Also look at Pedersen and Murphy. Cards need a 4th starter Badly. And if they can get a better Catcher than Kiz and a decent 4th outfielder it would be great.

I've had my eye on Murphy as he makes sense both now and future. Herrera proved he isn't ready, Yadi's last year and Kiz is a quality backup. OH, and he can hit.

I’m very frustrated that the Cards didn’t do much, but at the same time I’d rather not waste big time prospects on a rental in a dead season. Either acquire someone who will help for a few years or sit pat until the off-season. Cards would have to get DeGrom and Scherzer to have any shot of beating the best teams in the NL. We should still be able to push for the division with such an easy schedule, but I can’t see the Cards beating any team currently in the playoffs, including the Brewers. Mediocrity sucks and is boring and now both of my teams are stuck in it for the foreseeable future. Cards have a way out with their prospect pool and young talent on the team. Blues are pretty dicked lol.

EDIT:Never mind. Traded the best defensive center fielder in baseball for a painfully mediocre starting pitcher with only one year left of team control. Get Mozeliak the f*** out of there. Holy shit. What a panic move and an absolutely dreadful one at that. Jordan f***ing Montgomery. Better be a good prospect coming back too but I highly doubt it. We’ll probably toss in Burleson or something for the f*** of it.

Better be career threatening or something to accept this garbage return. Had the opportunity to trade him for Zach Wheeler over the summer but balked and then moved him for a replacement level starter six months later. Whatever magic the Cards front office had in the early to mid 2000s is completely gone. Every move they make outside of the painfully obvious ones are always awful. Always.

There’s absolutely no winning with Cardinals fans. They wanted pitching, Mo acquired two solid pitchers, and people hate him and the team even more now.

Bader is a career .246 hitter with little power. He’s not good and trading him for a pitcher is great news.

League average hitter, elite speed, and the best defensive center fielder in baseball. If you think Bader isn’t good you know absolutely nothing(though you using batting average to justify this awful take kinda days that anyway). Look at the Cards record when Bader plays in his career and when he doesn’t and get back to me. Montgomery would have to win a Cy Young to match his impact.

It was definitely rash for me to say he isn’t good. But he’s always been overrated for his charisma on the field and flashy plays. He’s nothing special offensively, and speed on the base paths isn’t enough to overtake his low walk rate.

Regardless, you have to give to get, and Montgomery is an upgrade over a number of the current cardinal starters.

Criticizing my knowledge of baseball is a bit out of line, but I guess that’s my point with all cardinals fans like you. They overvalue their players significantly more than really whatever comes back in trade.
