This past Sunday, a man was murdered by a random attacker. How many random attacks have occurred in this city over the last year? It is absolute bullshit that we cannot legally protect ourselves from animal thugs. Not to mention criminals evading sentences for their crimes; and then ending back on the streets to repeat. I wasn't surprised when the city, last year, expressed interest in 'legalizing small amounts of drugs' i.e, meth and heroin. City life is no longer desirable when you aren't legally allowed to protect yourself from criminals who fear zero consequences for their actions, and in some cities (Vancouver), are encouraged to continue abusing drugs.

A woman was murdered by a random attacker in front of her daughter on their way to school about 6 or 8 weeks ago too. These tv shows like "The Walking Dead" and "The Last of Us" are becoming life imitating art with the drug crisis and the hugs and cookies approach to crime. Yet, the answers from those who sit high in the ivory tower with a security detail? "Let's legalize this shit some more and get even softer on crime. Afterall, we can't infringe on a criminal's Charter rights by overcrowding prisons!".

From the article on Global about this random attack:

"A search of Alberta court records shows that Wheeler has an extensive history of assault, robbery and use of excessive force."

Sounds like another guy who should have been behind bars instead of out on the streets.

There are going to be a lot more attacks, I can tell you, as more and more people out there chose to take dangerous drugs regardless of what they might turn them into, or do to them.
Unfortunately I think you’re right and it’s not just in Alberta, crime and in particular violent crime has seen a steep rise across the country. But I guess that’s what you get when the public safety minister doesn’t even know what’s going on in his own ministry.

Well after all that rain and not hot temps as expected mega mosquito hatches. River and creek walks are nasty and my back yard in some places is a big bite zone.

(And god I hate having to put on bi\ug dope....blech)
Can thank the City for going green and drastically cutting their budget with regards to spraying as well.
Man raspberries ripen fast. I have to be picking every second day at the least to not waste any.
As a kid I use to love when they started to ripen. Leaving in an old neighborhood we had a ton of bushes in the back lane. Most of the people had no issue with us "raiding" their bushes. Just as long as we didn't do damage and we let them pick what they needed first. Some even posted signs "feel free to pick".

There are so many attacks you don't hear about either. My buddy was showing me an attack on the neighbors app not far from his place where a guy got slashed with a machete unloading groceries at 5pm. Couple weeks later there was a murder not far away.

There really are no safe areas and once the LRT's open up it just spreads. Get so many of these junkies getting on the train to find new areas to do their small crimes and then eventually it just leads to violence.

Literally as you guys discussed this, my area in the southeast has had a road closed with multiple cop cars, a helicopter circling around and even one of those SWAT type vehicles.

Shit is popping off man
The helicopter is circling around in Southeast nearly every evening. Its been as late as 3am, flying in circles over us. Its often just doing in the air hours. Not responding to anything in particular. Responding to a particular event would involved going in a direction. Not doing patrol swoops.

This wasn't a normal occurrence. EPS has yet to release any information though

Rural life isn't a lot better when large groups can just come on your property for no reason and you can't even defend yourself in a way that might involve defensive harm and police or RCMP response is hours, days away to non existent.

Seems almost like whatever areas Meth, Opioids etc infect the population its destroyed. Generationally Meth and LSD and other chemicals did extreme harm to another generation in the 60's, one that similarly felt they could ingest anything and with no consequences and just see rainbows and unicorns. 50yrs later the same and worse problems exist and once again involving generations that feel living better chemically is a thing.

Dealing of any of these substances should be treated as acts of terrorism. That states want to engage in pushing drugs is beyond words.

Perp will be back at home within the week. For the neighbors to deal with.

Our block over last 5years we've had multiple several car police responses and guns drawn by officers. We've had multiple stay in house advisories during these incidents of which its never known what the risk/infraction/occurrence ever was. Problems so endemic right now they are everywhere. Meth city is never a good place. Meth/Opiates city somehow manages to be worse.

A couple months ago I was waiting for a bus around 7 am at 107 st and Jasper avenue. A homeless guy was passed out inside the bus shelter. Just outside the shelter he had left his over loaded shopping cart on the sidewalk. Another homeless guy walked up and started rooting through the cart looking for valuables, I guess. After a few minutes he pulls this big ass machete out of the cart and lifts it up over his head and starts walking down Jasper avenue. Those few seconds it took for him to walk past me and keep going were terrifying. Those guys are so messed up and living in a completely different reality than the rest of us and you can never be sure how they’ll react to you. They don’t safely mix with the rest of society and we’re starting to see the consequences of that now. Shame on any politician that thinks the answer is anything other than treating drug use as a criminal act.

Not just in Alberta, it's screwed here too. The criminals have more rights than law abiding and hard working citizens. This world is becoming ass backwards.

Tons of homelessness, drug abuse and catch and release.
Going to sound stupid, but I think to some degree Hawaii Five O opened some eyes to Hawaii not just being a paradise.

I'm not talking about the crazy daily storylines of massive organized crime going down, but they did show you the parts tourists don't see.

Then there is the wonder to why downtown companies are having more and more people not want to work in the office anymore.

Bad enough to get to and from work, but then everywhere you go is just a shit show.

It's sad because the reality some of those people are living is scary. They don't even know what they are doing. Yet it is really tough to get those people help.

But...but....I thought building a hockey rink downtown would immediately eradicate all social problems and renew the area!

So, at a Burger King in Thailand they now have the 'real cheeseburger' 20 slices of cheese, no burger, no sauces no pickles, just cheese and bun.

Indeed. Yet in Edmonton we had a top bureaucrat saying that Edmontonians need to get over their prejudice and live and let live along the homeless. That we need to be looking at them differently (with that machete)...

Heres an interesting article.

Look at the rundown. All these crimes happening on LRT or ETS property, on city property. Been saying this for years and its because the city allows city property to be turf for drug users and criminal elements. Even the highly funded DT library or Churchill square.

This is interesting too. I mean this was a bad day all day but the usual sorts were defending the nuts policy of handing out syringes in COE spaces.

I mean what possible bad thing could happen.. Not to mention that the syringes that were being handed out are the possible mechanisms of harm and transmission and sharpy risk to all other innocent bystanders that may step on one or say children that don't know the objects are harmful. We all know these get discarded anywhere by the users. Often on benches. Anywhere they were used and including on buses.

And the nicer weather locations are really seeing an increase. California leads the country in homelessness.

Imagine going to an AA meeting, and the organizers supplying you with booze so you"don't rob or steal to get your booze fix."

I wonder how long you’d need to put that in the microwave to melt that cheese just right. If you over did it you’d wreck it.

We wouldn’t want to hurt his feelings by incarcerating him. Even Paul Bernardo gets out of max security in JTs world. Except JT and Mendocino just don’t know it happened (or own up to knowing before the fact ).

Philip Rivers (former NFL QB) is 41 and his wife is knocked up for the 10th time. Literally.

He's 41, that's an average of a kid bring born every two years. Vaginas are not supposed to be a clown car.
