so thats the type of production to be expected from that draft position? like i said to the other poster go get a job with the rangers then and please feed them that type of information.

lol always something new with you lol so now we dont have 2nd and 3rd lines everyone is the same and ice time is going to become the new hf phrase. its great though but bottom line is hes on the bottom end of whatever line combos phrase you want to throw out there

You could have had nichushkin whom everyone loved (including myself) but is a human diceroll as to whether a suspension is lurking.
You could have had Barzal, who, albeit flashy, isn't really a better all round player, especially when on the shelf.

DStrome went ahead of him, same start line..., Crouse, deBrusk after... Are they busts?

Zacha was pushed into a top shutdown role on a garbage team. Not really sure that was ever his game.

Yeah it looks terrible when you see all the great players later in the draft, but it's easy to Monday morning qb

I definitely don't buy that getting Quinn makes Casey redundant. I don't think Casey had a skillset that you only need so much of for starters
Casey's a great PPQB.

If you have a great PPQB not in a PP role, you are wasting that.

(especially with how I'd argue OFD PPQB dmen, as long as they aren't pure specialists, are valued in the NHL).

You could get an equivalent or likely better 5v5 guy, who also PKs in value returned for him.

Casey will still be a very good dmen 5v5, but you're better off selling him to someone who needs the PP value, and so will pay the price for said PP value.

Can’t say enough good things about Allen and Daws. They have both stepped up and done yeoman’s work in goal.

Marchand is one of just a few players in the league that I find completely and utterly repugnant. I’d throw up if he ever donned a Devils jersey. He’s such a piece of trash.
I don’t blame you, but Tom Wilson probably awaits in the second round, and we probably need a piece of shit for that.

This will get some dirty looks...

but Id probably acquire nobody this deadline; at most use one of the extra 2nds for a third liner

I dont see us as a contender and Id rather not pay deadline prices for a player with term, but instead wait and see how the offseason plays out
this is how i see it too. i don’t see us making any moves. let’s see how everyone plays in the playoffs and then make moves in offseason.

i think this is a big put up or shut up post season for Meier. something has to give there.

No, I just want this team to win, which means keeping our best players and playing them in high leverage situations.

I don't understand why you hate him so much. Because he took your golden boy's roster spot?

They have at times. Quinn and Casey are more skilled than most PP1 forwards.

Quinn is more skilled for sure. Casey over a netfront guy like Noesen is worse for the PP, and he's certainly not more offensively gifted than a Meier. Heck, even among dmen Luke is more skilled.

Casey is an excellent prospect, I have been praising him since he got drafted.

But he has significant risks associated with him that mean you don't just throw every other option ahead of him away and think it's gonna work out 100%. He has no track record of NHL success so far, and he isn't the level or archetype of prospect that you can just lock in as a sure thing. Additionally, even in the best case scenario, his tools are again somewhat redundant on a team that has better options for those roles available.

Simply due to the PP aspect alone, Seamus Casey will hold more value to a different team with a space to use him there (and no, 2 dmen is not happening), and a significant portion of his skill and value will always be wasted in NJD. Even looking back at michigan behind Luke, the lack of opportunity is a limiter to his value and impact.

I hold this view consistently
-Hamilton is obsolete if Quinn is brought in, so I would ship him out (despite being known on here as THE biggest hamilton defender)
-I hold this view for every single potential top 6 PP1 on whatever team forward is discussed. Why pay the PP1 sticker price when it doesn't even go on your PP1.

Why pay the price (or miss out on the opportunity cost of selling in this case).

No matter how good Casey is or isn't, without a PP opening we will be getting 70% of his potential impact. So I would prefer to sell him to a team that needs and will pay for his full impact as they use him in a PPQB role.

PP QBs are incredibly valuable and important. So take advantage of said incredible value rather than wasting it away.

Nemec for example, is not a good PP QB. But it doesn't matter because we don't NEED one. What that will unfortunately do, is lower his value to a buying team.

Even if I thought Casey was significantly better than Nemec (which, considering PP value he may very well be better than Nemec), I'd still be saying trade him.

If you switched Nemec and Casey's PPQB abilities (which would make Nemec better and Casey worse) I would be saying trade Nemec, since again his PP value would be wasted by us, but HEAVILY desired by others.

Zacha was a controversial pick at the time, even on this board. I remember that when we were doing polls, the majority was leaning towards Barzal (Myself included), though a lot of people wanted Rantanen or one of the highly touted D. There was a Zacha contingent, for sure.

He was definitely a project pick at the time. All the tools, lacking a toolbox sort of guy. Kinda how he played out here. Central Scouting ranked him 8th among North American skaters (Because he was playing in North America, I guess).

Here's our prospect thread on him if you're feeling nostalgic and want to see how right or wrong you were: https://forums.hfboards.com/threads/6th-overall-pick-pavel-zacha.1917363/

Carolina looks really vulnerable. Fitz needs to get the forward reinforcements and let's roll the dice in April
How dare you stroll in here and suggest another team looks like they might be struggling!!!

WE'RE THE ONLY TEAM THAT SUCKS 'ROUND THESE PARTS!

Who the hell do you think you are!!!?? Take that talk somewhere else!

Frederic isn’t an ideal target for me. I’d rather add some skill to the middle 6. Don't mind the player, but I think we're fine on the grinder/physical types.
We need a top 6 winger to bump Palat down to the bottom 6 and a 3rd line C. Honestly I am tempted to say he could use another forward as well, but will leave it at 2.

Get me one of Zucker and Palmieri

Get me a 3rd line center or 3rd line center tweener (Jake Evans or comparable)

Get me one more 4th liner who can displace Bastian (Armia or someone comparable)

You cannot afford to add an 8 mill dman, then pay kovy 4, luke 8.6 and keep hamilton, and have Dillon as a 7

That team would be 600k over the cap and then you'd need to replace Mercer and find another forward

A Quinn trade would have Hamilton sent out.

100%.

There are VERY few dmen you play above Hamilton on PP. Quinn is one.

And Hamilton on PP2 is wasted value, let alone Luke not on PP at all.
Well did you not read that I called it a dream? That means it was never going to happen. LOL

3 points in 8 games for Rantanen. The 4 Nations Tournament and having to play a much different system with no Mackinnon or Makar (with all due respect to the Canes) on the team must be an adjustment.
