So Liverpool loses to Arsenal, Michigan loses to Michigan State, and the Jets have one of their worst games in the past 3 seasons.

Pretty crummy day, I'm going to eat some leftover Chinese food.

As bad as things look right now this could actually be a good thing. It has become clear that there are some issues with coaching, roster spots that need to be addressed. I'd like to see Pavelec bought out after the season, a new coaching staff (interim for now?), at least 1-2 core players from Atlanta dealt. Trade quantity for quality if you can, creating room for upcoming prospects.

If they can get a skilled forward in the upcoming draft (top 5 pick), begin the mending process with Burmistrov... Things can turnaround pretty quickly.

Very well said A_wildstabatanything, I think(hope) that upper management realizes that the coaching and goaltending are the problem. I really hope we trade or buyout Pavelec because he is not taking us to the promised land. As for Noel he is just not a NHL coach and he was never chevys guy. Hopefully Chevy gets to put his stamp on this team because I don't he has had that chance:nod:

This team isn't built to play the style that Noel preaches.

I know people don't like the idea of bringing in a Guy Boucher-type that plays for 2-1 wins, but I have to say: this current roster has speed to burn in transition and enough rangy, tenacious players to suffocate teams through the neutral zone.

What they clearly lack are guys who consistently win battles along the boards, the kind of guys that allow the "get pucks deep" mentality to function. Seriously, how often do the Jets create offense off the cycle or when their starting point is below the hash marks in the other teams end. Nearly all their offense is off the rush in transition.

Well said: these players score off the rush, with speed, or players going to the net. They are not the LA Kings, as much as we might want them to be. Even if they "buy into" the system, I'm not sure they can effectively employ it.

Use what you've got: these players may not be Crosby'esque style elite, but they are fast and have enough talent to put the puck in the net off the rush.

I'd like circa 90's Roy. Both have just about the same likelihood of happening.

If the team wanted elite goaltending at the cost of signing it's stars they should have grabbed Luongo last spring.

I think you need to wait a couple more years til the cupboards are more full. If you make that kind of a deal now you will set back what they are building.

I hear Trouba is really competitve. That is one guy I would build around. Bogo has regressed this year and I would move him.

I would make a coaching chance before that but if you got an offer for Bogo that knocked off your socks then you do it.

Not me, I'd actually like having Boucher coach this team.

Been preaching this for a while now. Why not play to the strength of of top players, instead of trying to change every top player we have into something they're not?

Well, this 5 year plan is looking like it's more on track to be a 7-8 year plan to become a team that can make the playoffs and have hope of winning a series. Hopefully in years 3 and 4 of this plan starting out in the West we can become good enough losers to build the base of our team for years to come with some solid top 5 picks, being mired in mediocrity is the worst.

I think we have a lot of pieces (both on our NHL roster and in the pipeline) but not much in the elite category, just Kane and Trouba if they fulfill their potential. We need some high picks, and we need to make the right picks.

lol this last caller just called in saying "i know a lot of callers want to blame pavs and montoya"

who is blaming monty? he let in 1 goal in 2 period and made some crazy saves. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE LOL?!!?

has the entire city been poisoned with some sort of blindess to pavlecs terrible goaltending?

I think a lot of people are tired of hearing just about Pavelec's play and realise that these losses are on more than just the goalie. There are plenty of problems.

Noel said Pavelec made great saves tonight, so Pavelec probably. Montoya didn't make any great saves, despite only letting in one goal. Gotta get that great save quotient up before you can start, Monty!

x1000000

For a tactic called a swarm, there's almost no pressure on the puck in 5 on 5 EVER!

I think they stumbled on the reason. Expectations haven't been all that high given the deficient roster.

It doesn't particularly help that Noel has the team playing a bad defensive system and an offensive system that doesn't fit the teams strengths. Noel is trying to fit a square peg in to a round hole and then blaming the square peg for not fitting.

That outside of Big Buff the team is outright bad and that they don't understand why Noel hasn't been fired.

Little and Enström have both been clearly better than Buff, and have actually looked to easily deserve their contracts. However, they're not very noticable players, so I can understand how an outside fanbase would miss them.
