Questions on some Ontario players.

How has Sharipzianov, Lintuneimi, Schilling and MacDermid looked on D?

How has Amadio, Auger and Bjorkstrand looked out of the forward group?

See any future NHL players on their roster?

Thanks

Can't really comment on the defense personally but I'd say Amadio, Auger, Mersch, and Brodzinski will all likely be future NHL'ers. Brods was likely the next callup before he got hurt

Sharipzianov and Lintuniemi have a very long way to go to see if they will make an impact, but nothing is standing out to me in their rookie campaigns to say they will ever play in the NHL. Still early, they are learning. Schilling and MacDermid could probably play an NHL game (Schilling has previously for the record) and not look out of place. Not sure if the Kings will re-sign Schilling due to his age (same goes for LoVerde). MacDermid right now is probably a tweener, but he is the kind of player the Kings need desperately on the back end. I think the main question is whether or not he is mobile enough to keep up consistently with his reads. It's not that he is slow per se, but his reaction time and anticipation need some improvement, and could be exposed at the NHL level.

Amadio had a real good stretch of hockey in January and February where a lot of promise looked to start to be fulfilled. He has not done much at all the last couple games. The key for Amadio will be compete level and tempo. He has a lot of good tools you look for in an NHL player. He is probably a season or two off. Still needs to get stronger. Just a kid in the eyes of Stothers. Not physical at all.

Bjorkstrand is an excellent skater, but is not a heavy player and is easily knocked off the puck. Has a pretty good shot, was grounded most of the season I would assume due to defensive lapses. Not sure he fits into the Kings plans.

Auger, and I have said this before, in my opinion will not be an NHL player. Well there are some things to like (size, forward speed once he gets moving, good at tip plays in front of the net), he doesn't use his size like one would like, but more importantly, everything he does due to his long torso seems to take an extra half second, which means loosing shot opportunities or the puck at the AHL level. Obviously that would be worse in the NHL. I could be wrong, but right now I don't see him making the NHL cut next year.

Brodzinski is on everyone's radar because he possess the intangible you need to get to the next level. He can shoot! Most of his game is very average, nothing particularly stands out, but he knows how to get to scoring areas and has a great, hard and usually accurate shot. When his compete level is high, he sometimes hits the net 7-10 times in a game when he is going on all cylinders. I think he can play at the next level.

Kings are very thin at the AHL level right now due to call ups. New players coming into the fold next year should strengthen the pipeline.

While in the AHL, this is almost EXACTLY the same criticism leveled at Brian Boyle! ;)

Boyle lacked foot speed, which is why the Kings were stupid to want him be a defenseman.

Auger lacks a shooting technique. I thought it was hilarious when the MM article praised his shot.

The Reign's magic number is 21 points with 15 games remaining (and 17 games remaining for Tucson), so 22 of 32 results would have to go against the Reign for them to miss the playoffs.

So, _if_ the Kings miss the playoffs, who would the Reign expect to get/get back for their own playoff run?

Kempe and LaDue. They were sent down for one day in paper transactions before the deadline, presumably to be available if the Reign outlast the Kings.

Is it wrong for me to be impressed with MacDermid's +12 ...........???:dunno:

Best on the team by far. There are a lotta minuses on the team.

More gold from Stothers, on the overtime loss last night:

Hockey is the only sport where you get a point for losing, or rewarding mediocrity. We were “OK†at best, but still got a ribbon for participating.

Absolutely dominant performance by the Reign today in their 5-0 whitewash of the Roadrunners. Always helps to have Lombardi in the house when you play your best.

Jonny B with 2 goals and an assist and Mersch with a goal and an assist with Lombardi in the house

Turning my focus to the Reign. Cause, well, you know...

But Michael Mersch has been impressive. Scored two goals last night (one of which was a shortie, great individual effort by Mersch) he's a guy who could get back in the mix next season

Edit: and as I'm typing this Mersch scores!! 16 goals on the year (he missed 6 or 7 weeks with an injury)

He needs to be called-up

For a team that can pour on a million shots a game but not get the garbage to clean it up, Mersch seems like an elixir. It's too bad he was injured, but it's also too bad he didn't show anything at camp.

Dwight King's replacement next year?

Brown-Kopitar-Gaborik
Forbort-Doughty

Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Gravel-Martinez

Lewis-Kempe-Brodzinski
McNabb-LaDue

Mersch-Dowd-Nolan

Quick
Campbell

With cap constraints and untradable contracts this is as good as it'll likely get.... our bottom 6 might be better than this season but that 3rd line could surprise

I think he was reading his own pressing clippings (ie: following John Hoven on Twitter). He seemed really dejected when he didn't make the roster. Eventually got his game going in Ontario, then got injured, but he has been awesome since his return. I'd got imagine seeing Kempe and Brodzinski getting called up ahead of him is lighting fire under him. The knock on Mersch is he can't skate, and it's true. But he's actually really quick on his feet making basketball like pivot moves and is good at deflecting the puck. Which is why I think he'll find success in the NHL.

I concur with this. He can find success in the NHL, and if he wasn't hurt, would be right up their with Brodzinski in goals. His skating will always be below NHL average, but a lot of guys can still be effective. There is no reason he would not be a more productive player than Andreoff or Clifford on the 4th line LW, especially if he was a PP and SH specialist.
