Anybody see the list of teams they beat on this streak. lol! Back to normal when they play some playoff caliber teams after the all star break. The nhl couldn’t have laid out an easier schedule for them.
I know, right? A team like the Habs is a guaranteed win for any halfway decent NHL team.

Ruh-roh.

Holland acquired Kane, Hyman , Ekholm, promoted Skinner. Hired Knobber.
Went toe to toe with Stanley Cup winners in 2022 and 2023.
His Oilers are a Stanley Cup contender and have won 16 straight games. A perfect month of January.
If he did that in Toronto he would have a statue, keys to the city, and the books would be going to print as we speak.
We have higher standards than Leaf fans. We have experienced success.

Not going to get high and mighty over the 16 games winning streak or the bad start. Over an 82 game season things have away of balancing out. I will wait to see how they do against the heavy weights, like Vegas, Avs and a few others.

I respect this streak as another one of the greatest in history. And yes I'm a huge Oil fan... but guess what? Me neither! I don't give a shit about the streak except now that they're close to beating it, I hope they do. Then they can focus on getting ready for playoffs.

This bullshit from a lot of posters is so childish. And to OP - why did you change the title? This used to be a thread to discuss how this team roared back into contention, not a pissing contest with insecure Canuck fans. Jesus. I remember cheering the Blues on when they came from no where a few years ago.

This is funny
But probably true!

Wow. It's like 3am. Party's over bud.
Boy are you late

Playing Toronto was probably our easiest game of the streak, honestly. Only team that really folded over and got dominated to that extent.

The shift where we scored the GWG by pinning Matthews & Marner in and exposing their terrible defensive play sums up the issues with your team pretty well.
You keep making my point.
I agree Leafs played crappy in front of their third string goalie, along with three terrible missed calls on Edmonton in the third, they managed to beat the struggling Leafs.
This is what this streak is made of a soft schedule against mediocre/struggling teams...it's fools gold.

You haven't made a single point in this thread that is backed up by factual or critical thinking. I know penalties and phantom calls are your typical go-to excuse but they're the lamentations of a loser. Kind of like Marner who constantly is out there on the ice playing referee and begging for imaginary calls.

The only reason the Leafs didn't get destroyed by the Oilers was because Jones was solid. The rest of your team was exposed as the pretenders they are due to Matthews and Marner refusing to be defensively responsible, getting constantly hemmed in their own zone for extended periods of time and the rest of your roster being comprised of either overpaid or dead weight.

Nothing you say, nothing you ignorantly profess takes away from the incredible 16 game win streak the Oilers are on. It's hilarious to hear a fan of a team that constantly struggles against numerous teams desperately attempt to downplay it though. You're so jealous and bothered. It's kinda cute but it's also obvious you haven't watched a single second of an Oilers game and fail to understand why they are full value for the streak they're on.

The only fools gold is you trying to shoehorn in /struggling to cope. Just call a spade a spade and a mediocre team a mediocre team.

Wow the Oiler downfall thread was over 4000 posts. What a ride that was.

@zar reminded me of an overly emotional post I made in there. Gladly eating crow.
I’m sure most of us Oiler fans were in shock in how this season started and were over-reacting.

It’s a reminder to stay humble during the good times because you never know when it turns. This team has a tough (compacted) scheduled moving forward, so the streak is great but expectations need to be in check.

Just read/skimmed about 75% of that thread. It very much epitomizes HF boards in one thread. It actually was interesting to see the trends reading it all at once. Watching the volume of activity each day, the presence/absence of certain fanbases (both sides of the fence), the reactions, bold predictions, the trolls… it’s seriously worthy of a thesis on fan base behaviours. It would be great to have a time lapse graphic of each poster and fan base as they move in/out of that thread with a daily volume tracker. 😂😂😂

I provided reactions to a few posters. 😉

Eckholm Hyman Kane have been big additions to the Oilers. Big shot from Bouchard. They better be careful they don't win the presidents trophy though that thing is cursed.
Well if you look at the numbers finishing 2nd over all same odds and per centages. 3rd , 4th , 5th and so on.
But yea, positioning only matters for seeding. It means nothing as far as odds on who goes all the way. First place included.

ughhhh.

Leafs fan whining about reffing. Shocked I tells ya! I'm shocked!

The NHL is a horribly officiated League, there's no biases to their garbage reffing, the shit spreads evenly.

The ironic thing about these detractors of the streak is they keep saying that the streak is meaningless because it is against bad teams, but I thought the Oilers were a bad team, that would be nothing without McDrai?

So which one is it? are the Oilers a very good team beating up on bad teams, or are the Oilers a bad team beating other bad teams? Because if it is the latter, it IS an impressive streak as the Oilers are beating teams of their caliber. And If it's the former, then people have to admit that the Oilers are a very good team and a Stanley Cup contender.

You guys can't have it both ways....

Pretty incredible roller coaster to follow. I remember some Oilers fans doomposting on their own boards about how they had an irreparably broken team, while now taking a confident saunter and displaying their blue and orange feathers like a peacock.

But that's totally fine in my book, and goes to show how emotionally invested we get as fans. Credit where credit is due, the team is white hot and I wouldn't want to be the team that draws them in the first round.

Even when they were 2-9-1, I had zero doubts they were going to be a playoff team, I think most Oilers fans still thought they would eventually come back and be a playoff team, I think what fans were most disappointed about is that the team was still displaying the same problems they have had season after season that have been talked about over and over again that never seemed like they would ever be able to fix. Depth, goaltending, defensive play. This was supposed to be a season they try to compete for the Cup. Even if they started the season 18-2 but McDavid and Draisaitl were scoring 2-3 points a game, the support players were struggling and the team was still making the same horrific defensive errors and getting questionable goaltending at key times in games and winning every game 5-4, most fans would not have been that impressed with the team. Its been an amazing turnaround for wins but honestly the improvement in the their play is far more impressive and surprising. I think most Oilers fans at the start of the season began to think that this team was simply not even capable of ever playing the type of game they have been for the past 27 games. People keep talking about the streak but I don't think Oilers fans are excited by the streak, they are more excited by how the team is playing.
