Questions on some Ontario players.
How has Sharipzianov, Lintuneimi, Schilling and MacDermid looked on D?
How has Amadio, Auger and Bjorkstrand looked out of the forward group?
See any future NHL players on their roster?
Thanks
Sharipzianov and Lintuniemi have a very long way to go to see if they will make an impact, but nothing is standing out to me in their rookie campaigns to say they will ever play in the NHL. Still early, they are learning. Schilling and MacDermid could probably play an NHL game (Schilling has previously for the record) and not look out of place. Not sure if the Kings will re-sign Schilling due to his age (same goes for LoVerde). MacDermid right now is probably a tweener, but he is the kind of player the Kings need desperately on the back end. I think the main question is whether or not he is mobile enough to keep up consistently with his reads. It's not that he is slow per se, but his reaction time and anticipation need some improvement, and could be exposed at the NHL level.
Amadio had a real good stretch of hockey in January and February where a lot of promise looked to start to be fulfilled. He has not done much at all the last couple games. The key for Amadio will be compete level and tempo. He has a lot of good tools you look for in an NHL player. He is probably a season or two off. Still needs to get stronger. Just a kid in the eyes of Stothers. Not physical at all.
Bjorkstrand is an excellent skater, but is not a heavy player and is easily knocked off the puck. Has a pretty good shot, was grounded most of the season I would assume due to defensive lapses. Not sure he fits into the Kings plans.
Auger, and I have said this before, in my opinion will not be an NHL player. Well there are some things to like (size, forward speed once he gets moving, good at tip plays in front of the net), he doesn't use his size like one would like, but more importantly, everything he does due to his long torso seems to take an extra half second, which means loosing shot opportunities or the puck at the AHL level. Obviously that would be worse in the NHL. I could be wrong, but right now I don't see him making the NHL cut next year.
Brodzinski is on everyone's radar because he possess the intangible you need to get to the next level. He can shoot! Most of his game is very average, nothing particularly stands out, but he knows how to get to scoring areas and has a great, hard and usually accurate shot. When his compete level is high, he sometimes hits the net 7-10 times in a game when he is going on all cylinders. I think he can play at the next level.
Kings are very thin at the AHL level right now due to call ups. New players coming into the fold next year should strengthen the pipeline.
