What about swapping bad conrtracts with assets on the returning side, such as Marc Staal, and Tony D for lucic no salary retained

I'd think they'd pass. They don't need Staal, and while getting rid of Lucic's contract may seem like a positive, is severely hurts their offense, which is already lacking a bit after losing Eberle.

Why would the Rangers be adding to a Staal-Lucic trade with the extra years on Lucic's deal and higher cap hit?

Because they would be getting the clear better player this deal, Oilers get the worse player for less years, while Rangers get the better for longer

It is time that the Oilers move away from Lucic. He is not the old Lucic they wanted ..... he has slowed down. He still has upside but just Not a good fit with the Oilers.

Would rather use that $6 million salary else where.

So that being said ..... What team would take him?? And what could the Oilers get in return??

How much are they retaining and what will they add to make someone take him?

I would think Vegas might take him if the Oilers retain 50% and add an asset or two. With no retention it might be hard pull off. Maybe with the Oilers 2018 1st they would consider it.

Agreed. He's not amazing, but he's still a solid top line winger. His contract isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Didn't he have a slow start last year too?
He did have a slow start last year yeah, and his even strength production is up heavily this year which was what a lot of people complained about from him last year.

He will always be a player that gets crapped on regardless because of his contract. His play does not seem to be deteriorating in anyway, but people will watch him fumble pucks and make a few bad passes because thats just who he's always been as a player and they'll crap all over him. Yes he's probably making a million too much given the term that he got, but thats what happens in UFA. At the end of the day you can crap all over him, but he just keeps on chugging along putting up ~20G 50P 200hits seasons while being one of the better fighters in the league.

Despite all that HF would have you believe that he's a useless player who is falling off a cliff (still waiting to see him fall off this cliff).

TL DR: Contracts a bit too much and a bit too long, but he's still a very effective player.

I'd be 100% okay with the caphit, I just think the term was 2 years too many. I'd gladly bring him in if the Flames could make it work. He and Tkachuk on a line together would be fun to watch.

Yeah I'd definitely agree. I'm sure Calgary would prefer him over the Brouwer contract right now.

On a side note, the 2 posts prior to you are prime examples of what I was talking about in my post. This board is just hilarious.

The term is the only issue I'd have with him on Calgary. With Backlund and others needing raises in the next few years, his contract would complicate things. Otherwise I'd gladly swap him with Brouwer. I suspect Brouwer gets bought out this offseason or next if he can't get things going.

I would drive Brouwer to Edmonton myself if the Flames could trade him straight across for Lucic

When dealing 2 players with negative values, the shorter the term the better.

Yeah thats definitely a concern, although I'm not sure if it would be impossible if the talk about the cap rising to 80-82M next season are true. Mike Smith would be off the books by the time Tkachuk needs a raise I believe, or he could get a bridge.

You'd think Lucic was on pace for 10 points this year the way people talk about him on HF. Bad contract (like most UFA's) but he's not a bad player.

If Lucic is traded. You will need to get someone that can replace the 50 points. Oilers can't get rid of players than can put up points without getting one back. Especially Oilers already got rid of Eberle 50 points already

talk to the Sabres.

Okposo for Lucic

or

Moulson + prospect( not Mittelestadt. Fasching, or someone like that) for Lucic.

No way EDM does it. It would be admitting that they made a mistake with the Lucic contract. Would be tough for BUF to carry Okposo and Lucic's contract around in the final four years...

Especially when the longer term comes with a bigger cap hit.

Lucic isn't just a better player than Marc Staal. He's a significantly better player than Marc Staal. When the comparison is slow, but productive legit top 6 forward vs bottom pairing defenceman, you shouldn't be talking about comparable salaries.

Posts like this make me feel bad I'm an Oiler fan.

Lucic has been solid this year and last year, if not as amazing as we all hoped... he has been solid. He signed short of 35 I believe and 6 mill don't get you much these days. He is far from the problem in Edmonton and trading him away would absolutely make our team worse. Especially if GMs actually devalue him as much as many on these boards do.

Eriksson basically brings what Lucic brings offensively except will do jack s*** for you in the playoffs, less physical, and stands a little more straight ......
