The St. Louis Cardinals, who have a bevy of highly regarded young players, are viewed by rivals as a potential front-runner to land superstar Juan Soto.

The Mets and Yankees are among at least a half-dozen teams believed to have checked in. But there is no early sense that either New York team is at the forefront of talks. A few suitors have been told the Nats are focusing on one or two teams at the moment, and some believe the Cardinals are in the group getting early attention. The Mariners are yet another team seen early as having a chance in this derby.

Nats people are declining comment for now, though one NL executive said about the Cardinals’ chances here: “Good farm system.”

The Nats are an organization that relies heavily on scouting, and there’s word they like a lot of the Cardinals’ young players and prospects. The Cardinals line up for what the Nationals want — not just prospects, but young, controllable players already in the majors. Their top young major leaguers include outfielders Dylan Carlson, Harrison Bader and Tyler O’Neill, plus infielders Nolan Gorman and Brendan Donovan. Third baseman Jordan Walker, shortstop Masyn Winn and pitcher Matt Liberatore are among the best prospects in the sport.

The Cardinals have the kind of quality pieces to offer that they would not have to take back a “bad” contract. There are rival teams that believe the Nationals would also like to off-load the contract of Patrick Corbin as part of a deal. Corbin, who is owed $59 million for 2023-24, has a 5.66 ERA in 62 starts since the beginning of the 2020 season.

Soto’s 2022 salary is $17.1 million, and that alone wouldn’t discourage any interested team.

In addition to the Cardinals and the two New York teams, the Dodgers, Padres, Giants and Mariners are among other teams thought to be showing interest. The Post first reported the interest of the two New York teams. Bob Nightengale of USA Today first reported many of the other teams, and suggested a couple days ago they were all due to make bids.

I feel like this is a thing that's going to be willed into existence. IMO Soto is worth whatever you throw at him. You simply don't get HOF-track players entering their prime in a trade. Sure, he may not be here past three years, but we've shown we can rescucitate cheap starters the past few years to plug those holes. Goldy-Soto-Arenado is the most insane threesome in baseball, will put a ton of butts in seats and will keep up capable of affording pitching upgrades.

I dunno. Imagine making the World Series against the Blue Jays and having to go potentially four games without your best two hitters because they "did their own research" by googling sketchy links and ignoring the broad consensus of the scientific community.

Their body, their choice, but you can still call out idiocy when and where you see it.

Enjoy your SADS.

Matz out for the season. When will Mo learn to stop dumpster diving for these starting pitchers.
Eh, Matz was good last season. And an MCL tear can happen to the greatest of pitchers. Definitely wouldn't be blaming Mo on a freak accident injury. Now, Blaming him for not actually shoring up the starting pitchers is definitely a valid gripe tho.

Matz did have a 3.95 FIP, so his ERA is a bit unlucky, and at least his injury isn't a shoulder or elbow.

Ironic given that you’re the one who’s all sad about this.
Now now, it is perfectly normal for young adults to just randomly die or be diagnosed with severe heart conditions out of nowhere.
Please, feel free to show a scientific peer reviewed study that shows an increased risk of heart conditions among young adults who are vaccinated together that exceeds the risk of heart and other long term medical conditions in unvaccinated young adults who contract COVID. Please make sure it’s a causation not correlation. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to listen to the overwhelming majority of the scientific and medical community instead of TheDizee, who is best known for claiming to be correct in the face of all evidence

It's actually sudden arrhythmic death syndrome, but I was making a joke about how upset you're getting about this.
he is not upset at all, you are the one crying and derailing the thread about someones choice to take a leaky "vaccine" or not. you have no need to worry, your vaccine and 30 boosters will protect you from the big bad covid boogieman.

goldschmidt and arenado are my fav players on the team now. think i will buy a goldy jersey and a arenado one soon.

I take it you don't have one of those studies.

But congrats on making vaccines your whole personality!

It was about baseball and the potential detrimental effects of two of the Cardinals' best players ignoring science and the ensuing competitive disadvantage they're causing until you and Xerloris decided to go all anti-vax.

Contact you on twitter? No thanks.

I'm not the one that decided to cry about someone making their own medical decisions. I'm not sure if you're the one that started it or not but the fact remains that it's good that they have the balls to make their own choices and not be bullied into anything.

I didn't cry. I called them idiots. If you guys are having trouble reading and interpreting the very basic English, both in words and concepts, contained in this thread, I can understand how science might be beyond you.

Just want to confirm. Talking about the sporting ramifications of not having Arenado and Goldschmidt is off topic in a thread about sports?

I will be very curious what those players do if Toronto reaches the WS. Missing some regular season games happens all the time for various reasons, but missing playoff games or WS games is a different animal.

its funny how you call us idiots yet you are worried about this somehow impacting a cardinals world series run LOL. yeah cause this team is totally gonna be in the world series. they couldnt even beat the cubs in a playoff series with this little league pitching.

anyways yes you 3 derailed the thread and took the original post of someone posting about the news of them being sat out for 2 games into a discussion about covid/vax/300boosters itself.

I don't think we should be calling anyone idiots over a vaccine. Especially one that had such a short time in testing.

We also don't know if any of these people or close family members have underlying medical conditions that prevent them from receiving these vaccines to include, but not limited to, compromised immune systems or allergies.

Also, it's really not any of our business what these pro athletes do with their body.

By then it'll be too late. I guess they can get one dose of J&J but they'd have to get it at least 14 days prior to entry into Canada.

It's been tested by millions of people over nearly 2 yeras.

Close family members wouldn't be affected by an RNA vaccine, regardless of any medical condition.

In the sense that I can't tell them what to do, sure. But I can find their choices to be dumb. Just like I can judge athletes for being dumb by taking illegal drugs or, for a Blues example, driving a golf cart recklessly and f***ing up their knee

I'm thinking AL teams approach their players once Toronto clinches or looks like they could clinch, and while there is still time for them to travel. For NL teams, there's a little more time, where they could make that decision closer to start of playoffs.
