What if Lucic goes UFA and the Ducks sign him? Their #1 need is a first line LW. That would suck.

Well, Lindholm needs a contract, as does Rakell. After that, I'm guessing they will have about 8M or so in cap space and will need to replace Perron, Stewart, McGinn, Horcoff, and Santorelli. Pirri is also RFA, and they need a backup goalie.

Even if they were a cap team, they would have to move someone to make Lucic an offer. It's more likely they sign Lindholm and Rakell, and maybe bring up Ritchie and buy a couple cheap journeyman UFAs. They could possibly save some $$$ if they think Theodore is ready and move out Stoner or Despres, but I don't know if they will want to mess with their D much after last year.

Internal cap and they still have to sign Rakell & Lindholm, they wouldn't be able to afford Lucic.

Unless they move Fowler, though it is popular belief that they would get back a player of equal or greater value financially.

With Lecavalier off books, #LAKings move up to $5.55M in estimated cap space (11F/7D/1G). #Flyers up to $12.75M (9F/5D/3G).

Keep in mind, this is with the cap at $71.4M

That number for the Kings is way too low. I have $7,344,773 in cap space with 11 forwards, 6 defensemen, 1 goalie, and Richards. And that's with a $71.4 million cap. The one extra d-man they're including is Gravel I'm guessing and his cap hit is only $667,500 which would then make the cap space $6,677,273.

Edit: Capfriendly also has them at $6,677,273 in cap space including Gravel.

are they using different cap numbers? General Fanager has it at &71.4M. Maybe Cap Friednly has it hat 73M?

I wouldn't be shocked if LA ends up with guys like Purcell and Schultz as plan b to Lucic.

Id be ok with a reclamation project on defense if he could be had for cheap. Schultz was surprisingly sturdy in the playoffs for Pitt..acquiring a guy like him for pennies on the dollar would be a steal

Nope. They both seem to be using the same number, maybe one has overage penalties that we don't yet know about? :help:

EDIT: I see where they are different one has $22,117,500 for defense and the other has $20,992,500 (cap friendly seems to have the correct math, maybe general fanager assumes bonuses or something)

I keep forgetting about Perron. I wonder what his cost would be? He's a bit of an ass but he can produce and fit into the system.

Wasn't LA interested at the deadline? I wonder if it wouldn't be all that bad to use Lucic's money on lesser lights to fill more needs.

Yes they were and I was very scared he was going to end up a King. I hope LA stays the hell away from Schultz. He is worse defensively then Ehrhoff.

I would rather have both Forbort and Gravel in the top 6 than Schultz.

I thought he was solid in the PO for Pitt. Pretty sheltered minutes tho admittedly.

I am all for giving the kids a chance. I don't care for the dmen available out there. Yandle made sense but he is very unlikely to come to LA.

Trading Pearson or Kempe for a good young dman is not a palatable proposition.

Pittsburgh somehow made all their d-men look good. I thought Lovejoy looked great but reading the Penguins' fan boards, they don't want him back at all.

Schultz was a healthy scratch for the pens and would have stayed that way if it weren't for injuries.

If he was willing to take $900K a year than sure what they hell.

Yeah I agree with letting the kids play, but we still need one more defenseman in the top 4. No thanks to Schultz, I'd rather gamble on Lovejoy. Ideally we get Demers, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Just going through the list of UFA again from the main boards. Didn't realize Loui Eriksson is UFA.

How come there isn't more FA noise on this guy?

I'm not opposed to the idea but only as depth--don't need the next Christian Ehrhoff unless he can be pushed out of the lineup easily

Quick flat out hates Perron...not that that matters all that much.

I'm sure he'd be thrilled to not have to FACE him anymore though

He's on every top FA list I have seen. Would be a great Lucic replacement. In fact he is a proven Lucic replacement haha

I met Vinnie and Luke Schenn over the All Star break at a restaurant in LA and both were super nice. Met both their wives. Really classy guy, Vinnie. Sharp dresser. Had a swag about him, but not cocky, but really cool. We all know hockey players are nice, but sometimes the star players are not as approachable as the 3rd or 4th liners. Vinnie looked like a 1st liner but was as nice as a 4th liner.

Also heard Mathew Barnaby say this morning that Vinnie had swag, but was great to everyone in the room and always in top shape.

Would have to liked to see what he could have done in a full season here.

Ladd isn't going to be significantly cheaper then Lucic.

Schultz would be a good pick up on a 1-2 year contract. Give him some ice time, see if he can learn how to play defense, and flip at the deadline.

Ducks seem like they might be a decent fit for Lucic. It's the cap that's the issue. Ana does looks to be making moves after last years playoffs. Clearing enough cap to offer Lucic a contract wouldn't surprise me.

Don't think any of the above actually matters as it won't make the Kings a contender.

No, they're clearing room to sign their own RFA's and UFA's.
