Confirmed with Link: Oilers sign Connor Brown to 1-year incentive laden deal ($775K caphit, potentially $3.25M in bonuses)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
The main problem with the contract is how it's punitive unless the Oilers win the cup (or bare minimum make the finals).

Winning a round or two or just making the playoffs means the signing is useless except perhaps to pad the pocketbook of Katz. It instantly makes the deal a bad bet even if Brown turns it around and scores 50.

IMO, there's a reason you heard the, "Cup or Bust." quotes from players. 3.2 mil is not chump change next year.

Absolutely.
Refreshing to hear that there are posters out there that are actually pulling for the player (and his road back to being a solid middle 6 player) instead of taking delight in highlighting his struggles.
Not taking a poke at you, but I don’t sense anyone is taking delight in talking about Brown’s struggles.

I do hear a lot of frustration about them and concern about the contract impacts for next year however.

Papering them over by saying if he gets on track now points-wise, that it's pretty good for a league minimum player is such an illogical and false twisting of facts.

Just my sense of the discussion.

I don’t agree. This thread is the same people blabbing on how he sucks.

I understand frustration (totally justified) but the posts I am referring to do not fall into that catagory.

...and according to said posters...Brown has always sucked.
So a false narrative props up and seemingly justifies their ongoing agenda.

Now sit back and watch the shuffling that takes place to rationalize those inane posts.

I guess I missed seeing those posts. I didn’t see any delight.
Well...it certainly doesnt qualify as frustration.

The use of the word delight was more metaphorical.

There is a difference between making a false claim (ie Brown has always sucked and therefore he always will suck so any mocking of the player is now justified) and voicing frustration over his play this season.

As I said...I understand the frustration. Its justifiable.

Clogging up a thread with repeated inane nonsense is not frustration.

Connor brown is "coming". We've been hearing this now for 3mths. "He's just about there" "he's playing really good" lol The same posters always saying it.

Any questioning of the player is labeled, hate, bias, etc. How about the player is the worst player on this team by miles?

Pretty sure we would all love it if Brown started scoring, the frustration and saying he sucks is because he is supposed to score goals and is 0/27. Just like we'd all love it if Skinner turned into a vezina candidate, is there anyone here that actually cheers for an Oiler player to fail? Other than trolls. That would be really weird

Have to think if he hasn't picked it up by the trade deadline, someone might take a flyer on him, even if the return is a late pick. AFAIK Any team acquiring him is on the hook for only his minimal salary this season, but even that little bit of space could help us with some flexibility at the deadline or the offseason.

Talk about frustrating though. I really didn't think we'd spend all the money we saved by no re signing Yamamoto on someone who managed to be even worse.

Oilers would be better off just waiving him and having him as depth for the post season.

Oilers save the same amount, and no one is giving up anything for him.

You spelled Bjugstad wrong. hehe. Thats a player I would have liked to retain. No reason for them not to and the player brought it here regular season and playoffs. I thought Bjugstad was a solid vet that could go up and down the lineup. In the zeal to try to hit higher the team got a player pulling up lame instead.

Bjugstad 21pts and constant contributions and playing an honest game. Whats not to like in that?

Yeah. Its just a couple posters that do this trying to push shade. Better to not even see the posts.

Oddly enough I was one of the few posters here saying that the team would rebound this season with a coaching reset. But thats totally ignored in this missive of some to slander that other posters are cheering team failure. Nah, we'd like a GM that gets less Campbells and Connor Browns and stuff. i even tried cheering on Campbell to turn around. Again that being ignored.

But after all this is the Connor Brown thread. One would think it easy for some to avoid comments about the player that they don't want to see..

It’s like they don’t understand that there are more jobs than just scoring. Yes, he’s been snake bit, but firming up his defenceive game rather than cheating for offence is what the team needs.

Or we understand that he has regular EVGA as well considering difficulty of minutes. Ironically at EV he's one of the most notable guys getting caught up ice.

This notion of Brown as a solid 200ft player hasn't been validated for years. It keeps getting mentioned as something..seems like anything will do to try to prop the player up. Doesn't pass the sniff test.

Nah. It’s accurate. There is delight in the opportunity Brown has provided for one particular poster to pat himself on the back for having predicted this type of result back when the signing occurred. And repeatedly call out those who thought Brown might do OK here. The irony being that this is precisely the sort of behavior that sends him into a meltdown when applied to his posts.

Looks like I have the two correct people on ignore.

lol

I called this too.

Its clockwork with these two.

Imagine such attempts at flaming over critiques of Connor Brown.

What a hill to die on.

Yet, you flame anyone who says anything good about Brown.

Oh no, what have I done? ;)

its one thread guy. Not gonna be too positive about the player thats giving us dick all. Like I said I wish he was a leaf. Could laugh about it then.

But again for people to tune into the Connor brown thread, and then complain about the comments on the player being decidedly negative seems like wanting something to complain about. What do some people expect to be seeing here regarding the player? Adulation?

The latest bunch of posting occurred just because a couple posters were talking about wanting to re-up Connor Brown for next season, as ridiculous as that notion sounds. I thought that was cruel and unusual as we've been made to have to watch this player too much already this season.
