Exceptionally rare in a salary-capped NHL in 2019. You'll see first round picks exchanged. You'll see prospects go for guys with term. But the instances where a top prospect went for a rental are few and far between.

If McDonagh, who wasn't a rental and had significantly higher value, couldn't get us back an impact player what makes you think 2 rentals will?

Dallas making it to the WCF and Tampa winning the cup would be great, just hope Zucc is back and can play in half of Dallas’ playoff games.
 
LOL, I didn't see this trade here last week....

Edmonton traded Spooner to Vancouver to Sam Gagner. LOL poor Spooner, on his 4th team in 2 years

Economics 101...market determines pricing which fluctuates according to demand,supply, goals and other conditions

Calgary likely offered something similar, their 1st which will be even higher and a b level prospect. No one is trading their top prospects anymore.

Just saw this too, that's quite the haul. McQuaid should bring back the same. Not all about the blockbusters
 
I don't even consider Hayes and Zucc to be 'impact players.' Why would we get back someone better than them?

What we got was chances at getting players who become impact players.

And thankfully, I won't have to watch Smith on the fourth line anymore.

Lemieux basically goes into the spot I thought Lias would be in for the long haul. Pain to play against on the third line wing. Seem like a similar player although lemieux can actually skate. But he’s also going to be 23 in like 2 weeks and hasn’t done squat at the nhl level.

This is the return you get for a rental though. Which is why Hayes and Zucc should have been dealt last year. Stupid
 
So if things remain unchanged, we will draft 7 times in the first round, between 2017-2019.

If the hockey gods finally decide the Rangers are due, and want to restore some balance to the universe, the Rangers will pick 9 times in the first between 2017-2019, and then an additional two times in 2020, including first overall in 2019.
