So DJ Jones and Randy Gregory? Did Paton just blow his entire cap space wad on 2 players?
Were those good moves at least? Not really familiar with either guy.
I'll say.I haven't followed RG much of late but the man has talent in spades. People keep talking about his "baggage" but...dude got busted for smoking weed. All in all, Denver is the perfect destination for him.
I don't know anything about Jones.
Obviously his career hasn't ended over it. Broncos basically are on the hook for 2 years with him ($28m guaranteed) and he's kept himself out of trouble now for last couple years. Not a home run signing, but at least it takes away the risk of signing Von and finding out next season he's cooked after a nice playoff run. He's elite at one skill, a skill that happens to be in very high demand. His ability to stay on the field all 3 downs and in all situations is a fair question.Love the Jones signing.
Hate the Gregory signing. Don't know why we're taking such a big risk on an injury prone, hot head that can't stop using banned substances. I know it's only marijuana, but as long as it's a banned substance in the NFL guys need to show control. I don't understand how guys can throw their whole careers away for it.

Jones seems a safer bet but keep in mind run stuffing on D is very low on the priority list of modern NFL defenses and paying top of the market for a nose tackle who does that primarily is a bit of a risk. Not questioning the player or his skills, just wondering if this is the best allocation of cap they could come up with.
Is it the expectation that we are signing Von? His social accounts were pretty foretelling.

I agree 100% with Klis on this - while run stuffing isn't the #1 priority, you also can't let teams just walk all over you like the Broncos did last year.
Because they’re the Rockies and that’s what the Rockies do.Why did the Rockies exile Arenado only to spend that sort of money on Bryant?

That is insane at his age. Talk about fantasy with the 6 years part. Von knows the guaranteed amount is what he's going to get and he can do the math on how many years that buys of him in Buffalo.I love Von but Jesus Christ that contract
Bryant will find out soon enough he just made a huge, huge mistake. Ian Desmond literally opted out of the final two years of a deal and left tens of millions on the table because his experience in Colorado was so utterly miserable.
He didn't make it any better for himself by being a big pile of crap at the plate. That was an albatross deal that the Rockies are surely thankful they got out of paying at the end. Where the Rockies really screwed themselves is paying high dollars for bullpen pieces that sucked in the end. They seemed to have learned you can't pay any kind of pitcher big money unless he's already proven he can handle the environment. Giving money to a position player makes so much more sense, just don't spend it on weird ideas like oh we can turn Desmond into a multi-position weapon when he never was producing much before.
If Bryant comes in and crushes it as he should for at least the first 3-4 years I don't see either side being unhappy with the outcome. He knows and acts like he isn't coming in as the savior, the one piece of the puzzle they need. They need the pitching staff to keep delivering on the promise they have showed and they need to find a way to get a few more young pieces into the major league lineup. This isn't as bad a roster as some want it to be, but its clear management and ownership have no interest in doing a tear down so some fans should stop being disappointed at moves that don't go down that path.
CSU stinks. what a terrible second half of just heaving three balls that were mainly air balls.
