The organization needs to have a proactive position not just drop the needle on the record player and hope for the best.
I think proactive is using a recording and not subject some unfortunate amateur singer to getting booed while they are trying to sing.

I don't think the average fan gives a hoot about who they're playing besides maybe London.
Fair statement. The hard core fans do. The average fan, no.

Tickets for tonight continue to sell. This will likely be the best attended game in 5 years. Saturday looks pretty good too but nothing close to tonight.

DD is gonna be pretty happy when he gets the receipts for this weekend.

added .... they are even talking about the sellout on news reports on CKTB this morning. This will start to catch the attention of locals who are only marginally interested in the Dogs as the place to be. Good.

I said it on the other board last year and in the summer and may have here early on in the season DDD may be an idiot that people don’t like but if the team plays well enough the casuals will start to come back slowly and attendances will look better (especially with football over) the hardcore fans are a different story

I agree Dogs777. For many people the IceDogs are just a form of entertainment and its far more fun when the team is good.

Personal anecdote: I ran into a business acquaintance recently and they know I am a STH. I saw them at 1 or 2 games a long time ago. Not a big hockey fan. They said that they heard the team is good again and they had tickets for a game next month.

Is nice to see more people coming to the games but on the other hand I really hope DD sells the team so maybe the bigger crowds aren’t good. I think this franchise is doomed if he doesn’t sell it soon. Under DD, the team will never return to the level they were at when the Burke’s owned the team.

For the long term success, this franchise requires new ownership. A few large crowds will only mean DD loses a little less money than he did would otherwise and not some remarkable change in his approach to running (or is ruining) a franchise. Careful what you wish wish for DD is a low budget operator that I can assure you will never change.

Also, can anyone confirm or deny this…is this unusually large crowd tonight a one off because of an 1100 religious group in attendance?

Its easier to sell a profitable company.

Big crowds would put the value back up.

Who says he is losing money?

All these assumptions about how he financed the purchase, the current income statement etc.. All pure guesses if you ask me.

Losing money. Let’s see how long he can hang in there for. Big crowds only help him a little bit at this point but does not help the franchise or fans long term.

it is unusual for such a large group to come to the game...and believe me when I say, they are not paying full pop or anywhere near for their tickets

Back during the glory years, the Burkes were selling to school groups for as low as $2. It was done to fill the place and help with the home ice advantage and sell beer and popcorn.
