Last time I checked you can’t force someone what or what not to say on a discussion board so that it fits your narrative. Nice try though.

Check the context of what I said.
You created a strawman and attacked it. What exactly is my narrative in your opinion?

So next year I can bitch all year about brown having 0 points for the Oilers while having a 3.225milion cap? I’ll make sure to @ you with every post
Do what you want, though not sure why you want to @ me since I'm not talking about next year.

I’ll use a poker analogy to better convey what I’m saying. With brown we are what they call “pot committed” as in we already have 3ish million committed to this player on the cap next year whether he plays here or not. What’s another 800k to find out if he’s really done or not? Unless there is some clear cut significant upgrade out there for 800k why not bet on him covering part of the bet we’ve already made?
In your example the pot odds are still terrible and it's a bet made where everyone knows its a one outter at best.

I just don't see an nhl player there, at all doesn't matter at what price. Some people in the thread sure sound like Louie just polishing away. "He is sure is getting his feet moving at times out there."

I see a player that would/should have been punted to the AHL after 5 games tops with zero chance of a call up.

Injuries. Mental. Whatever is plaguing him doesn't matter. He is terrible and needs to be shot into the sun as soon as possible.

He is statistically significantly worse than Campbell but in a position that can somewhat hide how immensely terrible he has been. Ignoring position I take Campbell on my team before Brown. Obviously neither but there should be proper perspective on exactly how silly defending Brown on this team is.

Playoff aspirations... Obviously not with an anchor like Brown on the roster.

No. I responded in my posts here this morning specifically to comments you made in 2 of your own consecutive posts. If you think that’s creating a strawman, you believe what you need to. I sense you won’t get it. No need to further discuss from my end.

I haven't the slightest clue what you are on about tbh.

I agreed with another poster that for this season Brown may still prove valuable (i.e. as opposed to replacing him with another league-minimum player), especially since I thought he looked good in the last game.

You then proceeded to misconstrue my statement to be that I value the entirety of the contract, something I never stated (I don't like the entirety of his contract and never did from the beginning). There is your strawman.

Bizarrely I even pointed out in my post that this wasn't what I was arguing yet you still made a strawman out of it.

Terrible take, three points in 27 games for a veteran that got a lot of minutes until recently with either McDavid or Draisaitl.

in reality he’s getting 4 million as he’s probably not going to be playing for the Oilers next year. And even if he does he’s getting the 3.25 million regardless and for a contender that wasted cap could be a major difference maker.
Yep. Isn't it rich how the same posters that were loving this acquisition and mouthing off others that were not in favor of it are still doubling down?

I remember you were one of the few others that were not keen at all on this player or contract.

Whether you choose to acknowledge it or not Brown was a very good player in the NHL for a several years and is not old. Maybe he’s done but maybe he isn’t. There’s a decent bet he bounces back to some extent.
As the other poster mentioned this is an unfathomable level of denial. The optics or reupping a shit performance like he's brought runs counter to any notion of players being required to be competitive and value to the team. The Oilers are getting balls out from nearly every player. They're getting negligible return from one.

I think his point was what Brown could be for the remainder of the season, not what he's done early in the season.

At $775k he is a no-risk player this year and I thought he had a really good game against Anaheim. If he keeps that up he's great value, although we'll obviously have to wait and see.

And before you retort about the bonus, don't bother as I am aware he has the bonus but we are stuck with it regardless.
"Great value" I'm spitting coffee here. What on Earth?

If you don't want that nature of retort pick the vernacular a bit better. Any association of "Great" and "Brown" this season deserves its response.

He's had two assists recently in games against worse possible opposition. In both of these games the opponent was overwhelmed. In both these were pretty nothing assists passing the puck to D. Its not like Brown is making any sharp plays, or that he was "really good" in the game, or that he's "great value" snicker.

From the start its been like the special Connor Brown fan club in this thread. With ironically the ardent defenders even being lippy about it.

That I was, I hoped it would turn out as a positive but so far it hasn’t. True, Brown is still useful on the PK, but in hindsight signing a fourth line PKer would have been the better option for the Oilers. I just didn’t have any true faith that he’d fulfill the bonus value of the deal going in to the last year of Draisaitls current deal.

There’s still 48 games to go, but I’d say odds are he will end the season with 5 goals and under 15 points at 4 million that’s a more than a little short for someone that’s not an elite shut down Forward. And that’s my optimistic take.

Next time you accuse people of strawmanor misconstruing your posts you should proofread for how ridiculous your last few posts here have been.

