Just got home from the game. And sorry in advance for the pessimistic post.

Team has zero heart, zero jam, zero intensity. Couple that with spotty goaltending, a coach who doesn’t value physicality, seemingly a sense of entitlement a mile wide and too many players who look more like they have aged out over the summer than buckled down to take another run and you’ve got the 24-25 Oilers.

A wildcard spot will be the goal at the rate this sad sack bunch is going right now.

Your post is more positive than most on here lol. More positive than mine anyway.

Florida has .895 save% between their goalies and is 9-3-1

LA’s goalies have a combined .890 save % and they are 8-3-3.

Vegas goalies also a combined .890 save % and are 9-3-3

Vancouvers goalies are rocking a .891 save % and they are 6-2-3

Score some freaking goals and if we are still losing games 5-4 and 6-5 I’ll crap on the goaltending all day. Until then just score some god damned goals. The one goal for in game 7 was bad enough that sucked us into this vortex of offensive ineptitude.

His drafting sucks and we do t even have a first for him this year. He might honestly be worse than Chiarelli.

They're both shit. Sucks that we had to hire 2 shitters while having two of the best players in the world on the team. Now we have fricken Bowman and I'm supposed to have hope or faith that he'll be the guy to turn the mess around? Good grief. Never understood the signing of Bowman from day 1 to now.

When the team plays flawlessly and doesn't give up an odd man rush all game, or give up passes across Skinner is fine. But thats not at all realistic in 82 game seasons.
Right now we’re relying on skinner to play flawlessly more so than we need him to. It’s not realistic to win in the nhl scoring 2 goals a game.

Years later I don't really care.

At some point Skinner landed with the plum gig, and he actually has gotten a bit better. But not good enough to stick in a starters position on pretty much any other club.
And yet the team around him is scoring at rates that would make the Minnesota Wild blush.

Hey, speaking of the Wild, their goalie has as many goals as: RNH, Arvidsson, Henrique, Janmark, Brown and more than Nurse, Podz, Stecher, and Emberson. Woooo!

It's quite simple, he's a friend to the OBC. Easy hire, no effort.

f*** me, we were looking at Bill Zito before we hired Holland.

This excuse is just getting sad.
What excuse? Skinner was thrust into a role he wasn't ready for because the guy our awesome GM signed was pathetic.

Makes me personally wonder who we also looked at before they hired Bowman.
Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Anyways, I'm off to bed fellas. Gotta take the fiancee for a checkup tomorrow. No jokes here @Cloned you bastard haha. Good night.

Fair point but 3 of those clubs have rosters that are hand selected to be 200ft clubs and the other one is a quick pace club that pressures reasonably well all over ice with a mix of young legs. We don't have that on this roster and we will get picked and give up counters/ odd man rushes. Certainly more with J Skinner and random Arvid around. Combined with whatever random D the org could find in the bargain basement bin to *complete* our D pairs.

Oilers are kind of bent over because their roster including D isn't exactly setup as solid and so we need a goalie in net who can make some big stops.

In anycase 3 of the other teams have better management, org planning, and have all Won SC's by puttting quality clubs together out of nowhere. None of them were gifted a McD.

You have to know when to let go. This is a results based business. Players are paid millions. Expectations are high and rightfully so

This org is far too 'nice' to some players, for some reason.

Let’s be real here this roster shouldn’t be the 3rd lowest scoring team in the nhl. There’s no scenario where that should be the case. The San Jose Sharks should not be scoring more goals than us.

Hate to say it cause I like Knoblauch but if he refuses to hold players unaccountable for giving up on plays and won’t change the offensive and PP system the league has had scouting on how to defend (barring a superhuman play by Connor and Leon) for a year now, maybe we need a change.

Look at our goals tonight. Hyman scores on one of the craziest bounces ever on a rimmed puck.

Brett Kulak tips a puck in.

We scored 2 goals that will not happen again this year or maybe ever and that’s all we could muster. Lightning in a bottle. We haven’t scored on a normal hockey play in how long?

Yeah he’s had a poor season but he played well enough to win tonight.
Eh... the opposing goalie was clearly better (as usually happens). If it wasn't for a magical gift bounce... Hyman would have never scored and Kulak will probably not tip the puck perfectly like that in another 100 games. Hill was probably unlucky to not get a shutout in that game... or 1 goal against at most.

What’s wrong with McDavid?

He’s way way off this year. Doesn’t have that magic 4th gear, bobbling the puck like it’s a grenade, not shooting, his otherworldly anticipation on the PP is broken. I think he’s playing tight and frustrated too.

I also think teams just know how to defend him now too and they make him skate through a gauntlet and it must be exhausting.

Maybe they need to send him off to a tropical island for a month of rest. Without Lauren.

That has virtually nothing to do with what I'd stated. A large subset of NHL goals are scored through airtight defending and turning puck back up ice. Proverbial defense leading to offense, you know this. Trouble is our D transition game is pure shit. But with our roster even predictably. Theres Ekholm who's good at it and nobody else.

We transition puck poorly from back end. On a night like this what that results in is Vegas having so much time to get back that 4 Knights are on McD as he enters zone.

Really lets call a spade a spade. Other than McD and Drai no forward has been dangerous on this club all season with some credit to Hyman and Skinner but not a drop from much of the rest. It was overestimated how much of a scoring roster this was. I'm not being revisionist on this either. Was saying this in offseason.

Yeah but this happens every year with every supporting cast we’ve ever gave them. McLeod had what one goal in the first 14 games or something last year? Remember Ryan Strome? We literally traded him over this exact scenario. We’ve changed out the top 6 wingers and bottom 6 forwards and it’s the same result virtually every year.
