I agree but hurry up with Lucic and move on to the next plan if he doesn't want to sign.

the next plan will be UFA d-men or maybe a trade but first the cap needs to be announced officially before anything can be closed off on Lucic.

So still why the rush?

just enjoy the deals leading up to the draft.

Starting to think if LA can grab Brian Campbell on a one year deal it may not be a bad idea. Yandle will sign with FLA. Campbell is 37 but is still a very solid veteran d-man with a ring and might be a good mentor for Gravel, McNabb, etc.

Didn't Campbell say he'll sign a 1-2 year deal but he's not taking a discount though? Thought I read he was looking for $5 million a year.

I think you can kind of get by that if you do an incentive laden contract...if there is anyone who can get creative on a contract like that...it's Dean.

You can run

Doughty-Muzzin
Campbell-Martinez
McNabb-Gravel/Greene/etc.

Good mix of vets and kids there.

Give him 24 hours on the best and final and just move on if he's not interested. No point in waiting around if he's gonna walk. Hope DL didn't put all his eggs in one basket and at least has a back up plan. LA can't afford to be observers this go around.

If Lucic doesn't sign. A back plan could be to try and sign Ladd. They could get him for probably a little less and he would probably sign for 3 or 4 years which fits LA's term. Also Ladd said he doesnt want to go to another rebuilding team, wants to win another cup. Then sign Demers or Hamhuis.

Highly doubt they can afford both. Only will have around $7-8 million in cap space.

Ladd would be a great fit for this team. Brings a lot of intangibles, scores points like Lucic but the big difference to me is he can play the PK. I would think he's a natural Plan B if the Kings lose Lucic.

Wasn't a big producer on either team he was on that won the Cup. In Carolina, it was his rookie year, so, ok. In 2009, Chicago got to the 3rd round, he finished 14th on the team in playoff scoring. In 2010, also finished 14th. Then the two times he's been counted on more, with the Jets in 2015, and this year with the Hawks, he's got 1 goal and 3 points in 11 combined games. If they're not going to spend that money to keep Lucic, why bother with Ladd?

Playoffs:
Lucic - 101GP, 26G, 64Pts(.634)
King - 69GP, 10G, 25Pts(.362)
Lewis - 75GP, 11G, 23Pts(.307)
Clifford - 51GP, 4G, 15Pts(.294)
Ladd - 64GP, 9G, 18Pts(.281)

Unless we're talking $3m or so, can't say Ladd does much for me. Not in crunch time at least.

So you want Ladd to take a 1.5 million dollar drop in pay to play in LA? I hope you're not an agent. 18 points in 64 playoff games is a red flag, especially on more offensive hockey teams than LA. He made 4.5 million last season, so I'd expect at least 5 on the open market, which would reportedly be less than what Lucic is looking for. Bad playoff stats aside his all around game and 2:00 averaged on the PK last season would fit in LA, IMO. If you can't get Lucic you go after Ladd.

I would give lucic my best offer asap and say take it or we trade your rights I am sure we can get a 4th maybe a 3rd for them Get something for him

As I recall, during the media call last week, Dean said the offer they planned to make this week was gonna be about as much as they could do. (Implied, not exact words)

I feel they could easily sign Lucic today. Either the Kings don't want to go past 3 years because they're having Brown flashbacks or they want the flexibility the year Doughty is up for a new contract. The Kings have the cap space to sign Lucic. If either Doughty or downturn are the hold up, what would be different with Ladd?

More likely the hold up is the wing is the last position the Kings need to fill. It would be nice to upgrade to Lucic over Brown, but getting out of that contract is going to take an act of god or a "fishing trip". I'd rather pick up D or deal with the center depth over the wing. The Kings have no one, on the team or in the minors, to adequately fill that 2nd RHD position and need to fill the 3C position.

Lombardi is going to need to pull something out of his *** to fill both the 2nd pair and deal with the 3C in a year he doesn't even have a first round pick. At this point if Lucic is signed it almost means Lombardi failed to get what he needed so he just went with what he had.

Brown for Boychuk?

7/7/6.5/6/4/4 total 34.5M until 2022
7/6.5/5.5/5.5/4/4 total 32.5M until 2022

Guess which contract is which? Boychuk is 10 months older then Brown.

Boychuk may have a NMC next 3 years, which may complicate things. NYI does need a RW to replace Okposo.

lol Brown doesn't replace Okposo. He doesn't even replace Matt Martin for them.

If I had money riding on it, I'd be the biggest Ladd fan there is. But as a fan, meh. If the Kings didn't already have Brown at $6m, and/or Gaborik at $5m, ok, maybe go for Ladd if Lucic leaves. There's just too much money in the wingers, and Toffoli still has to be signed next summer. Even if Lucic stays, something will have to give somewhere. Trading Pearson now, hoping Gaborik retires after next season, buying Brown out at some point even though the longer you wait the less short term benefit the team gets, etc.

I'm not really pro-Ladd, so yeah, if he would take $3m, climb aboard. If he wants $5m+, why do that? Re-sign Lewis if the Kings need a PKer, and hope Pearson and Gaborik can hit 20+ goals.

Brown does not replace Okposo, also Boychuk is still earning his pay

Lecavalier will be making his formal retirement announcement today. His stay wasn't very long here but I'm glad we got to see Vinny show that he still had something to offer towards the end of his career.
