Those elimination games in all those series were straight up painful watch. Kept the Leafs to the perimeter almost all game long with all those "useless" big/tough defensemen they had.

Good, I was hoping they'd do that. I'm surprised other teams haven't really tried that yet, but it's a very interesting idea. In general, it feels like strategy in hockey is a lot more conservative than it should be
