Thank god this will be over soon.

Soto is on track for a HoF career but we actually need to field a team around him. Giving up every elite position prospect we have under 25 would utterly gut us in a few years. It's not hard to imagine us needing a total tear-down if Goldy and Arenado age out of elite status and Soto leaves to chase a record bag after the next few years.

If we can get Soto and keep at least one of Wynn, Gorman, Carlson or Walker it still hurts but doesn't completely gut our supporting cast.

I can't wait for Cards fans to cry because we didn't give up Carlson, Walker, Gorman, Winn, and Liberatore for Soto so we have run an outfield of Dickerson-Nootbaar-Soto because O'Neilland Bader can't stay healthy, and then cry because our outfield sucks defensively.

Yeah, that would be quite ugly. Trading for Soto would give elite 2,3,4 hitters but obliterate the rest of lineup. I thought teams always talked about lengthening the lineup. Trading for Soto would do the opposite.

Shore up the pitching and win the division over a vulnerable Brewers team.

People just say he's generational and think screw it let's totally destroy our farm and MLB roster. If Bader and O'Neill were healthy, it would make it much easier to do this, but with them both injured trading our best healthy CF for a player who can only play the corners makes no sense

I don't think there is a trade, or multiple trades, that could be made today that would push the Cardinals over the top. We made our bed with our limp off-season. No point selling the farm this year. Sign some legit pitching talent next off season and then maybe use your prospects in a trade to make us actual contenders.

Everyone keeps talking about how the team getting Soto will get him for 3 playoff runs, but we aren't going far this post season even with Soto so it's really only 2 playoffs for us.

the problem isnt losing out on soto, its that Bowtie Boy constantly dumpster dives like a bum. he loves him some old bargain bin LHP every deadline and thats it

they should have gotten a legitimate DH in the offseason but dumpster dived for dickerson. they should have signed another SP and bullpen arms but once again dumpster dived and expected people like flahtery and hudson to not be trainwrecks.

bowtie boy should have been fired in 2016.

The Soto Episode is finally over. Going to San Diego. Time for 75% of Cardinals fans to melt down.

I gotta admit I haven't been following the Cards so closely this season, but when is the last time the Cards paid such a heavy price for any player? Much like the Blues and Army, it seems the Cardinals only make a big trade if they are getting a "good deal" and won't trade multiple top prospects for any player. It might be frustrating for fans, but it seems to be Mo's M.O.

You think it's Mozeliak or the owners not wanting to commit more money to the on field product?

last time the cards made a move at the deadline for a legitimate difference maker was scott rolen in 2002.

sure they have made moves that have worked out since then like the rasmus trade but they will always chose the dumpster dive route in the era of Bowtie Boy.

Package was definitely beatable, but I think Mo was negotiating with the idea that we’d only have him for 2.5 years. If he saw him as a long term piece I imagine he would’ve included Carlson as it would just be a direct upgrade on right field for the next decade+.

And Hosmer

That’s pretty much Gorman, Pallante, Walker, Winn, Meijia, and an expensive contract (although the Hosmer thing is a tad sketchy because he can refuse a trade to the Nats).

Would Soto be awesome to watch? Hells yes. But to sell the farm on a guy I’m in no way convinced isn’t heading to FA as soon as he can would make that price ridiculous unless every one of those prospects busted.

Yeah, I have never been a fan of "Bowtie boy." The Goldschmidt and Arenado deals seemed pretty good, but besides that he loves to scour the clearance rack rather than going for quality. Considering how well fans support the team, I think they deserve a bit more from him.

Probably both but don't forget that they PROMOTED Bowtie boy a few years ago for whatever reason.

the cardinal homers will always chirp back and say we make trades for people like ozuna, goldy, nado. yes thats true but they NEVER do anything mid-season to help the club down the stretch in any meaningful way. they always dumpster dive and hope something can chip in.

The entire front office takes their fanbase for granted and its honestly disgusting. They should have went after Scherzer in the offseason along with a legit DH bat. Think we would be in second place had those 2 things happened? AND THE BEST PART OF IT WOULD BE YOU DONT HAVE TO OVERPAY IN TRADES AT THE DEADLINE THEN.

But nope, gonna dumpster dive like a good lil Bowtie boy does. Oh you want Max Scherzer? well too bad, YOU GET TO WATCH JORDAN HICKS EAT UP STARTS AND BLOW HIS ARM OUT FOR THE 100TH TIME! OH YOU WANT A LEGITIMATE DH POWER BAT? HERES COREY DICKERSON, NOOTBAR AND PUJOLS! ENJOY!

and for the record, i dont mind the pujols signing since he still hits LHP well and it made sense. but f*** bowtie boy and penny pincher Dewitt for taking this fanbase for granted.

100% agreed. DeWallet refuses to shell out for the FA signings we badly need. It's going to be quite ugly when Waino retires or falls off.

So what you're saying is "Mo has got to go?" :sarcasm:

You make a good point that it's a lot easier to make moves in the summer rather than at the deadline, when it's easy for a team to say "well we tried our best but got outbid." They've had two chances to get Scherzer, who probably really wanted to come home to play. And while it's cool to see Albert come back, let's be honest...the main reason they did so is they needed a cheap RH bat on the bench.

I used to follow baseball a lot more closely and the Cards' front office's cheapskate ways pissed me off a lot and kind of turned me off baseball.

I haven't really liked any club bowtie boy has made since 2014. The 2015 club was a mess with the bats which is why the Cubs clowned us when nobody but Lackey could pitch. And they are also responsible for hiring Matheny who single handily cost us a World series spot in 2012, then proceed to choke another one away in 2013. TLR would have won all 3 of those.

The Cardinals live off their history way too much. They are basically MLBs version of the redwings now except at least they got a good GM.

Completely agree with bolded. The front office/ownership thinks merely competing to win the worst division in baseball is enough. They think that because Cardinals fans will stay heavily engaged for any team that isn't a basement dweller. Hell, I bet fans would fill the seats even if we had a bottom 5 team as long as it was part of a rebuild and there were intriguing prospects to watch. I don't like how this organization acts like a world series contender when they did so little to make them a contender last winter. They are coasting off of the good will bought from the first half of the last decade.

Agreed again on our off-season. We don't need to talk about trading so many good prospects and young MLBers if we would have made good moves in the off-season.
