I think we sort of knew that but it’s interesting to see so those comparisons.

The team, with all their experts, should be able to answer why that is the case and try to fix it, if possible.

I could barely cope with Carlos inane takes but after Landsberg left, Carlo became absolutely intolerable.

Glad I shut off all sports talk shows. It’s just mindless noise to me now and doesn’t enhance the experience in any way. Just a bunch of talking heads spouting off and talking out the sides of their asses.
With so much uncertainty and negativity around the franchise they’ve got a lot to prove before anyone is pumping their tires.

Personally, i stopped listening to sports radio, i switched to podcasts.

Just listened to Friedman's recent pod. He said the Oilers wanted to sign ZAR but ZAR's preference is to play on the east coast.
How could a free agent player ever choose gloomy Toronto over the Vegas of the north... Edmonton, Alberta?

Camp starts on the 22nd but from what I hear virtually every signed player on every team is scrimmaging with their partners coaches want them to start up season with on teams ice and da coaches are in da stands watching these scrimmages .. and skills based technique training also occurring with certain players too also on team ice .. da whole concept of CAMP needs to be re-thought so it jives with da CBA .. seems like da players could not care less .. and if a guy gets hurt bottom line he is on team ice skating with his teammates so still gonna get paid if hurt out there .. there go Bettman and all da other lawyers at it again so unsigned players don't participate

Getting ready for another season the blue and white way…

Me too. I couldn't stand Tim and Sid. The overdrive show used to be great but has been going way down hill imo and stuff like them doubling down on crapping on Liljegren all the time instead of admitting they were wrong made me lose respect for them. They seem to be increasing with more bad takes and stubbornness all the time too.

Lately been listening to Dangle, Rink Rat Report and Locked on Leafs for Leafs content. Always open to more if anyone has any other good ones?

The FirstUp crew is talking about the lack of enthusiasm and even apathy regarding the Leafs right now.

Yeah, I don't believe for one second these guys don't want to win with every fibre of their existence. Sad how many awesome Leafs have left town over the years and had subtle jabs at the media after winning somewhere else. And you just know every one of these pundits will be "Go 'Topes, I never stopped believing!" types the moment the team puts it all together.

I get the feeling that many fans and the media don’t believe this team has underachieved.

It‘s hard to talk about the Leafs and not discuss their record. It is what it is.

Hayes has recently talked highly of Lily saying he believes he could take another step and be a top 4 for the Leafs, at the same time took a shot Sandin

Wish I watched the entire game yesterday for perspective on how he looked compared to the others.

Only watched last 10 minutes and by then the game was over and Robertson didn't show anything for those minutes.
No idea. I haven’t seen him play since last preseason. Falls down a lot as I recall

"Play the Kids"

Leafs are hoping he can play, but he did make a cringe worthy play yesterday in the rookie tournament, that would have you in the coaches doghouse fast.

The reason he might make the team is for his goal scoring ability.

Maple Leafs AGM Ryan Hardy on Nick Robertson’s big-club prospects this Fall: “He’s very much knocking on the doorstep” .. If we look at last season, in particular, I think Nicky played 28 games in the American league and scored 16 goals. That is a 40-goal clip for a kid that just turned 22 the other day. That is an unbelievable run. He is extremely driven. He is a young man that loves hockey. I think he is very much knocking on the doorstep.

A 'Thicker' Nick Robertson is Driven to Make the Maple Leafs Out of Training Camp

After short stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs during his tenure, Nick Robertson's goal to win a roster spot out of training camp remains the same. But this time he might actually do it.

"My goal is obviously not to go back to the American (Hockey League), the goal is to play in the NHL like it is every year," Robertson said. "Nothing has changed." While his goal hasn't deviated, his appearance has. Robertson's off-season training in Los Angeles consisted of putting on some weight to better withstand the rigors of the NHL. At one point, Robertson, who was last listed at 164 pounds built himself up to 185 pounds before scaling things back down. "I got a little thicker in the legs and upper body," Robertson said. "I'm working on being stable on the ice as well as just maintaining my shot and using it as a weapon a lot."

Robertsons gaffe aside, I found him to be very defensive minded, most often being the highest forward in the zone and first one back into his zone. His positioning was most often very good. He won a few puck battles along the boards too, which are unlikely to ever be a strength of his, except for with fast hands.

Toronto general manager Kyle Dubas once again resisted any potential urge to make a change behind the bench or with his roster, instead deciding to once again run it back with head coach Sheldon Keefe at the reins of largely the same core group led by Matthews, Rielly, Mitch Marner, John Tavares and William Nylander.

“It's a boost of confidence for us to have their confidence,” Rielly, whose eight-year contract extension is about to kick in, said of Toronto's front office. “To keep guys together, to give guys an opportunity to right the ship and to change the script, I think that's a cool opportunity. That's what's extremely motivating.

“This group has lost together, and it truly does make you want to win together that much more.”

I'm not sure even Rielly believes what he's saying there. The lack of turnover at the top of the lineup for this perennial 1st round casualty is largely unprecedented in pro sports. Conventional wisdom says "shake it up!" when the team loses early in multiple consecutive playoffs as you witness a largely physically unscathed team turn to the exit one by one from the end of the handshake line once again.

The article makes reference to Colorado and Tampa Bay having similar struggles when both franchises did win playoff series in several previous playoff seasons. The Leafs are not in the same situation as those teams. Plus the Leafs lack the tax haven status of the states where those teams are based allowing them to load up on quality veteran depth.

1 week until the OTT / TOR double header. Camp, practices, pressors will occur. We might get a small window into Keefe's lines.

lol

my interest is at an all time low. dubas has killed my excitement for the leafs. i dont even frequent HF boards often anymore. once in a while I'll come in and mostly spend my time in trade or NHL mains to see whats up

kudos to the folks who still have the energy for another season, especially the folks that just hate what dubas has done to the franchise

Robertson just turned 21, not 22.
