Where do you think McDavid goes in free agency? My money is on:

Boston
New York (Rangers)
LA
Toronto

I really doubt he’d sign anywhere other than these 4.
I don't get the feeling he's going to care about market size, he wants the damn Cup. He's going to go to a team with a strong defensive foundation where him coming up vaults them all the way over the top. And I don't mean a team with a strong offensive punch from the blue line, I'm talking a team that knows how to keep the puck out of their own net.

Carolina
Buffalo
Boston
Tampa

Those are a few I can think of right off the bat where him coming in would immediately push them over the top

McDavid lacks leadership. He’s a point machine but does NOTHING to improve those around him. In fact, present day evidence points towards him actually having a negative effect on the team. The best thing Oilers could do is trade McD, but their fans and leadership are of course too short sighted to see this.

Countless players have had career years playing with McDavid but he does nothing to improve his teammates. Make it make sense.

McDavid going to the Canes and winning a cup there would be a spike to the heart of every Oiler fan

But I'd be happy for him, Canes are a great team, albeit playoff chokers, but a great team.

If he’s going to Cup chase, it will be via trade on his current contract. He’s never going to sign with a small market team, no matter how their roster is constructed - there’s too much money on the table for a player like him in the big markets.

Firing the coach won't do anything. If the organization knew this was Holland's last year, they should have brought someone else in. An outgoing terrible GM should not be making big decisions.

They can't do a thing to turn this around. And they will lose an entire generation of fans if McDavid goes.

I just got it: Gardiner MacDougall. Guy has the Midas touch.

One of the winningest coaches in the history of Canadian University Sports history, with eight National Championships, two World University Games Championships, eleven Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Titles, and fifteen AUS Pennants.

In 2022 asked to take over as coach of Saint John Seadogs right as they start the Memorial Cup and delivers the championship.

Go outside the box!

No worries, just do another tank rebuild like HF always suggests. We seen how well it worked for the Oilers, Sabres, Coyotes.

This is an El Oh El
You think they're gonna be contenders with this current roster, or GM/Coach in place ? All they're doing is wasting prime McDavid years and just gradually lowering his trade value. McDavid with term left is worth a kings ransom.

Maybe they're playing for another #1 draft pick?

Right now anyone trying to claim McDavid doesn't improve his teammates has the IQ of a piece of wood. The fact he is struggling and the entire offense of the Oilers is struggling and they cannot win any games without him dominating only proves how much he does improve his teammates.

I don’t think Woodcroft is the issue, but his “I can’t believe this shit” look as SJ won was gold.

Yep. And if you look at the teams ahead of them for that first wild card -- ANA, STL, AZ, SEA, MIN, CHI, NSH, CGY -- I'd say Minnesota is the only team there that's actually good. Maybe Seattle, maybe not. And EDM would need to finish #2 out of those teams which is not a huge ask, esp since a few of those teams are in their division.

Put a different way, at the moment they're 8 points back with 70 games to go. 70. Seems far too early to even think about writing these guys off
It's math those teams all play each other always 2 points award sometimes 3 among that bunch.

A couple of those teams will get in the 90's in terms of points

To make the playoffs Oilers have to go 18-20 games over .500.

But the overriding reason why the Oilers won't make playoffs is I don't think they they can replicate their powerplay percentage from last year. It was lethal and hid all kinds of warts.

Now if they get back to that 30 percent level I will believe they will finish the year 20 games over .500 and get in.

Indeed. And at the same time, I remember too well that team with Stoll, Hemsky, Smith, Pisani, Brewer, Pronger etc that knocked my Red Wings out in the first round. They had less skill than these two guys combined but really a big heart.

Any sane person NEVER considered this Oilers team as contenders.

Vegas did….
