Proposal: Oilers need to trade Lucic

How about moving Lucic for a comparable point producer. Perhaps a team like Toronto could use his leadership while Oilers could get some speed back. Lucic has same stats as a guy like Nylander although hasn’t had benefit of playing with Mathews, so that’s concerning. I would probably do Nylander straight up for Lucic.

Maybe Oilers would be interested in a struggling Marner and a small add for Lucic??

No one on the Oilers can get Nylander or Marner 1 for 1 except the Wonderboy. And no, Drai the Leech can't , he's a passenger.

Predictable responses in this thread. Looch has been fine as far as I'm concerned. As previously mentioned, he'll do some frustrating things with the puck (fumble, force passes), but now that he's playing with McDavid it seems to be less of a concern (handles it less than when he played with Nuge).

He's got a heavy wrister and reads a goalie quite well (he sneaks a lot of 5 hole goals waiting for a goalie to make the first move). He just needs to accept a role similar to Tomas Holmstrom when it comes to handling the puck (usually didn't carry it more than 10 seconds per game).

If he plays within his abilities he should continue being a 20+ goal, 50+ point player. That's a 6 million dollar player when you're talking UFA's.

The last sentence is an example of your hockey knowledge rolled into one ignorant, Homer centric sentence. Draisaitl is worth more the. Either of those guys. Lucic however isn't close.

Would cost Edmonton an unprotected 1st. Yes, the contract is that bad.

How much are they retaining and what will they add to make someone take him?

I would think Vegas might take him if the Oilers retain 50% and add an asset or two. With no retention it might be hard pull off. Maybe with the Oilers 2018 1st they would consider it.

The Oilers would not be retaining 50% . You are not signing a player as good as Lucic for 3,000,000.00 a season .

Doesn't Nylander play with Matthews? and that's fine, we dont need any undersized 4th liners anyways, so not interested in marner

It is time that the Oilers move away from Lucic. He is not the old Lucic they wanted ..... he has slowed down. He still has upside but just Not a good fit with the Oilers.

Would rather use that $6 million salary else where.

So that being said ..... What team would take him?? And what could the Oilers get in return??
Oilers may have to give up asset to get somebody to take his contract

As a Kings fan, I am thankful Dean Lombardi couldn't meet Lucic's contract demands.

When will GMs get it through their thick heads that long-time contracts for players approaching 30 years of age, especially forwards, is a bad idea?

No team is going to willingly take on that contract burden without a significant plus coming with Lucic. Or the Oilers get lucky and find a situation similar to how the Leafs managed to dump Clarkson for nothing

The Lucic signing was bad, he's overpriced for what he provides, he's worth roughly $4.25M in my eyes, though the name of the game when signing UFA's is overpayment, most higher end UFA's get overpaid by atleast $1M per year, in this case I'd say Lucic is overpaid by roughly $1.75M. Though I don't understand why people act like Lucic is the worst contract under the sun or prior comparisons of him to David Clarkson, he's substantially better then that and does provide some useful elements to a team. Four high priced UFA wingers were signed that off-season in Loui Eriksson, Andrew Ladd, Kyle Okposo, and Milan Lucic; IMO Lucic has shown to be the best value of that bunch.

All that said I think people severely underestimate the Old Boys club mentality of highly coveting toughness, size, and that physical intimidation element someone like Lucic can provide; if Lucic was willing to be traded and the Oilers were willing to retain as little as $1M in salary I think there would be multiple teams that would come nibbling.

Silly thread imo. Yes he's overpaid and is definitely not aesthetically please to watch on the ice at times, but he's still effective and puts up top line numbers.

How this contract looks in a couple years is another question, but the Oilers will cross that bridge when/if they have to

Lucic is overpaid, as is pretty much every UFA. Lucic is still a useful player though. I think he is actually skating better and playing more consistent then last season. He has shown no sign of injury issues and seems to take good care of himself, rarely misses any games. I don't think he is a concern for now. He doesn't turn 30 until June. In three years from now who knows.

A thread started by some Oiler fan no one has heard of ends up being manna for anti-Oiler/Lucic trolls.

Color me surprised.

Won't happen. He's a Chiarelli guy. No point in even talking about it really, he has a NMC, Chia loves him, Looch is gonna be an Oiler for a long time to come. Cue Oiler fans insulting him and spreading rumors about his personal life for the next four years.
