That old, slow, useless cap dump has 10 points, is + 2, and has 40 PIM in 14 games since Nov 1.

Extrapolated over 82 games, that's 59 points, + 12, and 234 PIM - or one of the best power forward seasons in recent memory.

Weirdly timed, OP. Weirdly. Timed.

It doesn't really work to take a players best 10-15 games of the year, and extrapolate it over a whole season. You will find most players will have pretty great numbers when you do that.

Lucic is a solid player right now, and could really help a team short term, but he will be a 30-40 point guy at $6 mil in year or 2. That will be a tough trade for the Oilers to make.

You sound confident.

Would you bet your house on that?

Dude, it is a public hockey forum. I am allowed an opinion, as are you.

Yes, I am confident that as he gets into his 30's he will drop 10-15 points in production, as he will likely be replaced on McDavid's line.

He's barely played on McDavid's line as it is, so nothing would change.

Lucic and McDavid don't play together very often at all even strength wise, I'd guess Lucic has spent about 85% of his time as an Oiler stapled next to RNH. Though both McDavid and Lucic are regulars on the 1st powerplay unit.

Even if he was producing at a lower pace than this, Lucic is a rare type of player and most teams would have some interest in bringing him in without retention. We might not get the player we need back to make it worthwhile, and Chiarelli probably has no interest in moving him anyway, but GM's respect this type of player more than fans do.

He's only played maybe 10 games over the past two years on Mcdavid's line.

Please don't bet anything. You have no idea what you are talking about. You are right about your opinion though.

Backes AND Beleskey for Lucic!

Solid deal eh... lol what a terrible UFA season that was. Everyone knew it, but the teams had holes and "needed" to fill them (ie Van, Bos, Edm). Best part is the three GM's are all from the Cup winning Bruins 2011 team. Not sure what that means but Im damn glad I got to see my team hoist the cup that year.

Where did you get your information that he doesn't want to play in the East, my understanding of the final 3 when he was settling on a location were Edmonton, Vancouver, and Montreal. Edmonton was the winner primarily cause of the McDavid factor & his connection to Chia. While playing closer to home for him is a bonus, he always seemed to say the two biggest reasons were McDavid and Chia.

So, now might be the best time to try to trade him, but he still will be hard to move with that contract.
