Might be this guy. Baseball has so many of these insider type accounts, some of them seem to have info and some don't.

Maybe? I saw it on FB. Could have been a random page using that as a basis.

It also made sense with the Cards pitching coming apart at the joints so I just passed it along without really looking into it

Until one of the big guys reports it I wouldn't buy it. All of these people claim to have sources but they don't. The national guys seemed more plugged in to what the cardinals are doing compared to the blues where not many leaks get out

adding soto doesnt help us become a contender at all. it helps you win the division but you wont go through the NL or world series by outslugging good teams.

when a 40 year old is your best and most consistent pitcher, you have pitching issues. this team needs a legit ACE that you can throw 3 times in a 7 game series.

The Soto thing feels way too much like Tkachuk. "Let's trade the farm and a very good player (Kyrou/Carlson) for a guy who while would be an upgrade, is a position of strength (forward/outfield) and continue ignore the glaring hole in out lineup (LHD/pitching) because he's a cornerstone player!"

Aaaaand Yadi just got smacked in the hand with a 94 MPH pitch on his catching hand and got pulled from his first rehab game.

Difference is Soto is a McDavid level player, not a Tkachuk level. Acquiring a generational talent on a HoF trajectory at 23 years old is a ridiculous opportunity. Cards aren't winning anything with their pitching no matter how good the lineup is. There isn't enough pitching help available at the deadline to make them a true contender. Making a move for Soto is about the future. He's a cornerstone player. That's not what the Cards are going to do though. They'll deal mid level prospects for a guy like Montas, he'll be fine, they'll lose in the Wild Card game again, and we'll rinse and repeat next year just hoping that the prospects somehow turn this team into a contender before we have to pay them.

Thank you - Soto isn't about this year. He's the guy we build around for the next decade plus. We aren't winning shit this year - for all the talk about how "this was our year," we still struggle against good pitching and our rotation is total ass.

I'm also tired of people talking about prospects like they matter. Prospects are magic beans. Alex Reyes was supposed to be the next Bob Gibson. Degrom was supposed to play shortstop. Now look where both of them are. Soto is doing things right now in the show that Walker and Wynn can only dream of doing.

Although, if there's anyone we should go after, it's Ohtani if he's truly available. Kinda solves two problems for us lol.

DeWitt is in Washington DC. So maybe Soto is in the plans. Hopefully they can keep Carlson.
Maybe, but I don’t think it necessarily means that Soto is any more or less likely to be traded to the Cards. Think it’s mostly coincidence that the Cardinals happen to have a series in DC that leads right up to the TDL. I think Mo and Dewitt would be traveling to wherever the team was this weekend but who knows. While I remain highly skeptical the Cardinals would actually trade for Soto it would certainly be interesting. They have to do something, and while I bet that is trading for an aggressively average vet starter, maybe they go wild.

Thus, an argument can be made that now is the time to strike for Soto, who is 23, one of the best hitters in the sport and under club control for three pennant races. For all the Cardinals’ talk of staying responsible and disciplined, their 2022 season is more vital than most. This is the last year for Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina and possibly Adam Wainwright. Paul Goldschmidt is having an MVP-type season, and Nolan Arenado also might finish in the top five, then opt out of his contract.
