I was surprised we did not see more Schultz once it was very apparent that Ehrhoff was not going to work out. Should have seen more Forbort/Gravel.

Thought it was a huge mistake calling up Dowd with 7ish games left in the season. Should've called him up with 25 games left in the season or sooner once it was apparent Shore was not an option to play every day. There was zero chance Dowd was going to get into a playoff game with 3-4 regular season NHL games under his belt.

Agree on Forbort/Gravel. Gravel, especially. Guy looked pretty good, makes one mistake that wasn't really his mistake, and then he's benched for the rest of the season.

Neither are ready for expanded roles in the NHL. Forbort/Gravel are fringe NHL defenders. 5/6/7 defenders at best.

They need more time sadly, especially on a roster trying to win Cups. The Kings need a legit Veteran #3/4 Defender to round out the group, and push McNabb down the roster.

Legit, veteran 3C, 3/4 Defender, Top six forward, that's what the Kings need. Lombardi has a lot of work ahead of him.

If Forbort needs more time, then he's never going to make it in the NHL. The guy has been in the AHL for ****ing ages now, its time to make the jump. It couldn't hurt Gravel to simmer in Ontario some more, but I think he's ready. You could even argue he's more ready than Forbort. That 3/4 D spot definitely needs to be filled in the offseason or we're ****ed.

Forbort has 3 seasons in the AHL. Guess how many seasons Voynov spent in the AHL? Three and a half+ seasons.

Voynov actually showed progress while in the A, while Forbort continues to stagnate. With the cap situation the way it is, we might just see a Forbort/Gravel bottom pairing to control the cost.

If we can't sign Lucic which doesn't look good right now according to the Mayor, Would Troy Brouwer be a good cheaper option?

I'd pass on Brouwer. Think he doubled his playoff goal total with this year's run. If he wants to sign for $3-3.5 million then sure, I'll take him. $4 million or more, I'll pass.

I agree but it wouldn't have hurt to see what they had last season. Especially since they decided to not try and win the final 15 games anyways.

The top UFA wingers this year are:

Milan Lucic
Andrew Ladd
Loui Eriksson
Troy Brouwer
Kyle Okposo
Jiri Hudler
Radim Vrbata
Shane Doan
Kris Versteeg
Lee Stempniak
Alex Tanguay
Teddy Purcell
David Perron
David Jones
Michael Grabner
Jamie McGinn
Shawn Matthias
Jason Chimera
Tomas Fleischmann
PA Parenteau
Chris Stewart
Dale Weise
Matt Martin
Jiri Tlusty
Patrick Eaves

Lot of marginal top six forwards who may likely top out at around 40 points at best, more third line options are available but the Kings have enough of those.

Exactly. If the Kings don't have the money for Lucic, they don't have the money for another top end UFA wing.

Then what's the point of signing a depth UFA guy when the Kings have lots of options for the 3rd line already on the team?

I like Versteeg but I think Brouwer fits better has the size and seems to be a better goal scorer.

Brouwer fits 'our game' better but I hope we're trying to speed up a bit. Versteeg has shown he can play the possession game and has the JWIll shiftiness (and he got hurt blocking a shot, Sutter has to love that!)

That being said that's a crapload of wingers being UFA at a salary crunch time, someone is gonna get got cheap

Wonder if Grabner's speed would help. Also like Stempniak.

Been mentioning Grabner for a while. He PK'ed on the Islanders I think too because of all that speed. Coming off a poor season so maybe his price will be low. But he's another 3rd liner to go along with Brown and King which would force one of the three into the top 6.

Voynov started in the AHL as an 18 year old. Voynov was already a key member of two cup winning teams at Forbort's age. Voynov enabled the Kings to trade a pretty good defenseman in Jack Johnson, Forbort can't even beat out McNabb or Scuderi.

Six years after being drafted the Kings should have more to show for from that pick.

Just for info.

Kopitar will play for Slovenia in Olympics qualifications between 1.9. and 4.9. in Minsk (Belarus) After that tournament he will fly to America to join World Cup Europa Team.

As it is possible to read from his words, he already have allowance from LA Kings.

Forbort's highest ceiling at this point is prime Scuderi, ironically.

And Scuderi made it as a regular in the NHL 7 years after being drafted. One of those years was the 04-05 lockout, but still, his first action in the league was 6 years after being drafted, and he played in 13 games. Forbort got into 14 games this season, 6 years after being drafted.

Scuderi was taken 134th, but at this point, if Forbort ends up like Scuderi, it won't have been a completely wasted pick.

Pretty much Lucic or Ladd, Okposo is a right wing and all 3 are gonna get paid big money. Market is bare, teams need players, guys get paid, no discounts, bad for the players, bad for the agents, good for the owners.

Lucic, Ladd or Eriksson would be nice. If not able to get one of those than we go dumpster diving looking for a cheap player on a 1 year deal.
