We usually don't post about the ECHL. But since it's the Monarchs.

That is the SICKEST save I've seen in a while. Plus the shooters reaction is priceless!

This time it was the Reign who gave up a late goal in a game that had seemed headed for OT. It took a perfect sniper shot from Kerdiles to beat Campbell with 93 seconds left in regulation - before that, Campbell and the Reign's team D seemed nearly unsolveable, and the Gulls were fighting to stay in the game. Enroth received a fully earned star for his performance - without him, this would have been a very different game indeed.

The tempers are flaring. MacDermid and Sabourin had a tangle that wasn't quite a fight, with a lot of penalty box shouting. I expect a rematch on Monday.

just got home great game by the reign 4-1 , Auger might not have a NHL future but he has a knack for getting the puck and winning battles , had 2 goals and a assist tonite , kinda slow looking at times but gets there . Campbell looked good as did the kids but the best defence man there was Ladue IMHO , he is going to be a stud. Think i am going to have to go to San Diego for the decider

For the first time all series, it looked like last year's matchup, with the Reign pushing the Gulls around with their size. Auger had his best game of the year of the games against the Gulls, for sure, stepping up in a way he really hadn't quite done before. The word of the game for the Reign was "pressure", both offensively (spending huge swaths of time in the Gulls zone), and attacking the Gulls defensemen, giving them no time to find good outlets. It was the first of the four games in which one team was clearly the better one on the ice.

It was by far Auger's best game of the year against anyone. He seems to have a clutch game mentality when it's on the line. He scored a big goal against the Gulls last year in the playoffs too. I concur with your analysis about the game. Gulls forecheck did a pretty good job at times too keeping the Reign in check sort of speak. Anyone's game tonight. Key for the Reign is first goal, stay out of the box and take the loud SD crowd out of the game. You guys have great fans down there.

Thank you - it's been a joy to see and hear the SDSA (VVCC, whatever) rocking with fan enthusiasm after the years without hockey, and the diminishing enthusiasm of the ECHL years of the former incarnation. I think the noise that 10k (a non-sellout) made after the empty-net goal in Game Three was more intense than I'd ever heard there before, even during Game Seven wins of the Taylor Cup on home ice.

Unfortunately, a weeknight game, followed by only one day of run-up for ticket sales, is likely to mean a depressed turnout despite the do-or-die nature of the game. From the video, it looked like less than half of the people who were at Game Two showed up for Game Four in Ontario - I'd not be shocked to see a similar falloff between Games Three and Five.

The Gulls' forecheck seemed to be effective in the first period last night, but far less so in the 2nd and 3rd.

You're not wrong about first goal being key, for both teams - I believe that in 24 regular-season games, and now 9 post-season games between the teams, that only THREE have been won by the team that didn't score first.

Here's hoping there's just no officiating controversies tonight, whatever the outcome!

you are right about the turnout last night, there were plenty of seats and one whole section empty , the seats I purchased thru my season seats account was called the Power Play deal and it actually put me in the middle of three rows of gulls fans in 119 which the usher told me was the section gull fans congregate in, so we moved over to 103 on the other side and had the whole row to ourselves 8 rows up from the ice. Sad to hear the game is tonight I can not get out of meetings this afternoon to go down there , crazy schedule with very little thought given to booster the crowd or the game .........hoping you are right and no bad officiating , the call that led to the gulls power play goal happened 40 feet from me and the ref was looking in the other direction and when the players collided they hit his back leg and he called JB because he landed on top , it happens lol and very glad it did not lead to elimination that would have suxed

Jack Campbell is out tonight with an injury. And apparently Zatkoff hurt himself during warmups so it appears Jack Flinn will fill in

Regin down 3-0. Honestly, Flinn has no business being on this roster at all. And Campbell is coming in to play hurt!! Wow!

I don't know if I ever something like that. A game 7 situation, a goaltending duo series, the Reign have the momentum.... And they go from 1st string goalie to the 3rd string goalie in the matter of a a few hours!! Brutal. :shakehead

Gotta feel a bit for Flinn. His job was to hold down the fort for 10 minutes while Campbell stretched and got ready, and he lets up 3 goals in that time, and the team loses the game by 3 goals.... That's rough.
