I don't follow the Cards, or baseball much if at all. So take this with a huge grain of salt. I did see an article a week or two back that was talking about how bad the Card's pitching is. It suggested part of the problem may be Contrearas. Apparently he isn't good at calling a game, ie which pitches to throw and where. The evidence was the fact that the Cards pitching has gotten worse while the Cubs pitching has gotten better. Beyond what any change in pitching personnel should cause.

Like I said, take it with a grain of salt. But it appears the Cards think its at least worth trying to get someone else calling the game, while still getting some value out of that contract with his bat,
yet our pitching staff still looks like crap with Knizner behind the plate…I guess Wilson has been calling pitches from the dugout.

how is Contreras to blame when
a) the pitchers are not shaking him off if it is not the pitch they want and
b) instead of hitting the location where his glove is the ball goes straight down the middle, I mean, we can see where his glove is set up and the balls that are being smoked come nowhere near the location he set

At this point any pitcher complaining about a catcher's calls needs to shut up. Every pitcher in baseball can call their own game with the current tech. If they don't like the game Contreras is calling then learn to use Pitchcomm and call your own damn game.

Also - should we trade Goldschmidt at the TDL? I'm starting to lean towards yes.

I mean, we're last in the entire NL - and we have no pitching prospects to speak of. Liberatore looks good at Triple - A, but that's what we said last year and he got blown up when he arrived in the Show.

Goldy is amazing, I don't -want- to trade him....but at this point he's the reigning MVP and he's having another amazing start to the season - there's no time like the present to maximize on his value.

Libby looks much better than last year. His FB has an added a couple mph too. We also have Graceffo, Tink, McGreevy and Hjerpe too.

I would trade pretty much anybody on the roster right now excluding prospects, Gorman and Donovan. That includes Goldy, Arenado, Monty and Flaherty.

At this juncture I'd take just about any value back for Flaherty. I have no clue if it's all the injuries or he just went on a heater and wasn't really that guy back in 2021....but he hasn't shown he's even a middle rotation guy over the last three plus years.

2019 he was amazing, 2021 he was very good, and every other season he’s been bad, terrible, or injured. I don’t know. I don’t want to just toss him away because we have absolutely no pitching, but he’s got to get it going. Can’t keep relying on just a year or two.

Has Flaherty ever made any comments that would give fans the notion he wants to play in LA? Serious question.
What has he ever said that would indicate he has enjoyed his time here? He had a nice bond with Gibby. That's about it. He's obviously annoyed with the media, not that I can necessarily fault any athlete for that. But he's playing in a town that eats, sleeps and breathes baseball. I see no benefit in holding out for a miniscule return when they finally decide to pull the trigger on moving him. If we're nowhere near even sniffing a wild card come June it's time to clean house.

So there's never been anything specific that has linked him to LA or his desire to play for LA? You said that he's been having "wet dreams" about playing in LA, when there is zero proof of that aside from endless fan speculation.

I don't blame him for being upset or annoyed. His team (and himself) are struggling, and he has to answer ridiculous repeat questions from Goold every night. Goold is one of the most pretentious sports writers I've seen when you look at his interactions with fans and players.

Flaherty has some of the most talent among any of the starters this team currently employs. Trading him at this point would only make the team worse.

I don't blame the guy for being annoyed either.. Nothing good has happened for him in his career since he's been here, aside from 2019. I'm not blaming him for getting injured. In fact, I'm seeing this situation through his eyes. The idea of a fresh start is probably on his mind throughout his daily life. I don't need to hear the guy say anything. His body language speaks volumes..
Do you honestly believe if someone asked him, off the record if he wants to continue his career in St. Louis that he would reply with an emphatic "YES"?

I hate to break it to the fans in denial, but the Cardinals are no longer the "model" organization in baseball.. In fact, I'd say it's the opposite. From reports of conflating pitching philosophies within the farm, the ridiculous decision to keep Walker on the opening day roster only to send him down 2 weeks later.. And now Contreras crying about "not being wanted"

Sorry for the rant, but you asked me for verbal proof, which I readily admit I don't have. What I do have is the capacity for observation and deduction. So I ask you, why would anyone want to play for this organization with the way it is currently ran and the palpable toxicity permeating within it?? I'm no professional athlete, though, I used to play one when I was 10, but I would think having a general awareness of these things plays a role in wanting to stick around.

IIRC, Flaherty chose to not sign an extension and wants to go to arbitration. I am pretty sure this is basis for Cards’ fans view that he wants out.

I may be off on some of this, but it’s something like that.
