If the article is to believed, Malkin wants to be "the guy." He's not going to be the guy in Chicago (not that Chicago could afford 3 $9-10 million players anyways). Would he be the guy in LA? Not if Sutter is around.

Just thought of this, but with Pittsburgh not having very much cap space at all, they might let Schultz walk. Do you think Lombardi try signing him this offseason? He was shown to be serviceable these playoffs, and is one of the few RH d men who are available at all.

What? You think the Penguins are going to trade one of the top 5 or 8 best players in the NHL in Malkin to the Kings and get a cap dump of Brown in return in the package? That will never happen in a million years no matter how you spin it. Brown's cap hit is $6 million a year until 2022. Pens will never take that trade even if Carter is coming back at a reasonable cap hit.

If you want to make a serious offer to the Pens for Malkin it looks more like this: Toffoli, Kempe, 2017 1st (and that might not be good enough either). Or its something like Pearson, Carter, 2017 1st. As much as I would like Malkin on this team, I would not be willing to make either trade, which only gets the conversation started.

Kessel (money retained)
Biggs
Erixon

for
Kapanen
Spaling
Harrington
3rd round pick.

Sometimes when the market is very small you don't get what you want. Malkin has a NMC and so the size of the market depends 100% on Malkin. Now a trade like that would only happen if the team really wants to move him. In Kessels case TO needed to be the worst team in the league.

If the Pens wanted to go a different direction bad enough, that would be about all I'd offer up from the Kings. Really not that interested in giving up cheap assets for a $9.5M player. Maybe there are other teams on his list that are.

What is interesting though is the thought of using Carter to move Brown. Kings would have to sign a center to replace Carter, but they may need to find a replacement for Carter in the near future anyways.

Kings were interested in him along with Purcell at the deadline too.

i'm sure we'll take a look at him but he seemed thrilled to be in Pitt and I'm sure others will offer more cash than we'd be comfortable with after seeing what he did in a depth role

Anyone got a good scouting report on Nakladal? Could be a cheaper RHD option. But I don't think he is top 4 ready. So I don't think I would take him as he we have enough D-men battling for bottom pairing minutes.

Big shot, decent size. IQ/Instinct not super strong but a decent bottom pairing guy who can also see some 2nd unit pp time.

To get Malkin here think Toffoli and Martinez. Toffoli is young and a sniper and will make 6 mil a year, and Martinez is an awesome vet on D they need. I love Malkin but we need our depth guys.

No way Malkin gets some outrageous package. The guy's a china doll, averaging 3/4 of a season for the last 7 years. I can't see the Kings going for someone so unreliable at 30.

Maybe something like Carter+Toffoli with a good young cheap winger coming back with Malkin. Pens are not in the drivers seat.

Getting smoked by them at home on my birthday in Game 2 of last season was good enough.

Not sure that opening in SJ is confirmed as the Kings were to be the opponent if they were hanging a SC banner, much like how the league trolled SJ for the Kings 2015 home opener. Now that SJ lost and is still just SJ, it might not be the Kings now.

If Lucic somehow gets signed, first shift he clobber Couture for the low bridge hit from last seasons opener .

The Kings already have a China doll in Gaborik. I'll take Carter and his two way game over Malkin any day, no matter if he can put up 40 plus a year. Carters cap hit alone makes him worth keeping.

Didn't the 3rd become a 1st? Kapanen is nothing to sneeze at as far as prospect go. Probably has value over Kempe.

Considering Toronto was selling low on Kessel and would be trading Malkin after a cup run Malkin would cost substantially more.

Malkin is a pretty solid 2 way centre no?

I am 100% opposed to bringing Malkin in and doubt Pittsburgh moves him after a cup win

so if that was the cost of Kessel at a low point what woudl the cost be for Malkin after a cup win? Too much for LA.

Although Cap Friendly does have the pens over the cap.

I could see the ducks moving Getzlaf for Malkin. With them bringing in Carlye and Getz public hatred of him, it could make sense.

Would be a massive massive deal

Perry supposedly not a fan either.

I would think Pittsburgh would look to get multiple cheaper pieces back even if the money winds up being a wash.

Mark your calendars for Sept. 23.

I wonder how much of the roster will change between now and then.

And FYI, the World Cup of Hockey tournament will start on Sept. 17 and run through Oct. 1.

Kopitar (Europe), Gaborik (Europe), Carter (Canada), Doughty (Canada) and Quick (USA) will be representing the Kings.

Hearing the #LAKings and Milan Lucic have picked up talks again. Nothing imminent. Described as "ongoing."

Didn't expect this, still don't think he comes back, but who knows.

Muzzin is also on team Canada

I was thinking about this the other day, it will force Sutter/DL to take longer looks at some of the kids and force them into bigger rolls in preseason, could be a good thing.

Nothing will get signed until the salary cap gets finalized. Lots of waiting ahead.
