I don't believe that.

They pretty clearly picked Girardi over Stralman. They were both hitting UFA that summer. They were able to sign Girardi midseason and then they stopped talking to Stralman. Then Stralman had that incredible playoffs and outplayed the offer the Rangers made. The rest is history.

They were going to get Boyle either way. That was their top target/Sather man crush that summer.

Basically it's this. Stralman got a $3M at 3 Years as an offer. At that time Stralman was tertiary to the Callahan and Girardi contracts.

The Stamkos injury happened but MSL trade request didn't play out.

There was a two month period, where the Rangers brass, were tied up in:

Callahan Contract Talks
Girardi Contract Talks
MSL Trade

Stralman.

Not saying that it was okay, but the Rangers brass stretched themselves too thin, and dropped the ball at the crucial time when Stralman should have been a greater priority.

That is to say- wouldn't x number of hits in a game hurt a 161 lbser (current listed weight) more than it would a 180 lbser, times 82 games? And he will get hit, a lot. More here than on international ice.

Holy hell just let it go already.

Yeah, I was pissed off as anyone about it but it's one of those things where it's just so far in the past there's no point even getting upset about it. They ****ed up. A lot of us knew it at the time. Everyone knows it now. Just move forward and correct the mistakes.

Exactly my point. Thanks

Yep. I absolutely agreed with your post. It would be great to have Stralman but it is what it is.

Part of the reason I don't sit here and ponder on the past is because nothing can be done about it. We can only sit contemplate the present and thus far Gorton has done a good job.

Holy hell just let it go already.

Or we can go with RKY's route.

Get me Shattenkirk for Zucc and we are back in the Eastern Conference Final with shot at going for the Cup. Book it

Seeing Yakupov potentially being available had me thinking of a Klein + something swap for Yakupov + something assuming Oilers would go for it...but then we'd just have too many forwards and too few quality d-men, plus a + of an Oesterle isn't all that helpful anyhow.

LW: Nash, Buch, Kreider, Vesey,
C: Stepan, Zibby, Hayes, Jooris, Lindberg
RW: Zuccs, Yakupov, Fast, Miller, Grabner

Still...that depth... :naughty: That's a first, second, and two third lines.

We can go on and on.

What if Chery never died?
What if we re-signed Jagr?
What if the Del Zotto-Stamkos trade actually happened?
What if we traded an actual player in 2010 instead of McIlrath?
What if Sauer did not get that concussion?
What if Staal was traded at the deadline and we kept Hagelin?

Ifs and buts make your brain go nuts

This is the biggest What-If for the Rangers, IMO. He could have been huge for the Rangers.

The last thing we should be doing right now is swapping defense for offense.

What if we never traded Callahan, and he took a trip into the Adirondacks during last seasons' all-star break. Unbeknownst to him, he was bitten by a rare mutant mosquito. The symptoms lay dormant, but then one day on the team plane...

BAM

Zombie Callahan. He bites off Hank's face. He spares only Girardi and Staal.

Does this still creep me the **** out? Yes. Yes it does.

What if we assigned a nutritionist to Dube?

What if we'd fired Smith prior to 1997-98?

I think the Rangers will be trading Zuccarello and Nash at some point in the next year. That said, it should not be for a guy 1 year away from UFA and a huge payday like Shattenkirk. The Brassard trade is the template to what management is thinking, and Im all for it.

What if the Rangers veterans weren't #$^#@ to Gordie Howe?
What if Syl Apps Jr is never traded for Glen Sather?
What if Ratelle doesn't break his leg?
What if Moose Dupont is never traded?
What if The Cat went with Villemure in the 72 Finals?
What if JP Parise never scores that goal?
What if the Garden Ice wasn't trash?
What if Potvin never injured Nilson?
What if Middleton wasn't traded for Hodge and was on the 79 squad?
What if Ferguson drafts Bossy and not Deblious?
What if the Ridley/Miller for Carpenter trade never goes down?
What if Espo was able to trade for Gretzky?
What if Leetch doesn't break his ankle in Toronto before the 1990 playoffs?
What if Richter doesn't get hurt in 1991 for over a month and Smith never makes the Miller/Kocur deal?
What if Smith would have left things alone after 94?

I can go on for quite a while longer. Two of these questions I have answers for though.

#1 What if in the history of the Rangers: What if JD gets hot in 81 instead of 79 and beats the Islanders THAT year? I am beyond 100% confident that Rangers team would have beat up Minnesota and steamrolled them in the Finals.

#2 What if the Ken Morrow goal never happens and let's say Miko Lethonnen(sp) doesn't hit the crossbar? Nothing. That Rangers team would have had problems with Washington in round two and if they got past them there is no way they beat Montreal in the ECF or Edmonton in the SCF.

Lirl. Alright we have gotten way to far off track in this thread as hilarious as it has become.

Anyone want to take a guess on the next move we make whenever it may be?

One of the RFA defensemen by training camp.

Or Shattenkirk with an extension shortly following.

This. They need to keep with the plan that's well underway.
