So DJ Jones and Randy Gregory? Did Paton just blow his entire cap space wad on 2 players?

Were those good moves at least? Not really familiar with either guy.

I haven't followed RG much of late but the man has talent in spades. People keep talking about his "baggage" but...dude got busted for smoking weed. All in all, Denver is the perfect destination for him.

I don't know anything about Jones.

Jones is a run stuffer expert. Just needs to stay on the field. Everything I’ve heard about Jones has been extremely positive. Also heard Jones is a standup dude on and off the field.

I’m not sold on the Gregory signing. he just needs to stay on the field too but all of his missed time is usually self-inflicted.

Love the Jones signing.

Hate the Gregory signing. Don't know why we're taking such a big risk on an injury prone, hot head that can't stop using banned substances. I know it's only marijuana, but as long as it's a banned substance in the NFL guys need to show control. I don't understand how guys can throw their whole careers away for it.

Obviously his career hasn't ended over it. Broncos basically are on the hook for 2 years with him ($28m guaranteed) and he's kept himself out of trouble now for last couple years. Not a home run signing, but at least it takes away the risk of signing Von and finding out next season he's cooked after a nice playoff run. He's elite at one skill, a skill that happens to be in very high demand. His ability to stay on the field all 3 downs and in all situations is a fair question.

Jones seems a safer bet but keep in mind run stuffing on D is very low on the priority list of modern NFL defenses and paying top of the market for a nose tackle who does that primarily is a bit of a risk. Not questioning the player or his skills, just wondering if this is the best allocation of cap they could come up with.

Is it the expectation that we are signing Von? His social accounts were pretty foretelling.

Not anymore. He wanted to come, but he's got enough of a market to get at least $10m for the next year and Broncos are down to minimal space. I think Paton realized he wanted a solution for a few years, not just one since he doesn't have draft capital to pick an elite rusher.

I agree 100% with Klis on this - while run stuffing isn't the #1 priority, you also can't let teams just walk all over you like the Broncos did last year.

They had Purcell and never used him much. The coaches brought that on themselves. Also Von was a great run stopper in his prime, the run defense definitely took a step down once he was gone. I don't know if he still has much to give in that space but it certainly would have been a good justification to sign Von instead of Gregory when you also include his ability to teach and lead that unit. In the end this was a Paton decision and most of his decisions have been good so far so I'll roll with his moves.

Why did the Rockies exile Arenado only to spend that sort of money on Bryant?
Because they’re the Rockies and that’s what the Rockies do.

Definitely makes no sense. I'm surprised Bryant landed there, after all the rumors surrounding teams like LAA, Philly, and Seattle. Were the offers that much lower that Colorado was the best fit?

I wanted the Tigers to land Bryant - he would've been a perfect fit. They'll probably sign Brett Gardner's corpse instead. :help:

Bryant will find out soon enough he just made a huge, huge mistake. Ian Desmond literally opted out of the final two years of a deal and left tens of millions on the table because his experience in Colorado was so utterly miserable.

I love Von but Jesus Christ that contract
That is insane at his age. Talk about fantasy with the 6 years part. Von knows the guaranteed amount is what he's going to get and he can do the math on how many years that buys of him in Buffalo.

He didn't make it any better for himself by being a big pile of crap at the plate. That was an albatross deal that the Rockies are surely thankful they got out of paying at the end. Where the Rockies really screwed themselves is paying high dollars for bullpen pieces that sucked in the end. They seemed to have learned you can't pay any kind of pitcher big money unless he's already proven he can handle the environment. Giving money to a position player makes so much more sense, just don't spend it on weird ideas like oh we can turn Desmond into a multi-position weapon when he never was producing much before.

If Bryant comes in and crushes it as he should for at least the first 3-4 years I don't see either side being unhappy with the outcome. He knows and acts like he isn't coming in as the savior, the one piece of the puzzle they need. They need the pitching staff to keep delivering on the promise they have showed and they need to find a way to get a few more young pieces into the major league lineup. This isn't as bad a roster as some want it to be, but its clear management and ownership have no interest in doing a tear down so some fans should stop being disappointed at moves that don't go down that path.

I certainly hope there is a puzzle of some kind, some kind of plan. Schmidt being the GM gives me hope--he ran about the only part of the Rox organization outside of the party deck that was consistently successful, their drafting/development.

Unfortunately I just can't see a scenario where Monfort doesn't step in somehow and f***s it all up, like a 2-year-old when they see a neatly stacked set of blocks.

CSU stinks. what a terrible second half of just heaving three balls that were mainly air balls.

I thought they were supposed to be good. They were supposed to be a 5 seed in the tournament based on what people were saying online.

Oh well...I can't even bring myself to care about March Madness these days. I understand why it appeals to people, just not my cup of tea anymore.

Nuggets bench once again plays dominant the other night. Turns out the Nuggets didn't really need to make a big splash at the deadline, snagging Boogie Cousins could not have been a more savvy acquisition.

Hopefully Blue Arrow makes it back into the lineup soon.

CSU had their best team in a long time. Last time they made the tournament was 2013.

They were physically outmatched despite their great efforts. Pretty much they had to try as hard as they could on every single possession to defend as a team and that lead to them getting tired. When you are tired in basketball, you cannot shoot.

Can't shoot, can't win.
