Anything more than 4 is an overpayment for Lucic, IMO. This contract will take him well past his prime. Don't be dumb, Dean. If he wants 6ish, let him go.

I get the feeling he'll pull a Gaborik or something.

I like Lucic and would love him back but we have a much more pressing concern but I have to believe DL has a plan to address it if he's going to sign Looch.

He's a backup on a 1 year contract, who cares what he thinks.

But I agree to a certain extent, Sutter always rides his #1 too hard and Enroth was for the most part solid.

As for Lucic, I'm more worried about term than salary. No more than 5 years please, preferably less.

Good to hear the news on Lucic.

Sucks that Vinny doesn't want to stick around.

It is nice with all the contracts up this year, that they have Brown signed to such a team friendly cap hit until 2022.

Edit: Any news on how much Schenn is looking for?

I have a feeling Enroth is just mad because he was lied to. Didn't Sutter say before the season he planned on starting Quick 65 games?

I love the old Lucic, I am very worried about the aging Lucic. There was no fire, no passion, no scoring from him all playoffs. he is slowing down and has a ton of hard mileage on his body. He is not feared like he once was and the refs seemed to neuter the Kings bully style and take the Nastyness out of the game.

Combine this with watching similar power forwards like Brown, Ryan Smyth, Clarkson, etc regress very sharply and without warning I think signing Lucic anything over 3 years is extremely risky. He is UFA and some team will throw money at him, I just don't want it to be us.

and I still like the Lucic trade. It was a great gamble, the whole team literally **** the bed these last 3 weeks.

Whats the consensus on Versteeg? Is he coming back, if so how much?

He is a great fit for the Sutter game and the Kings top 9, I hope he comes back. He's been bouncing around his whole career, maybe the Kings could give him 2-3 years at his usual cap hit.

Lucic opens up a lot of space for his linemates. I think fans fall in love with stats, you're not going to see the big numbers when it comes to points but I firmly believe Kopitar's big season was due in part to Lucic being on the ice creating havoc and intimidating the opposition. Losing Lucic would be a big blow to the immediate future of the Kings.

Anyone else who watched Lucic a lot before this season think his hands got pretty bad? He used to dangle and skate through defenders in the East. This season he couldn't skate by stationary players standing at center ice.

And why did he shoot so few times this season?

Since when is Lewis dead weight? I understand the cap concerns but eagerly anticipating his exit is baffling. He's done everything asked of him and more. He's the type of bottom 6 player you win with.

well with the lucic quote i think we will resign him and end up trading Pearson for a right handed top 4 defenseman. Yes i know that's not going to be popular but it's the only piece we have available. I see Michael Mersch as a lock to make the roster. Which gives us 5 lw plus gaborik and brown and lewis capable of playing the left side. I would prefer to trade King but to be honest as long as sutter is coach i have to think hes going no where. Also King doesn't hold much value league wide at least hf broads wide lol believe me i have tried lol

Meh. I can't say I love the idea of giving Lucic a long term contract. If he takes a big discount, fine but I don't expect him to. We already have a handful of big contracts taking players into their 30s.

He sucked in the playoffs, but so did most of our players. I also am not a fan of the dumb penalties he takes.

I wholeheartedly agree. But even as a fan of his and the of space he opens up, I'm concerned about the money/term.

I don't think anyone thinks he's truly dead weight but there's no way we can afford what some other team will pay for his tenacity, experience. He's easily getting a pay raise on the open market and there's no way the Kings can afford to pay lewis 2.5-3 million without other moves and even then...

Also lol at Doughty jabbing at Couture, we're not that good of friends anyway, i'm closer w/Perry, we just go to the same gym and that's it

These two high school kids man.

The only other point I will make about Lucic, with the unfortunate passing of his dad, moving his family across the country and getting used to new teammates and system maybe his off season trading was compromised. He looked gassed in the final few weeks, was not heading for the net etc.

I think the addition of Mersch to help establish a front of net presence on another line would aid Lucic and the team as well.

I have noted my concerns with Lucic above. The length of the contract if signed scares me more than the cap hit.

As for Lewis I loved his tenacity and will power but I would let him go and let youth take over mixed with a little more skill. No need to pay huge money for a 4th line talent. A team like the Oilers would be smart to grab Lewis. They have an over abundance of skill and need a winner like Lewis in there lineup.

Yeah watching Mersch in front of the net for Ontario is just marvelous. It's something we don't see much of the nHL these days, he's truly Ryan Smyth old school about it, I want him to be successful so badly but he's just sooooo slow and has a hard time getting into the play at this level. That being said, below the circles? He's an NHLer through and through. Just needs to continue to work on his explosiveness imo.
