It's a shame the way it's all timed out. Even the 2nd Cup was won on Brown's previous contract. So since his big contract kicked in, the Kings have next to nothing to show for it, even on an individual player basis. Had the new contract been signed after the 2014 season, instead of the 2013 season, who knows how different it is. Maybe it's shorter. Maybe it's a smaller hit. Maybe it doesn't exist at all.
Brown will have a weird legacy with the Kings. First guy to touch the Cup as a King, and then did it again. Community guy, all that. He also had the captaincy taken away, and most likely has no way of ever living up to his current contract. That contract will also cost the Kings one way or another until it's done.
You know Brown has to feel that pressure. It's like Luongo saying his contract sucks when he wasn't being traded. Every eye is on Brown, with or without the C. Everyone, including himself, knows his cap hit, and knows barely 10 goals and under 30 points isn't enough. Everyone knows it's costing the Kings either the ability to bring a player in, or keep a player aboard. It's not his fault, someone offered him a crap load of money and he took it. Just like Kopitar, or Lucic, or anyone else, he doesn't owe it to the organization, his teammates, or fans to take less. The cap isn't Brown's problem, but you know he's got to feel it.
