Hopefully I get to see Reddekopp live for the first time tonight. We could desperately use the help on the left side. With MacDermid out, Lintuniemi not exactly consistent, and Leslie and Sharpie are not very good. LoVerde, LaDue and Roy on the right side looks pretty good.

Hey, Reg, can you elaborate on how Roy's looking so far?

Okay, saw a couple of the new guys last night.

Matt Luff-Did not play

Matt Roy-Second time I have seen him play. Very poised on the blue line, reminds me a bit of LaDue when he broke in, looks like he has been playing professionally for a while when it's not the case. Solid break out passes, decent skater, not a big man but solidly built. Looks like he has the kind of strong wrist shots that can get through from the point creating offense. Played in the 3v3 OT, which shows you the confidence Stuts has in him already. Got involved in a fight behind the play off of a Reign rush with former Monarchs bad boy Scott Sabourin, who bloodied him (I would assume the nose), but Roy didn't back down. Looked like a crime scene on the ice. Sabourin is considerably bigger than Roy and an experience fighter, so kudos to him for sticking up for himself. He came back 5 minutes into the next period and played the rest of the game. Roy did get beat one time off the rush by a very fast Gulls forward but no harm was done.

Chaz Reddekopp-NHL size frame, no doubt. Very steady game, wasn't trying to do too much, good skater, solid first pass out of the zone, didn't run around and chase, good positioning, so overall I was impressed. Not afraid to use his size in the crease. Couple of decisions needed some polish (line change, shooting without a lane), but I think he will be a good pro in this very small sample size.

I like both of these new guys already over Leslie (who I doubt gets a QO) and Sharipzyanov, so that reaffirms my faith we are back on the right track with some D prospects. Add Clague to the picture too, and Lintuniemi is starting to improve on both ends, but his game is still very hectic and scrambly at times.

PS: Zatkoff had a terrible game last night, after a very good game in Stockton. Reign should have won the game handily, Gulls didn't pressure much or consistently, not sure if they were resting regulars. Campbell and LaDue got the night off. Without Bissonette, Crescenzi and MacDermid (all injured), the Reign have no answer to Bickell, Sabourin and company with the rough stuff. They went after Amadio and Kempe all night, Bickell with some pretty cheap shots after the whistle. Amadio continues to impress. Very good at breaking up plays in the neutral zone to start rushes the other way. Lowry got kicked out for engaging in fight right off the face-off, a game misconduct in the AHL. Schilling also received a game misconduct in the third period also for spearing a player in the mid-section in a scrum after he was boarded behind the Reign net. Not sure if there are any ramifications from the league on that, they cannot afford to lose him, but it was the correct call from my vantage point.

Thanks for the feedback, regulate.

In my few viewings, I've usually come away least impressed with Lintuniemi. He just shows some bad habits that go beyond making defensive errors. As you say, he looks scrambly; he doesn't have this smooth transition from one play to another. He just gets too quick to forget what he was doing five seconds ago and turns his back on previous marked players.

Is that what you were referring to when you call him scrambly, or was there something else you see?

Pretty much. He has improved from the first half of the season when he was just flat out bad on many nights. He lacks discipline at times, causing him to be out of structure, or a bit of a chaser. He has become more confident lately, particularly in the offensive zone with the puck, but right now I don't see him in our NHL future. It is really his first full year, so not a write off by any means, because he has some tools (skating, physical play, size). There is a calmness to LaDue and even Roy with the puck. Patience that you can't teach. I like that, gives me hope they will be NHLer's, they slow the game down.

Roy isn't huge but he seems like he's built like a brick **** house, sort of like Dustin Brown, or maybe even LoVerde.

Reg, I enjoyed your feedback on Roy and the other prospects. It's intriguing to see how Roy and Redd fit in and develop. Feedback is appreciated!

Lintu may not have a significant role on the ice, but he seems to have one off the ice, like Biss does. Seems like half the time Lintu's the one helping new players fit in or being the ringleader. Can't underestimate the value of that. Too bad he hasn't developed as much as hoped. Still, he's had a role in his own way.

The Gulls were resting players Friday, to answer that question - they had most of their ATO and PTO players suited up, along with multiple bruisers, so it wasn't their A lineup. It'll be very interesting next Friday to see what the real lineups look like against each other.

