GDT: Offseason game thread

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Unfortunately due to where I live I am unable to see many Kings games or Ontario games live. Would Mersch be able to take over King spot in the lineup? King is not the most fleet of foot and it would save us about $1 million on the between the two different contracts. I like King more than others but I think there are places we can save money without sacrificing a lot of talent.

That's why Budaj at $600,000 will be good enough next year. Quick after these playoffs will come back with a huge chip on his shoulder and I think it'll take everything Sutter has to yank him out of the net on a game to game basis. Quick likes a large workload. To save $900,000 on a backup goalie compared to last year will be huge. As for Enroth he really sucked in his last few starts. Maybe Lombardi will bring back the Professor. He played well in our system.
 
I like Lucic well enough. I just think he's going to want too much for too long.

Enroth was solid for all of two games. After that every time he got put in he got lit up.
 
I didn't think Enroth was as bad as you guys are saying, I remember a few times he started the team played like utter garbage in front of him, he was very solid.
I'm gonna miss Vinny, definitely my favorite story of this year, I'm sure the Kings will be playing there in Tampa the night he gets his jersey retired.
 
I don't blame Enroth I even hate that Sutter rides Quick that much. Keep him fresh you idiot. Quick stunk it up too it's either he isn't that great of a goalie or he was tired. Either way we could have gotten a big haul for Quick and still contended with Jones. Or we keep contending with Quick I'm fine with either one. But Quick is overrated by many Kings fans.

I hope King, Clifford, Lewis, Scuderi are gone. Clifford for 1.6 mil is just dumb, he's a smushed brain who only brings intensity. Dowd and Mersch can provide that and much better also. Let some youngsters play.

Is it to early to see if Voynov can come back ? Varlamov beat his wife too and he's still enjoying the NHL. I for one think Voynov is a ****in ***** and an idiot for what he did but she's still with him and we sorely miss him. He is a #1 caliber defenseman .

Lucic had a 55 point season and brought leadership and intensity into the lineup. He hits like a freight train and many more goals were scored with him in front of he net.

Why any of you hate the fact of him coming back is beyond me. He didn't show up in the playoffs ? Guess what Kopitar, Doughty, Toffoli, Carter, Quick didn't also.
 
Lucic was easily one of the top two wingers on the Kings. Him and Toffoli were the most productive wingers on the roster, everyone else produced like crap. He should be back, but only if it is at a reasonable cap hit that doesn't prevent the team from making further improvements to the roster.

Losing Lucic would be a massive blow to an already soft ass team.

He also spent the entire year turning the puck over coming out of our zone, took dumb/selfish penalties, was a no show in the playoffs, and I have major concerns about him wearing down considering the type of game he has played. I wasn't a fan of the initial trade due to our cap situation, his UFA status, and his style of game taking a toll

Voynov's issue is his visa, not whether the league would allow him back. He has a criminal record now so he may not even be allowed back in the country.
 
I think Deano's top target will definitely be a 2nd pairing right handed dman. He did attempt to trade for Byfuglien from Winnipeg before they came to an agreement on an extension. I'm sure he'll actively be shopping to fill that major hole that ****stain Voynov left behind.

Yup. Definitely needs to be priority #1. The issue is what it will cost.

If Dean is successful in pulling that off, Doughty and Muzzin can be reunited (and they should stick together), Martinez and the new RHD can occupy the 2nd pairing, and hopefully Gravel and a healthy and repaired Matt Greene can complete the 3rd pairing.

That'll leave McNabb (if he's still around), Forbort and possibly Scuderi if he isn't retired as the 7th and/or 8th options on D.

That is the depth this squad was missing this season. Having to find replacements for Mitchell, Voynov and Regehr was tough enough, but then losing Matt Greene for just about the entire season and Martinez to the last month of hockey just about killed the team. Can't have that happen again.
 
I think Demers would be a good pick-up; probably going to be a pricey UFA though.

Quick looked so bad that series because there were three defensemen who could be on the ice at any time that he couldn't trust. We're stuck with Scuderi and McNabb so we might as well get rid of Schenn.
