Here's a fun little game. Three teams across the top, three teams down the side, fill in a player that played for both teams where they meet.

The Oilers were in it today, so that was pretty easy, but I couldn't think of anyone who played for Seattle and Detroit.

I learned today that Tyler Myers won the Calder.

Today was another good one.

I found out I really don't care about the Canucks. Couldn't get a single one for their row.

I've started to try to come up with the most obscure answer possible for easy ones. I think I won at my game with a solid 0.3% on Bruins+Islanders with Felix Potvin.

I was really proud of myself with Ziggy Palffy (NYI/PIT) at 6% and Curtis Lazar (VAN/BOS) at 5%.

We're looking for some new GMs to join us over on the GM Games forum.

We have a new game that is taking sign-ups now, for anyone who wants to make the offseason go by a bit quicker.

Happy to discuss!

Well after all that rain and not hot temps as expected mega mosquito hatches. River and creek walks are nasty and my back yard in some places is a big bite zone.

(And god I hate having to put on bi\ug dope....blech)

They are out in full force now and this is a particularly nasty batch.

Can anyone recommend a neighboorhood in Edmonton or surrounding area that's methhead free? Thanks.
Most of the city.

I live on the north side (castledowns area). Great neighbours, cheaper housing, everyone minds their own business but is still pleasant enough. A great mix of diverse beliefs, backgrounds, ages, and interests. It's not exciting to live up here, but we feel totally safe, can afford to all kinds of things that we want to do.

I’d say you’re usually pretty good in more suburban areas as problematic portions of the population tend to stick to high traffic areas, commercial areas, near transit and don’t tend to wander too far into suburbia as there isn’t much there for them.

On the other hand it seems like crime such as theft is up big time in suburban areas and even violent crime is rising at a staggering level. I’m pretty sure the EPS just released a report saying gun violence in the city is up 133%. A good friend of mine lives in a very nice part of the west end and just last week there was a shooting in broad daylight where two guys chased and fired at a guy and his wife walking with their baby.

I’d say you’d probably have better luck in surrounding communities but it’s becoming a problem everywhere really.

This past Sunday, a man was murdered by a random attacker. How many random attacks have occurred in this city over the last year? It is absolute bullshit that we cannot legally protect ourselves from animal thugs. Not to mention criminals evading sentences for their crimes; and then ending back on the streets to repeat. I wasn't surprised when the city, last year, expressed interest in 'legalizing small amounts of drugs' i.e, meth and heroin. City life is no longer desirable when you aren't legally allowed to protect yourself from criminals who fear zero consequences for their actions, and in some cities (Vancouver), are encouraged to continue abusing drugs.

There are going to be a lot more attacks, I can tell you, as more and more people out there chose to take dangerous drugs regardless of what they might turn them into, or do to them.

I hear you. Someone posted a link to an article about a person being shot with a crossbow in the Whyte Ave area. Horrifying in itself, but then I scrolled down to the bottom of the article and saw links to other serious acts of crime in the Edmonton area. I saw articles reporting on not one, but two instances of a body being found in a burned out vehicle. WTF? An article on some disgusting creeps involved in sex trafficking minors and, of course, the drug trade. And that was on top of the regular stabbings and robberies. Granted some of those articles were a bit older but I sat there for about fifteen minutes, and it was article after article on just how unsafe life is in Alberta these days. It was shocking. As someone who grew up in Alberta but hasn’t lived there in a long time (still have family in the area and visit fairly often) it made me feel sad for law abiding citizens who are just trying to get on with their lives as best they can.

I realize that a lot of the worst of it, the murders and the like, involves criminal on criminal violence, reported as ‘targeted attacks’, but what an unpleasant environment. Maybe I’m misremembering, but I don’t recall living with that level or incidence of violence, carried out with such a complete disregard for fellow citizens. Humans even. And people keep saying society is progressing. Sure doesn’t seem that way to me. Maybe we are focusing on the wrong things?

Literally as you guys discussed this, my area in the southeast has had a road closed with multiple cop cars, a helicopter circling around and even one of those SWAT type vehicles.

Shit is popping off man
