Leafs and Edmonton will not win with their current cores. If they do, I’ll delete my account.

Would not want to face them early in the playoffs. Mcdavid can really tilt the game.

This team is a tough one to figure out…

So awful early on. And now a complete 180 they simply won’t lose. They have incredible top end talent….but the depth still looks awful on paper compared to other contenders. Specifically the bottom 6 and the Dcore beyond the Ek/Bouchard pairing.

I suppose some of these guys must be exceeding expectations and performing better than the average neutral fan like myself might assume just seeing the names on paper and not watching all their games. But will it last/is it sustainable? Can we really expect the role players/rest of the roster outside of McDrai/RNH/Hyman/Ek/Bouchard to keep up this caliber of performance??

IMO despite this current streak I just can’t see them making a deep playoff run and getting to the SCF unless they add at least one more legit middle 6 forward and possibly another depth defenseman too.
Lol sure sure. You obviously don't watch them at all. Keep on overlooking them, let's see what they do lol

what do you dislike about the bottom 6? It's pretty loaded IMO

The defense is okay too tbh

4th line looks ok to me. 3rd line I would want more if it were my team. Not out of the question either if you can add at the TDL which I’m sure they will be. But as is to say that bottom 6 is “loaded” is simply not true. McLeod is the only player I see producing anything near 3rd line #s with 19 pts in 44 games. Pretty solid. But after that I mean you’re looking at a bunch of guys with 9 pts, 8 pts, etc. 4th line type of production.

I just think at forward the team relies a bit too much on the top 6 to produce. An upgrade to the 3rd line would help BIG TIME when the playoffs roll around.

I see your point, our bottom six is good but not great. Holloway is pretty underrated and same with McLeod plus we added Perry but if we want to beat Vegas or Colorado we're going to need another game breaker in the bottom of our lineup.

Sam gagner and cory Perry are both around half a point a game players

Kane & Foegle have seen a lot of time in the bottom 6 as well. Gagner is producing and now they've added Perry to the mix. McLeod has been lights out for the last 25 games and Holloway is breaking in. Then you add Ryan, Brown and Janmark who have given them really good PK performances

I think they've built out a pretty good bottom 6 given how top heavy the roster is salary wise. I think they could fit another scorer but Perry already pushed Gagner out of the lineup who has 10 pts in 22 games. If i was Edmonton i'd target Fleury and maybe un upgrade on D before i'd look at another forward

ughhhh.

Leafs fan whining about reffing. Shocked I tells ya! I'm shocked!

The NHL is a horribly officiated League, there's no biases to their garbage reffing, the shit spreads evenly.

The ironic thing about these detractors of the streak is they keep saying that the streak is meaningless because it is against bad teams, but I thought the Oilers were a bad team, that would be nothing without McDrai?

So which one is it? are the Oilers a very good team beating up on bad teams, or are the Oilers a bad team beating other bad teams? Because if it is the latter, it IS an impressive streak as the Oilers are beating teams of their caliber. And If it's the former, then people have to admit that the Oilers are a very good team and a Stanley Cup contender.

You guys can't have it both ways....
that shut em up ! 😉

Colorado is no where near the team they were when they won the cup a few years ago. They lost their depth and macKinnon basically has to put up 10 points a game so the team wins. they are back to being a one line team. Vegas though is still the solid team top to bottom From last year.

Wait wait hold up. Holllld up.

Something is glitchy. Columbus beat the blues. Sharks beat the Kraken, who are desperate for points

Thats not supposed to happen when you play weak teams. What's going on?

It’s ok to be wrong.

When looking at the records of the 16 teams that make up the Oiler's streak only 5 had winning records over their past 5 games before losing to the Oilers.
They were mostly bad/mediocre teams that were currently playing badly.

And the jets lost to the leafs.

Beating bad teams isn’t always a guarantee

If you dig that hole any deeper desperately looking for anything, you might reach China.

That's a bit of a stretch. Gagner hasn't hit .5PPG since 2017, and Perry has done it once or twice since then.

Kane and Foegele are in the top six forward scorers. After that it's McLeod (good). Then the 8th, 9th, and 10th scorers all have ten points or less.

That is relatively low. A team with good depth scoring will have a couple third liners (ranks 7, 8, 9) with 20 or so points at this point in the season (examples: Vancouver, Winnipeg, Detroit, Columbus). Average depth scoring team will have guys in those ranks with 15+ points. There are some contenders like the Avs and Bolts that have comparably weak depth scoring to the Oilers, but they'll fix that at the deadline. The Oilers have to as well.

If your point is that the Oilers had an easier schedule, and that 16-game win streaks aren't a real approximation of a team's ability - wow, you got us there, buddy. In 106 years of the NHL, it's only happened for two other teams.

The idea that this is some kind of gotcha is pretty dumb, though. These bad teams have beaten good teams. Columbus is 1-0-1 against Vancouver in the last two weeks, Detroit has beaten Vegas and Florida in the last couple weeks. Nashville beat Dallas twice in January. Montreal beat Colorado the game after they lost to the Oilers. Philadelphia was 6-1-1 immediately following the loss to Edmonton. I'm sure there are examples with every single one of these.

Since Toronto has one of the most difficult remaining schedules, that means they've had a pretty easy start to the year, no? Surely they don't have losses to Chicago (x2), Buffalo (x2), Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Detroit, NYI (x2)? Weren't they supposed to be free wins?
