GDT: Offseason game thread

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. i'd retain Schenn (if we trade somehow manage to trade away McNabb/Scuderi/Greene)

and i'd retain Enroth

but with the way Quick has been playing the past 3 years, I wouldn't mind going the ANA, DAL, DET, OTT, PHI, SJ, STL route of having two #1A goalies that can have on/off moments during the year rather than a clear cut #1 and a clear cut backup goalie

Regardless, if DL doesn't give us a top 6 forward and a top 4 D, it'll be another incredibly disappointing campaign

if any of you think colin miller would have ever played for the kings you are wrong. stop bringing him up... he was a rhd that lombardi fleeced sweeny into thinking he was going to be more than mcbain. if he plays (not 7th d scratch) more than 41 games i'll eat the hat i'm not wearing. overrated and undersized.

I don't think he suggested trading Quick, but rather have him share the starting job with Enroth, or whomever we sign.

Regardless, this idea won't fly. Quick has been the clear cut #1 goalie on the team for too long and won too many big games to suddenly have him sit for half the season.

did i ever say trade Quick?

i think it's your own idiocy and failure to comprehend what people are trying to say, mixed with your quickness to judge that is keeping you off these boards

and i hope you stay away as far as possible

i'll explain to those that have the IQ of an 8 year old

1 bad year of Quick is a hiccup
2 bad years and we start finding excuses for him
3 bad years and it's a pattern

at this point, Quick is a 1A

so therefore, instead of hiring a genuine backup i.e. Enroth, Budaj

it would be wise to hire an experienced (possibly former #1 goalie) to handle some of the load

Quick can't play out of position acrobatic splits style for 65-75 games a year + playoffs

we need to lessen the load for his own sake; give him 55-60 games a year

and let a guy like a Hiller, Ward, Reimer, and co handle some 20-25 games (and i just named names i don't want to hear you say Ward is too expensive, Hiller isn't available blablabla - i'm just naming you examples!)

the Dallas model is intelligent, i understand that it backfired but they weren't anticipating Lehtonen to play this poorly, no one did

but knowing that these former #1s were on a decline, there is strength in numbers and having Niemi & Lehtonen was an intelligent move despite the contracts

If Hiller can't find a job, it would be nice to have him @ 2m - 3m

but again, people are very unusually blind to how poorly QUick has played since his surgery

just getting rid of Lucic, McNabb, and Schenn is 226PIMS less!

just reducing our PPGAs would be huge!

i'm fine with keeping Schenn though

Your crusade against Quick over the years has been pretty amusing. Why do you want to waste perfectly good cap to acquire a washout like Hiller? Oh and btw, the 1A 1B thing hasn't worked for anyone.

but all i suggested is help

Sutter overplays Quick

just like he overplays Doughty


he really did not trust Enroth, so give him a goalie that he'll trust so that Quick doesn't play 70+ games a year

is this too ''out there'' of an idea?
 
and i never said ********** Quick mind you, it's just the topic that is the most sensitive for you guys, he's an untouchable and when you criticize an untouchable, expect to get burned

my crusade is against McNabb, McBain, Greene, Schultz and i have been very vocal about our D, but no one destroys me about this topic though

you guys are a bunch of cherry pickers

I'm open to give Lucic another chance. Just letting him walk for what we gave up is gonna hurt. Bad! We can use whatever talent he brings than opening up another hole by looking elsewhere which again may not even work out. They may even be worse than Looch.

Looking back the last few years we let a lot of people just walk. Some were necessary. Some were forced. We never got anything back for the departures of Voynov, Williams, Richards, Mitchell and, Stoll! None. Zip. Nada. Not even a parting gift. It actually still is costing us cap wise for Richards. This is how a mighty Empire gets crumbled in around 700 days!
 
I believe the whole point of Enroth was to give Quick some time off, but Enroth went from solid for a few games to garbage.
 
The issue with the backup goalie is that he can't take up too much space on the cap. Not when cap space is such an issue for the team. Bartosak, another guy that screwed things up.

There's no easy road for the Kings. If it's not cap space, it's guys who need new deals. If it's not new deals now, it's new deals next year. If it's not a top 6 forward, it's a top 4 defenseman. If it's not some young guys on cheap deals to fill out the roster, it's having to not waste any more quality years of the veteran core, even though 2 years have just been wasted. Any way you go, there's a roadblock somewhere.
 
I think the team needs to swallow their pride and try to get Prokhorkin over again by promising him a spot on opening day. Of he performs great if he doesnt let him go back to Russia. Versteeg was welcomed hope we sign him. Get rid of dead weight like King , Lewis and try your hardest to move Brown. Sign Goligoski possibly i dont think we need a big rebuild just a retooling and we can still make noise if our top players are hungry once again. If we sign Lucic great if not we still seem decent sorta. I hope we sign Lucic though he did change how many goals went in this year

Gaborik-Kopitar-Versteeg- grow chemistry; Versteeg has fast passes that can send Gabs on a breakout

The kid played in 42 games last year.
Undersized?:shakehead You clearly don't know what/who you are talking about...
 
I think Miller will be a player, but all this ranting and raving about a dude who would not have helped us this year is starting to get to me. Even if you have a different philosophy (win now vs. save our picks) NEITHER ROUTE gets us over the hump THIS YEAR or LAST and we're arguably worse off both years without trying. I appreciate a GM that swings for the fences to keep something special going.
 
Lucic says he's not interested in testing the UFA market. Take it as you will but he better be willing to take a discount so we can still make a run at Yandle
