Rumor has it the mid-term plan for the Barracuda is to expand Sharks Ice to a minor-pro size (say, 5k capacity), and move them there once that's complete. I haven't been keeping tabs on whether that has progressed or not. Personally, the nostalgist in me would like to see the Barracuda put into Fresno, to renew some old WCHL possibilities.

Would be cool to have that sort of crossover since Sharks Ice is one of the biggest programs around IIRC.

Your thought about moving to another city is the only way the AHL team will be financially successful. It will never work sharing the same building, it's not even a good idea in the same city. Teams need their own identity. Fresno, Portland, Salt Lake City, Reno, Seattle and Sacramento. Plenty of large markets available for the Sharks, Golden Knights and Canucks to their AHL franchises to.

It is POSSIBLE that the top three spots in the AHL Pacific might be locked in by the end of tonight. IF the Barracuda win in regulation AND the Reign take the Gulls game to OT, or if the Barracuda win in OT and the Reign win in OT/SO, the Barracuda would win the division, the Gulls would clinch the #2 spot, and the Reign would clinch the #3 spot.

Last I heard Wagner's season is over so he can join Ontario if they want to bring him up

You heard incorrectly. Wagner is on the WHL Regina Pats and it is quite possible they win the whole thing. They are in the 2nd round tied one game a piece. And quite frankly, we don't want to see Wagner come up anytime soon because that means the Gulls can bring up Sam Steel, who is Wagner's teammate on Regina, and a much better prospect than Wagner.

All true...Wagner has 6 playoff goals in 6 games. Glad to see he comes through in the playoffs.

The Reign are now locked into a first-round matchup against the Gulls formally -- home ice is still in doubt, but the Gulls are one point from locking that up. San Jose will play either Stockton or Bakersfield in the first round.

Ugh my mistake, must've been another prospect whose team was swept, can't remember who now

Despite winning last night in OT in Stockton, the Reign were locked into the #3 seed in the Pacific last night when the Gulls beat Bakersfield. The first round schedule for the Reign and Gulls is now set.

Round 1 schedule:

Game 1: Friday, 4/21 @San Diego
Game 2: Saturday, 4/22 @Ontario
Game 3: Friday, 4/28 @San Diego
Game 4: Monday, 5/1 @Ontario (if necessary)
Game 5: Tuesday, 5/2 @ San Diego (if necessary)

This weekend's home-and-home against the Gulls now becomes a somewhat bizarre two-game preview of the first round series, as neither game will matter to either team in the standings (unless MAYBE contributing to the home-ice calculations in the Conference Finals, should either team get that far). Just more opportunities to develop bad blood between the teams before the intensity amps up after the season ends. I'm just hoping for no significant injuries being sustained during those games.

I wish these games were televised.

You and me both. The last game was kind of quiet, and although both teams want to play hard, they are meaningless overall. Hopefully just well played hockey. Looks like Montour, Theodore and Kase staying up? Also, the Reign are missing all of their tough guys with injury. Not sure if they will be back in the line up or not.

That's the current situation - I'm not sure if that will alter between the end of the AHL season this weekend and the start of the playoffs next Friday, but San Diego fans aren't counting on any of them. The Gulls did get d-man Megna back from the Ducks in time for last night's game, and he made an obvious difference in team confidence. They also got forwards Sorenson and Abbott back from injuries, so weren't skating with as many rookies/amateurs/ECHL guys in last night's win over Bako. Still unclear whether Gortz and Carrick will be healthy in time for the playoff series, those are two more key (AHL) top-six-type forwards for the Gulls. Enroth is back in goal for San Diego, which is another steadying influence.

I now have double reasons to root for a quick Anaheim exit from the playoffs - first, because Anaheim, and second, because that would free up some of those players for my Gulls :)

With LA's style of play supposedly going towards getting faster, does Philippe Maillet have the skills to get into the conversation on the Kings?

I've seen him play in person once, and he does make things happen. Way too early to see if he would possibly get an NHL contract next year, and he is very small (which would be the most likely drawback). Seems like he is going to be a very good AHL player, and someone I hope the Reign hold onto next year.

I'd co-sign on this. He's listed at only 5' 9" which is small no matter what system you're in, and he's also 24. However, there's enough skill that he'll get a deal for next season if he keeps this play up, imo. He's been impresseive. He's sniped the game winner last night.

More humor from Coach Stothers:

Love it.

ETA: Just noticed that CTKingsFan posted the first tweet on another thread. :)

Hopefully I get to see Reddekopp live for the first time tonight. We could desperately use the help on the left side. With MacDermid out, Lintuniemi not exactly consistent, and Leslie and Sharpie are not very good. LoVerde, LaDue and Roy on the right side looks pretty good.
