I’m really liking this St. Louis prospect Matthew Kessel.
I wish Drury would see what they want for him?
Believe he will be an everyday steady d-man in the NHL one day.
Despite that last giveaway.
He’s 24 years old and not a prospect after his 3rd pro season this year, and I believe passed waivers.. 7th dman in my opinion and that is not a bad thing.

I'm not here to defend Potulny, to be clear. But Knoblauch didn't exactly inspire much confidence and the Wolf Pack were very close to closing out a third straight season without the playoffs before they kind of randomly caught fire the final month of the season and made it in. And a short time later he's doing a pretty good job coaching the Oilers.

I would imagine coaching in the AHL is difficult since for a lot of guys it's an "in between" league. You have prospects who are just there for a spell before moving onto the NHL and you're asked to help them take that next step. You have 4A guys who really don't want to be there but can still be very productive for you. You have guys who spent a significant amount of time in the NHL and who want to get back but probably don't have it anymore. Random ECHL-caliber guys who obviously don't belong. And everything in between. Seems like a tough task to balance all of that. Most places your job is to win, but in the AHL you're asked to win but also to develop players and keep other guys warm in case they're needed.

I agree that coaching at this level can be difficult. And some of the Pack's problems can be attributed to management such as not signing a puck moving defenseman. But I haven't been thrilled with some of Potulny's lineup choices. He seems to think that Jake Lyschyschen is a good offensive player. I hate seeing him with two offensive wings on his flanks. If you want to put him in a third or fourth line center defensive role that's fine. But you're not helping your young wings develop with Jake in the middle. I haven't liked all the playing time for Hillman. He's a perfectly fine AHL player. But he's never going to be more than that. I haven't seen value in having him play forward. It seems that the defensive pairs change every other game. He's finally been giving Roobroeck and Chmelar bigger roles but it's taken a while to get there and until recently he's had BMB stapled to the fourth line playing at left wing.

Ideally you want to see the team do well and develop players. But the team is well out of the playoffs And young player development (outside of Othmann and Berard who were on the brink of the NHL already) has been inconsistent. How much of that is Potulny is impossible for those of us on the outside to stay. But this season's play doesn't scream huge success.

And then there's all the roster disruption within the season between injuries and trades. Even if the team you start with is pretty good, that can go south very quickly.

Watched first 40 minutes, Domingue has been great, Hartford generates nothing.

Hopefully they can hold, headed to dinner so won’t see last 20.

I have a concern not about Sykora but the roster numbers game (for an undersized middle 6 forward). We already have Edstrom and Rempe on the bottom line. In top 6 it will be Lafreniere, Cuylle and Perrault (and if it’s not Zibanejad then there will be some expensive vet there). That leaves Sykora competing against Othmann, Berard, Schmelar and Laba etc for two remaining spots. I said it before - I don’t see both Berard and Sykora making it as Rangers.

how do you pronounce "schmelar?" this misspelling is telling.

When the numbers game becomes a problem, you make a trade to address a need. If they all work out it's a good problem to have.
