Good lord are the Sox pathetic.

And once again Stone and JB and everyone else saying things like “tough home stand”…..LOL. The home stand? What about the entirety of the last 2 seasons? What about the (attempted)rebuild of the franchise in general?

My fellow Sox fans we picked the wrong franchise to root for. We really did. Cubs are without question the better organization, which says a lot because it’s not like they’re known for being successful or anything lol(no offense cubs fans, just the truth). But man….at least they’re relevant. At least they go all-in.

The Cubs & the Sox both took SS.

And of course the Sox drafted a SS who has questionable future at SS

Gonzalez has the bat-to-ball skills and control of the strike zone to be at least a solid hitter, and he has been more consistent in 2023 after hunting home runs too much as a sophomore. With his strength, bat speed and the leverage in his left-handed stroke, he has 25-homer potential. He does a nice job of using the entire field, with most of his over-the-fence power going to his pull side.

While Gonzalez regularly displays below-average speed out of the batter's box, he may be quick enough to stay at shortstop. His instincts and rhythm help his cause at short, where he covers ground with long strides and has solid arm strength. Some evaluators wonder if he'll have to shift to third base or second base, but if so he'd be able to profile as a quality regular at either position.

Hopefully a big piece of our future core.

Sox should've went with a prep bat. They will likely need another rebuild anyways but I much rather them think more longterm than trying to put a bandaid on a quick fix with a guy with questionable speed (especially with the shift being gone now. You need range). Hopefully this means Hahn and company are long gone soon.

He doesn't have 3B power.
Lol wat?

When is a power grade of 55 not "3B power"? You do know 60 grade power guys are few and far between, yes?

Not even mentioning the White Sox already have one of the better SS prospects in the minors already in Montgomery.

Ragging on the White Sox is a damn meme already, but drafting a top ten prospect in the draft who fell to them isn't one of them.

I seriously think many here have no clue how the mlb draft works. The Sox were looking to under slot but had a big time talent fall into their laps.

Good lord.....

Gonzalez is a great pick for the White Sox. Maybe not a massive ceiling but a pretty high floor and does everything well. I think he can stay at SS too. Arm also isn't the question, its the foot speed. He's been a reliable defender his whole career.

MLB draft is a very unique draft compared to other leagues. Bonus pool makes it an entire process rather than just BPA at every pick. HS Baseball Coach was an MLB scout and head coach of the best travel ball team in the country. Learned a lot about the draft as he was my Health class teacher and lunch was right after. We would sit in there for 2 hours every single day and just watch film and talk about the draft. He coached Baez, Jose Fernandez, Lindor, Jesse Winker, Vogelbach all on the same team.

Power grade of 55 is the tier just above league average.

Good lord…

White Sox first 5 picks a guy. Value Proposition / And rating vs. Consensus ranking :

Sox actual pick value:

Picked at #15 #51#84#116 and #152
= 418/5 = 83.6 value proposition per Sox opportunity...

However as ranked by MLB pre-draft these picks were rated #18 #102 #108 #133and #225..

= 586/5= 117.2 ..

Opportunity Value - Ratings Value
= 83.6 -117.2 = negative 33.6

So Sox scouts think they are smarter than consensus ...Drafting so negative to co senses!

By tge 6th puck they were already drafting an unranked player!

Yup ...so much smarter than the consensus MLB used to rank talent.

This is why Sox farm stinks in depth...Tgey are just lucky if someone either take actualky surprises beyond what consensus exoected.

To be fair the first pick was a + 3 vs. Consesus ank...but the next 4 were way off consensus ranking.

But still hope folks...in the 7th round White Sox got a great value steal according to ratings expectation...They got a a guy ranked #71 at Pick #229!!!
Plus he is local from Downer's Grove! How did George Wolkow slip so far ?

Check his astrological chart...maybe tgey plucked a star..or hot lucky!

Like TLEH said, you don't just take BPA. The entire draft is a puzzle, you take guys under-slot early so you can afford to pay a 3rd round value in the 7th.
