Hoping Robertson can make the leap full time this year and just stay healthy. This kid has some shit luck with injuries, it would be the perfect addition to our middle 6.
Count on that happening……unfortunatelyI think it would look like a circuit board
I hope we dont suffer from bad timing this training camp.. not being able to move someone and get stuck with losing someone
Haven’t seen anyone that’s been able to adequately answer this but why do you think he signed a PTO two weeks before camp if he’s going to be signed anyway?
Why sign it at all then two weeks before camp?I think it's a PTO in name only, I think they have given him reason to believe he's going to be on the team after Simmonds, Joey Anderson, Adam Gaudette and/or Kyle Clifford get sent down because if the 4 them make a combined 3.1 million so send them down and at least 1 spot opens up
Why sign it at all then two weeks before camp?
because they can't give him a contract right now so they gave him a PTO to get him in camp and assuming he doesn't get hurt he's expected to get a spot
I was referring to the player. Why would the player want to sign that?because they can't give him a contract right now so they gave him a PTO to get him in camp and assuming he doesn't get hurt he's expected to get a spot
Nobody has given ZAR a contract as camp approaches so a professional tryout contract is likely his best option.I was referring to the player. Why would the player want to sign that?
I don't have too much optimism for the upcoming season, but I think I'll still watch the Leafs' games and try to enjoy them anyway.
I could picture Matthews and Marner taking a step back and falling off last year's pace. Still good, but not great.
Tavares will be a year older, and despite his best training regimen he will still be a year older.
Nylander I would count on to be as good or better than last year, which is just good but not great.
Rielly I think will have his best year ever, but even at that he is not the dominant defenceman the Leafs need.
The rest are just guys. Some will do better, some worse, but I don't see any game breakers in there. The Leafs will do well to make the playoffs.
Don't plan the parade.
Hockey is an entertaining sport. It can be fun to watch even if your team doesn't win every game. I plan to enjoy the ride.
Bottom six are better on paper than last year, more suited to their roles. I don't anticipate Simmonds or Clifford to make it, so there's an improvement right there. What other team has the reigning Hart Trophy winner on their team to go along with a top 3 winger in the entire league. Solid if unspectacular defence. Tavares would be a 1st line centre on half the teams in the league, and Nylander when in the mood is a top winger in the league with plenty of potential to be better. Their top 3 lines matchup to any in the league and the 4th is going to be improved. That's the optimistic, realistic look at the Leafs going into the season. Not make the playoffs? They're probably going to win their division with just average goaltending, so no. . Should be a great year. How could this post be more depressing? You forgot to mention inflation and interest rates.
Also, hard to believe they're this close to training camp/pre-season while still a man short and $1.5M over the cap. It's not maybe, there literally *has* to be another major move still.
I was referring to the player. Why would the player want to sign that?
sure but he could do that without signing a PTOLikely because they just really wants to play for the team and is willing to put up with a delay on contract signing to get what he wants
I don't think it's any more complicated beyond that.

Leafs fans never plan the parade. It is a perjoritive used when the Leafs are having some success.I don't have too much optimism for the upcoming season, but I think I'll still watch the Leafs' games and try to enjoy them anyway.

They're not man short or over the cap, btw.
You shouldn't have much optimism about the Leafs team that just had a franchise record season.
So they're going with 6 defensemen for the season? Or perhaps a better way of asking, this is it, the roster's set? And Capfriendly's got it wrong showing they're $1.5M over the cap right now? Not sure what you're angle is here.
They have 15 defensemen under contract.
Nine with NHL experience.
But Sandin is unsigned.
Capfriendly is showing 14 forwards in the line-up, they won't go with that.
Going with 6 defenders and 12 forwards, they're Cap compliant.
But if you're suggesting there may be a move to change it up, I wouldn't disagree something might happen.
Kerfoot makes the most sense, for the most options.

Joey Anderson then Denis MalginWho are we thinking will get the longest look at camp to crack the roster?
Yes, they will ice a team, but they’re in a bit a bind and will have to shed some salary. I don’t believe they have the waiver exempt flexibility they had in past years. So they're going with 6 defensemen for the season? Or perhaps a better way of asking, this is it, the roster's set? Aston-Reese on the PTO might be top of the list now.Joey Anderson then Denis Malgin
This particular regime isn't one to have training camp competitions. I believe them to have the roster ready before camp with contingencies for injuries. Players have to really fall flat to change those plans. Anderson was a trade acquisition and is without a waivers exemption. He will have to fail mightily to not get first crack at early games.
sure but he could do that without signing a PTO
Sorry, I don't follow. If that were true he would have been signed in July