Yep. Even with some modest recovery it still makes it a terrrible deal because not only is Brown not worth the 4m ultimately spent on him, he's not even servicing a league minimum contract. He's a guy we've tried to move around the lineup to see if theres any value in him on any line. Meanwhile EVERY player that has been relieved of the duty of playing with Connor brown has responded with a hot spell. This guy has been a cooler on every line he's been on. Even Adam Erne is prolific in relative usage and pts/60minutes and he actually hits and engages in battle.

Heres the thing. EV, Brown can't even be looked at as anything close to a shutdown forward. He's been bleeding for years going way back to his play even in Ottawa, and before serious knee injury.

I said if he plays as well as last game he'll be great value. Now you're also creating a strawman lol.

However, you're the most stubborn poster on this board in terms of changing an opinion so I won't bother engaging on the subject with you.

The Washington Capitals, who had Brown, were not pot committed to continue Brown. Think about that. People seemingly at the time gave that precious little thought while still thinking, somehow, that the Leafs and Oilers ought to go hard on the player. The Capitals had most information, knew all the cards on the table, and they chose to fold, using your analogy.

He didn't play "really well" in the last game, and again thats against a team that other than Gibson was an AHL level of opposition. The ducks are so bad the fans weren't booing the opponents...Without Gibson in net we load a dozen goals.

Its the trouble with using false superlatives. If Brown played "really well" in the Anaheim game whats your description for all the OIlers who were better than Brown in the game? Thus the inobjectivity is contained in your hyperbole about Browns game. You could say Brown was passable in the last game and that would be closer to accurate reflection. You yourself are confounding your position using terms that are indefensible in relation to player.

Its odd that you're wondering why you're getting push back on your posts in the thread from several posters. Read back to see how you've framed some of your statements.

In anycase I would say its "stubborn" taking a blind man position on what Connor Brown has been here and still double downing that in 2024. .

He’s tied with Kostin in points, not bad.

Your hatred for the player is clearly clouding your reading ability in this thread.

We’re already committed to this player, you’re still trying to run him out of town when our best option is hoping he recovers to something that helps the team.

Connor Brown manages to tie his skate laces on same skates and put on some of his equipment, and wear his helmet backwards...and its "he played really well in that game" if only he could do this more he would be "great value" and "its coming" You, know, like the messiah that was proclaimed to lead us to a SC.

Its like the Mickey Mouse Connor Brown glee club in here some days. Which is pretty odd to see here given that another year has passed.

To wit Connor Brown has not scored a goal in his last 46GP across 3 clubs. Connor Brown has not scored a SINGLE NHL goal in the last 22mths.

what a maroon

Good call.
Brown had his best game of the season against the Ducks. His skating is looking better...his anticipation is looking better and he was all over it.
Really good to see. What a great 3rd line this team would have if Brown continues his progression and Kane is playing good hockey on the other wing.
Makes this a much better team.

Of course there are the ususal posters on here that put a lot of energy into undermining any positives because ultimatly they dont want Brown to succeed.

Interesting isnt it....if Brown can continue to progress (actually get some puck luck around the net) and become a solid middle 6 player offensively and defensively...this becomes a better team.
Despite that fact these posters are desperate to undermine anything positive Brown does only because they cant deal with being wrong about the player.

Speaks volumes.

In reality he's getting 775k (which counts against the cap) with the rest being performance bonuses for next year.

Complain about the overage next year. We can't use that extra money to make this team any better for this year.

Lol.

"he was all over it"

You'd think he had some starring game.

Perhaps its just this, that the hyperbole regarding a player that hasn't scored in 46NHL games in a row is patently ridiculous. That we still come to the board and read Connor Brown hype in 2024 after half a season here is worse.

The team becomes a better team on ice any game in which Browns EV role is limited. Any line he's on doesn't produce a drop.

"Speaks volumes" yeah, that you're misrepresenting others views. Yet again.

All your post is, is attempts to denigrate other views. So frankly don't bother responding, I won't see your further trolling.

The bonus threshold was hit this season so he’s earned that money this year. It’s almost negligible when it gets paid/caphit as yes the Oilers couldn’t have afforded it this year, but if not they wouldn’t be hand cuffed with dead cap next year in win now mode that the player so for has Been a disappointment.

We’re at the point where his game should be getting back to his normal baseline, which was in the past a very good two-way middle 6 winger. It’s pretty standard for a player to take half a season to get his game back after that type of injury. He’s showing signs of life at least.

So predictable.
Your posting history on this player is abundantly clear.
Absolutely no point in trying to engage in an objective conversation with you.

Carry on with your agenda. :thumbu:

Absolutely.
Refreshing to hear that there are posters out there that are actually pulling for the player (and his road back to being a solid middle 6 player) instead of taking delight in highlighting his struggles.
