Jamie Benn with his standard reckless, intent-to-injure hit

I used to be a big fan of Benn but the only highlights I see of him these days are him doing dirtbag stuff. It’s like he’s trying too hard to stay relevant.

Lmao he has ~140 points over his last two seasons while playing his physical game per usual. Has more points the last two years than Marchand and plenty of other “relevant” players. Just say you only watch games from your team …. It’s ok.

You’re right. Last game of his I saw was against my team. I like physical hockey but cross check to the lower back like what started this tilt is a dirtbag play.

It's a boarding penalty and not even anywhere close to beeing a bad example of one. This really doesn't need a thread.

Intent to injure hit? Silliness. Carlo put himself in a bad spot by pulling up where he did. Benn was not going for a boarding there. He's a big strong dude who got surprised by Carlo's controller breaking.

They were going for the puck and Carlo thought he could just stop there 5 feet from the boards and take the hit. He couldn't. Not much Benn could do.

The thread title could have just said Jamie Benn and everyone would have known what it was about.

I'm not trying to defend Benn, but I've always found post like this odd. He's been suspended once, and it was a dirty play on Stone. The Larkin cross check was also dirty, but other then those he's had his big hits, but he's always answered for them. Maybe there's other I can't remember.

I also grew up watching hockey in the 90's, so maybe that's why I don't get why people think he's so dirty.

It would be pretty funny to see alot of people's reaction on here if they watched hockey back in the day lol

okay but if I'm benn there I expect carlo to get against the boards and receive the hit, guy just stopped and stuck his ass out, genuinely, what is benn supposed to do here? physics exist, he has no time to do anything

Benn did nothing wrong here. The expectation was for Carlo to go to the boards and brace to be bumped. Instead Carlo sees Benn coming and stupidly decides to stop and try to interfere with him.

Benn has a well deserved reputation for dirty play, but honestly I don't see much wrong here. He didn't extend his arms or anything. It's just a big guy powering through a defender who stopped short trying to slow him up.

Carlo is a big strong defender who probably isn't used to guys being able to throw him aside like that. 9 times out of 10, he probably gets away with stopping short like that. But he's gotta be aware that there are still a few top 6 guys out there who have the power to run him over (Benn, B Tkachuk, Wilson, Bennett etc)

If there was any malicious intent, Benn would've buckled Carlo in that position and drove right through him. It's unfortunate that Carlo got hurt but hockey is a contact sport
