looking forward to sat night , the place should be rocking with a virtual sellout. looking forward to seeing how some nhl time helps their games and gulls games are normally fun

The crowds were pretty small last year in the playoffs due to season seat holders package not including playoff tickets, plus group sales drop off dramatically. This year season seats are included in the first round, so that should help, but in the AHL a lot of times regular season crowds are bigger. Weird I know. The Gulls have a huge fan base and a lot of them come into CBBA and root for their team. Kind of like when Kings fans take over Honda Center. So come on out and support the team. Since tomorrow nights game is a weekend, traffic not nearly as bad, so no excuse if you live in the LA metro not to come on out and support the team. We could use it. If things go bad, it could potentially be the only home game in the playoffs.

Game One tonight down here in San Diego.

The regular-season head-to-head results are interesting -- both teams had IDENTICAL 6-4-1-1 records against each other head to head, so it's hard to say whether either team has an advantage over the other.

The home team is 4-5-2-1 in the season series, the road team is 8-3-0-1 - which the Reign may take as a positive sign... only time will tell!

Kase is back for the Gulls, who have also added LW Jack Kopacka on an ATO from OHL Sault Ste. Marie.

Reign leading the Gulls with a Brodzinski goal. Kempe with the Primary assist who had 3 Gulls around him. Like Augers' play, he keeps the play going forward, similar to Ryan Smith. Roy looks solid.

What a ****ing play by Kempe! Brodzinski finishes it! Regin win!!

Kempe took his man down in the corner, got the puck and fired a perfect pass to Brodzinski who tipped it past Enroth. All with 11 seconds left in a tied game! Reign win 3-2!!

We will be there , already have tickets and the rep who called me said there were only tickets if you bought pkg.s for next season but I have already reupped with the big club for my hockey dollars for better or worse they still are our kings, so had to get them from stubhub, would be happy to buy you a beer your insight has been much appreciated over the years

On a downer note. LaDue appears to be injured. He was scratched the last 2 games of the reg. season and didn't play tonight. The good news though with the AHL's wacky scheduling the Reign have 5 days off between games 2 and 3. Hopefully it isn't serious. Stothers won't say anything about it. Even the AHL the coaches won't tell the media nothin'. Haha

That was all from the work of Kempe.

And the appalling mental lapse of Wellinski. He's usually a better young defenseman, but last night, he and Thompson just didn't appear to make the step up from regular-season intensity and presence to post-season intensity and mental acuity. All three Reign goals came off of Gulls mistakes in their own zone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Reign didn't deserve the win - they played the better game. I'm just pointing out the weak spot in the Gulls that they managed to leverage to the win.

MacDermid was more collected in his return than he typically has been in games I've seen him play in the past - but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him return to froggy form tonight.

Welinski looked like "what the hell is this guy doing back here?"

Smart of Kempe to jump the forecheck like that, caught Welinski thinking and the Gulls forwards at a bad time.

Edit: LOL I can't stop listening. KEMPEEEEE OHH NOOOOOOOOO

Some fans had signs reading "KEMPE OH NOOOOO" tonight.

However, the Reign couldn't overcome two goals in 31 second early in the game by and fell 2-1, tying the series at one apiece.

That was funny. Even Craig Elsten put it out on twitter giving them kudos. I sent a message back to him for being a good sport. It's one that will go down for the ages.

As for the game, brand new pro Roy got caught again in transition, leading to a 2 on 1 and the game winner. He needs to be smarter on his reads and adjust to this level, a tough position to be in when new to the pro game. The goal against on the power play was a bad change while shorthanded. Not sure who made that mistake, but I believe it was LoVerde and MacDermid that left the ice leaving Lintuniemi and Schilling in a bad spot.

With LaDue out, it has tilted the ice in the Gulls favor. Good, tight playoff hockey from both sides. Both goalies played well. It was nice to see a huge crowd compared to last year's playoffs. Season seat holders getting the first round in the ticket package this season was obviously a big help. Good atmosphere, disappointing ending.

Enjoyed everything but the outcome , really good to see dads and their kids at the game that's how you grow the game and true fans , it seems at staples last few years a lot of bandwagoners that are their for the event or experience more than the game or the Kings but AEG does sell tons of merchandise.......Roy looked good but was trying the play a little too much but he should work that out in a year or so, funny I was talking to my son about him and he had just asked where he plays and commented hope it isn't defense as the gulls went the other way lol rookies

LaDue skated today. Love Stother's quote...he doesn't know if LaDue is injured.
LOL. OHH NOOOOOO!!!

The team skated for a bit longer than usual, roughly and hour and a half, which was a good amount of time on the ice for defenseman Paul LaDue, who has missed the first two games of the series against the Gulls. On Monday he skated in red.

“Yup,†head coach Mike Stothers said when asked if he was encouraged by LaDue’s progress. “He looked OK out there today so it was a long, tougher practice. So the fact that he stayed out there for the full hour and half that we were out there, that’s a great sign.â€

The coach has very much been tight-lipped on LaDue’s status which is status quo for playoff time — “I don’t even know if he’s injured,†Stothers said. Overall, the 24-year-old Kings prospect has missed four consecutive games, last playing on April 12 against Stockton in the first game he was eligible to play in after returning from the Kings.

What happened to Justin Auger this year?

Justin Auger really slumped this season, after 2 promising seasons in which he looked to be developing into a solid bottom-6 player with "something extra" (offensively).

His stats are way down from last season.

I know he got hurt somewhere around Feb-March.

Did he have other injuries earlier in the season?

Is he still seen as having solid potential?

His elegibility is up after 3 years in the AHL, so he can't be sent down next fall without being exposed to waivers. Would he be grabbed?

What's up with Mr. Auger?

Thanks for any responses.

Injury kind of derailed his progress, but he had limited upside anyway.

He was a 4th round pick for a reason.

He was always a long shot to make the Kings bottom six, he probably has no future in the NHL.
