Max Jones, Mac Jones — what’s in a name? Phonetically, they’re close enough to have been nothing more than a fail in Boston.Max Jones 2024-25 Edition
"I haven't seen anything in Jones that makes me think he should be on the roster at all. He isn't even a physical force. He just takes dumb penalties."
"Gotta feel for the guy. I had high hopes for his role but didn't see that fast hard hockey i was expecting come to think of it, only play i really remember from him is when he accidentally slashed the ref"
"A great day in Bruins Land. What a waste of money."
"Don’t know if injury got him or what. But he hasn’t shown anything to even be on an NHL roster early this season. If only we had got the guy I was familiar with. He would have been a fan favourite.
"Exactly how I feel. I like(d) the player a lot and thought he would be a great bottom six add for the team that was lacking grit and physicality. He's been terrible. I know he was hurt in camp (always the problem with him) and maybe never really got going and could still be hurt in some way. Best if he goes to Providence and tries to pull it together."
"I fully admit I thought Max Jones would be more impactful than he was. Which is sad because any sort of impact would have been better than he was."
You are reaching here. The examples you are sharing are both old and not necessarily relevant. Not all players become the gem we all wish them to be and it’s not always because of ‘development’. Maybe the Collberg example is because Collberg didn’t deserve a better spot in the lineup. Norlinder had plenty of time to prove himself. There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving Kapanen some NHL games and then returning him to Timra. He proved he is a capable NHL player at an already young age and will further work on his game there.Do you think the Habs have done a good job developing prospects the last 10 years?
Timmins said he felt they made a mistake when they brought Collberg over for camp because when he went back, he lost his spot in the lineup. But then they repeated the same mistake with Norlinder, who I kept saying should stay in the SHL another year. Yet he bounced around until he finally went back home.
Whatever anyone's opinions are, the only thing that matters is results in the end. Everyone makes mistakes, but with drafting, development, the more mistakes you make, the worse things end up. Everyone should just want what's best for the future of the Habs and no one really knows what that is so I don't get why people get defensive over anyone having a opinion pointing out a possible mistake.
I think they are too close from the 50 contracts and they don't want to add more with all the prospect coming up eventually1M$. 2 years. But nope...that's too much. Small price to pay when you bring up Condotta, affecting Laval and not getting better too. And Jones fit the bill of the speed and toughness we needed.
But hey....i mean everything is going fine so who are we to judge....lol
condotta is already a proven bottom 6 in the nhL? When did that happen?
Let us not forget Mack Jones:Max Jones, Mac Jones — what’s in a name? Phonetically, they’re close enough to have been nothing more than a fail in Boston.
All due respect but.......Condotta is a bag of d***s and should never be more than a 13th forward who plays only in emergencies.Right call. He was doing well at first, but now he was simply a jersey filler.
Condotta will be a better fit for the 4th line.
Easy fix...Kapanen has always worn #27Also
That'll teach the kid to take #91... its reserved! lol
And it’s the case. St-Louis said Condotta was brought in as an emergency move because they needed a centre short term. All due respect but.......Condotta is a bag of d***s and should never be more than a 13th forward who plays only in emergencies.

No. HuGo made a mistake hinting they’d be “in the mix.” Last year’s training camp showed how the media clutched their pearls when HuGo wouldn’t even mention the “P” word. So I get why they felt the need in the season’s postmortem to say they’d aim for it, but they’re not even just a little bit close to being in the mix. They probably knew it too, but to appease the media (that would be you, among others, Ray-Jean, whiner par excellence) and fans (who, let’s be honest, aren’t as sharp as they once were), they dun tole everyone that anyways. You can't be at the end of a rebuild only 2.5 years after your new coach takes the helm, and one of your star players returns from injury after missing the entire year of development. Are we in the mix now?
We should have high expectation from our first round pick we are a bottom feeder. We have been drafting top 5 from 2022 to now and i dont think i will change this year. I agree with mid to late first and later round.I don't know, man. I still think it's too early to tell.
I look around the league and there isn't one standardized development plan for all prospects. All teams have some that make the roster and some that cook in the ahl.
I can see an argument for guys like Arber, Struble, Barron to cook. But then guys like Guhle, Hutson, Slaf....it's very common for this calibre of player to play at the nhl level.
I think we just have to have reasonable expectations. We've made like 30 picks in the last 3 years. We're lucky if 5-6 make it on the club. The vast majority will bust regardless of the dev method. I sometimes feel like there is a legit expectation on this board that all 1st and 2nd round picks should be nhlers when that is just not going to happen.
Every prospects is playing against the odds.
Sorry for the tangent.
Let's be fair, no way HuGo planned for this year to go the way it's going. Oh, I just chose to omit him as he didn’t play for the Red Sox.Let us not forget Mack Jones:

I has sure they would keep him until December and send him to Laval.Likely he stayed extra time because of injuries but definitely perplexing since he was three weeks away from being able to go to Laval. Wonder if rhp is close and that's why this timing.

Absolutely, there's no way HuGo planned on things to unravel quite like this. But they also didn't count on Laine being out of the lineup for 3 - 4 months of the season. That said, I think they always understood the real possibility of regression and inconsistency among the players. Outside of seasoned players like Armia, Gallagher, Evans, Savard, Matheson, and Montembeault, we’re mostly looking at a young roster with a lot of room and time to grow. HuGo keep teling us development just isn’t a linear path - we should believe them. Look at Slaf, he showed real signs of "having arrived" at the end of last season but he is still finding his footing - he'll get back to where he was, as will Dach and Suzuki too. It’s a process. Look at the Devils, who also lost their best player last year;: it was rough for them, after their breakout the year before. Now, they’re back on track. It’s all part of having a maturing team,.Let's be fair, no way HuGo planned for this year to go the way it's going. No one did.
They brought in Laine, who even on bad years has a history of being close to PPG.
Montambeault was WAY, WAY better last year.
Primeau was not great, but much better than he is now.
Armia played better than now after going to Laval
Suzuki seems lost out there
Dach is playing worse than anyone ever imaged he would, despite knowing it'd take time to come back to 100%
We all knew we'd be bad, but no one thought we'd be THIS bad.
It's a graveyard for Finnish skaters. Few get better.I guess he couldn't / wouldn't go to the AHL? That would've been better.
