You have to be somewhat good in the first place to get Salo’ed out.
But thats not really the case is it? Skinner is our #1 goalie largely due to org incompetence and just being better than whoever we had in minors. Typical due dilligence of the org regarding one of the most important spots in team sports.

Who was Skinner really made to beat here? The org handed him the keys and always have. Like he's the made guy.

You only need 4 on a lot of nights if you have the worst goaltending in the league. We have scored 4 goals in 5 of 14 games

We needed the following goals score to win the game in all 14
7
6
5
4
3
5
4
1
4
7
2
3
4
4

We would need 4.21 goals per game, we add another goal every game to our current what do we win? One more game?

Goaltending fine folks
But being outscored by San Jose Sharks is? There is no goaltending that gives a team averaging barely over 2 goals a game a winning record. You can’t even begin to talk about goaltending at this point because the goaltending required to win in this league at the rate we are scoring does not exist. We are middle of the pack in goals against per game and at the very bottom in goals for.

We can easily outscore our problems right now. Vegas is literally doing exactly that.

Skinners team can't even f***ing score goals. Is he suppose to be Patrick Roy every night?

He's barely been playing well enough this season, what are you talking about? Lol. Pickard's been outplaying him and he's not a good goalie either. I don't expect Skinner to be a prime Roy or Hasek, but he's playing way below the standard of a NHL #1 goalie.
Pickard has been just as bad. He was awful last game

I mean he's not going to be Patrick Roy on any night unless it's like the game of the year for him, lol.

Again he is what he is at this point, a back up/1B goalie who hasn't improved on really any aspect of his game in about 3 years here. Still moves like the Titanic laterally, still will always been the first goalie to blink in a tight game, horribad GSAA numbers, etc. etc.

That's fine for a back up I guess.

Obviously our offense is shit for the last stretch, but we are still supressing high danger chances well, if there was going to be growth in Skinner's game it should be showing now.

Not trying to pile on him but I find it so bizarre how long of a rope Skinner has gotten.

Meanwhile every other young forward/dman gets very little rope to work with.

It’s bizarre to me.

No Oiler fan in their right mind expects Skinner to be Roy out there. But he is playing 2nd best compared to the opponents goalies majority of the season so far, that's the main problem.

Oilers goalies are 88.5% and 88.6%... those are decent numbers in 1985 but now... not so much.

They are definitely part of the problem no matter how much people point out that the team can't score and can't PK and can't score on the PP either.

When everything is shit at the same time... you are going to likely have MANY problem players on the team and you can point the finger at basically everyone needing to be better.

Hill won a Stanley Cup and probably should have won the Conn Smythe (we were dummying Broissoit in that series and were probably on our way to win it until Hill came in) ... Salo never did anything meaningful in the NHL. Overrated.
Yeah so Hill can get Salo’ed. Skinner will just get Conklin’ed.

Not sure if you guys are understanding my post lol.

Charmed life. Not every player can toss their golden GQ locks around like that. ;)

Skinner is a schmooze. He wins favor. Dig a bit and all his career its been like that. Brossoit was like that too. It was uncanny Vegas were starting Brossoit over others until he got injured. Some guys are just more popular in a room. Thats life. Adin Hill better in every way but it didn't land his way until the injury.

*not so tin foil hat moment* it's because admitting Skinner isn't doing well is an indictment on teflon man Schwartzy

When Mike Smith hired his own goalie coach to work with over the summer rather than having to work with Schwartz, you know that's already a red flag. He even made Koskinen aka a big fricken dude look small in net. I have absolutely no idea what Schwartz has on the organization for him not to be axed at this point. His precious golden child in Tristan Jarry is in the minors right now since he can't make saves in the NHL for Pittsburgh.

The Oilers are going to have to do some home work and get a 3rd goalie in here as insurance at some point.

Any one of the low cost options even

McKenzie Blackwood
Nedelkojvic
Blomqvist
Talbot
Vejelmeka
Lyon
Ingram
Ersson
Rittich (lol)
Thompson
Dostal (probably not available)

65th and 43rd in GSAA on a team that allows some of the fewest high danger chances against is horrendous on Skinner and Pickard's behalf.

Doesn't matter who the goalies are when we have shitbrain overlord Dustin Schwartz teaching them. If the Oilers were smart, they'd try to hire goalie whisperer coach in Ian Clarke right now.

Just got home from the game. And sorry in advance for the pessimistic post.

Team has zero heart, zero jam, zero intensity. Couple that with spotty goaltending, a coach who doesn’t value physicality, seemingly a sense of entitlement a mile wide and too many players who look more like they have aged out over the summer than buckled down to take another run and you’ve got the 24-25 Oilers.

A wildcard spot will be the goal at the rate this sad sack bunch is going right now.

Skinner wasn’t supposed to be the starter. Holland f***ed up big time with Campbell.

The notion that scoring is easy in the NHL is the quickest way to die in the deep end. Far too often Oilers are overplaying the puck, individual effots trying to go through everybody. We may re running games a lot of the time but some teams are just looking for counters on us. All they're looking for and all they have to do.

Get an odd man break against Oilers with Skinner in net and its buttclench everytime. Seems like we've been seeing it for years.

When the team plays flawlessly and doesn't give up an odd man rush all game, or give up passes across Skinner is fine. But thats not at all realistic in 82 game seasons.

Ryan looks like a tractor that has seen one too many harvests.

I know that Lavoie has looked poor in the AHL season thus far but a few posters here suggested that having Lavoie as the 13th forward might make sense when inevitably, Ryan would need to recharge for a few games.

Agree that Philp and Caggiula both look better than Ryan--who has been a good soldier-- but is struggling out there.
You have to know when to let go. This is a results based business. Players are paid millions. Expectations are high and rightfully so

Let's be real here though, no way those guys get the same opportunities / minutes here. They'd be buried with the rest of the non-Country Club members.
Henrique: 12:11 ES per game vs McLeod: 13:41 ES per game
Arvidsson: 14:08 ES per game vs Foegele: 12:28 ES per game
Skinner: 13:38 ES per game vs Holloway: 12:50 ES per game

Arvidsson, Skinner and Holloway are all on their teams 2nd unit PP. They all kill penalties except for Skinner.

Our guys are just playing like shit. There's no difference in opportunity/minutes to produce.
