And most of us are also taking him at his word that his off season training was affected
I'm not so sure people are taking him at his word....because these were his words....

"I had a good summer. It was a little different — I had to train around my knee injury but I feel great," said Pettersson. "It's like a nagging injury, it doesn't want to go away easily, but we figured out a way to work around it."

In other words, the tendinitis is still there for Pettersson but he and the medical staff he worked with have ways of managing it. He did not seem overly worried about the injury or that it would hold him back in any way.

"I don't feel any pain right now or after [practice]," he said. "It's not a big thing."

Well it’s evident his confidence is shot right now but we don’t know the cause. Is it because his body is just not there and he can’t do the things he want or is it because he is over thinking things.
I think the team most likely mismanaged the crap out of this, that I feel confident about.
I know people are concerned but I feel like he has shown to be a great player, I look at things in the longer term. Getting rid of him would be a super short term solution and we’ll 100% regret it especially if he has a good offseason and come back looking like a 100 pt player on a different team.
I personally don't know if it was mismanaged or not....the Canucks medical staff doesn't hold a lot of faith with me, but I think EP is a guy who would say something if he had an injury that needed attention.

I think there is risk on both sides of the equation...trading or keeping. I'd prefer to keep him if I knew he was going to get back to his game in his prime years, but the red flags are too hard to ignore for me.

Medical staff is shit. You happy? Doesn't change anything.
You referenced them as an authority on the situation, and took my opinion that medical staff is definitely not a reliable authority as proof of how out to lunch anyone defending EP is so yeah, thanks for agreeing with me in that end on that.

And for the record EP isn't getting a pass from me. He needs to figure it out. I think the injury was the origin of the problem last year, and that having his offseason hampered was a big part of the problem for this year, but I am also sure that the injury is not the only problem at this point. It would be nearly impossible to slump for a year, get dumped on by fans, mgmt and even some of your own teammates the entire time, and not develop some other problems along the way. It's up to him to move past whatever off ice stuff is causing problems, whatever that may be.

Those pesky fans.

I feel like he is the type to play through injury because hockey player

On Dom's model living the canucks so much, Drance has touched on this many times. The model still looks at Demko, EP, Miller (before the trade) etc as if they were the players they were last year and isn't accounting for the drop off.

On Pettersson compared to McDavid and Draisaitl... you know that was trolling to rile up Oilers fans right?

Seemingly you definitely aren't taking him at his word.

The point is he talks both about being great, and the injury not going away... then goes on to talk about it being... different, and having to train around it.

with the break coming up it would be beneficial for those who need it. healing bumps and bruises besides quinn hughes. i think mgmnt is gonna pull a rabbit out of their hats again come trade deadline or before. boeser is for sure gone. and a couple of more ufas. hopefully this offseason cnaucks find some veterantype guys for the locckerrom to lighten the room when it gets tough and give some advices to the younger players. make a mistake its okay. go back out there and keep trying . not the ones that screams and yells.