Bad blood continuing to build after Saturday's game, including Bickel calling out the Reign bench late in the game and again while being escorted off the ice after a fight moments later. Btw, I think Sabourin was on the Reign last year as well, not just with the Monarchs earlier.

The Reign don't have the massive size advantage over the Gulls up and down the lineup the way they did last year. Yes, there's some, especially Hodor (I mean Auger), but last year they were just able to push the Gulls around physically and grind them down through each game. That doesn't seem to be as obvious a path for the Reign, this time around.

The Gulls did get Kase back before last night's game, so that'll give them more offensive firepower even before the Ducks fall out of the NHL playoffs.

I read that Kase was called up again.

Right, Blake traded Sabourin to the Wild late last season in exchange for Brett Sutter.

Justin Auger (6'7") is back, but our main PIM guy Kurtis MacDermid (6''5") is out with injury right now, as well as Andrew Crescenzi (6'5"). Biss (6'2") and Trotman (6'3") are injured. Lintuniemi is 6'3". We did have prospect Chaz Reddekopp (6'4") just join us. Matt Luff (6'3") and Justin Gutierrez (6'4") recently joined us, but I don't know how filled out they are. We do have a couple of new guys this year who are 5'9", skilled, but not Kings draftees.

As for Bickel, he's just doing his job, but MacDermid is not there to tell him to shut his yap.

Listened to Saturdays game and Ontarios' announcer said MAcDermid will be available for Game 1.

Also new guy on ATO Iverson with the team today. Development day today for the prospects with the Kings development staff.

I'm assuming Iverson and Iafallo will not be able to play in the playoffs, as they had to be on the clear day roster, or whatever it's called. ??

They'll be able to play because they're on ato contracts.

Thanks. I see the mention of Iverson's ATO, but not Iafallo. The Reign's site has a pic of Iverson on their roster, but not Iafallo.

On another note, yesterday I read (cannot find it now) that Stothers said that Kempe has returned with some fire and more physical play. Sounds like his stint in LA and back to Ontario is paying dividends to help develop him into a more complete player. I fully expect him to make an impact in LA next season. I am still hopeful he can be a top 6 guy, but if he ends up being a third line player that can put some points on the board and increases speed and skill level in the top 9, so be it. You need a good third line to compete.

Looking forward to this series against the Gulls. I hope Brodzinski, Kempe, Amadio, Campbell, Ladue and all play lights out and beat them.

As if right now Iafallo hasn't be assigned to Ontario or signed ATO. But, it could happen at any moment. They might not even formally announce it. It's also possible he just doesn't join the Reign this season, but I'd be surprised if that's the case. Plus the Buffalo based reporter who broke the news said he was headed to Ontario.

As I understand it, the "clear day roster" went away with the last CBA... I've been unable to really find details about when players can and cannot move between the NHL and AHL teams in the post-season in the new era -- or I'm just too dense to understand.

It's in the AHL rulebook. Basically the only restriction is 18 skaters 2 goalkeepers and no more than 12 can have more than 260 games of pro experience and that's really it.

I think the restriction you where thinking about pertains to players in the NHL. They have to be on the AHL roster on March 1st to be eligible to play in the Calder Cup. LaDue and Kempe were sent down on a "paper transaction" that day and brought back up, so they can play. Brodzinski was still with ONT at the time, and Gravel was not sent down, although he was eligible to be, but they decided he has graduated to the NHL. Would have helped us, that's for sure, but it's a development league so, a new guy needs the experience.

Iafallo did an interview after signing with the Kings. About 2 minutes in, he is asked about his immediate plans and if he's joining Ontario. He says he's going to stay to finish his exams, which are in 2 weeks, and get his degree.

Kempe can fly, and with this crop of speedy youngsters, he needs to be the guy leading the charge, starting in Ontario. Glad to see he's back with a vengeance. He's a significantly different player without the swagger/arrogance he displayed in the AHL.

I'll go ahead and say our breakout performer will be Michael Amadio... the kid has just looked fantastic these past few weeks and hopefully he'll continue with his all around play..

looking forward to sat night , the place should be rocking with a virtual sellout. looking forward to seeing how some nhl time helps their games and gulls games are normally fun
