Only one I can remember off the top of my head is the trade for Vancouver to get the other Sedin pick. And that was a really odd situation.
It doesn't happen unless a team is barely moving up, and even then it hasn't happened in nearly 2 decades. Never happened in the modern salary cap era - the most important thing to note here.

The Nyquist trade should put to bed any notion that there was some magical better package to be had for Zucc. They are nearly identical in terms of value. Zucc slightly better player and Nyquist slightly younger.

Zucc got the better package. 2 conditional firsts. Stars picks>Sharks.

I love Zucc, but it's really sad to see how many fans can't separate value from emotion. The Rangers sold him for 20 games. What was the sense in keeping him? To be nice? This is a business. If he has a serious desire to return, he can call the team on July 1st and offer himself up for 4 years at 4 mil per and I'd be shocked if the Rangers don't accept those terms.

I hope Hayes & Kreider are next.

Teams likely trying not to give a 1 for Hayes but I think someone caves

McQuaid a 3rd? A little skeptical , let’s see where Ceci lands

Nyquist had an NTC though.

Nyquist wasn't Eric Staal who would waive for just one team in 2016. There have been no reports of any list or Nyquist turned down a trade to a certain team.

The same thing happened with Staal again last week before the Wild won 3 straight games. Teams inquired about Staal but he doesn't want to go anywhere. Other teams saw this and said f*** this. He doesn't want to waive for anything. It's a waste of our time.

Dallas can't be done trading? Benn and Zucc out injured...
Can we dangle Hayes in front of them and get some Young D's back? Honka..Nichushkin

They have nothing more to give us. Honka and Nichushkin are projects and not even remotely worth Hayes. I'd rather keep Hayes if that's what we're getting.

I don't know if this is a thing, but if they removed the two conditions on the picks for Zucc, I'd do it:

1st 2019
1st 2020
2nd 2019
3rd 2020
Honka/Nichushkin

For:
Hayes
Zucc

Just had a friend tell me three teams talked to the Rangers more than once about Kreider today.

I know I’ve been beating this horse since last season, but this is not a long shot by any stretch.
I think theres a 50/50 chance he gets dealt today. If not today, definitely at the draft.

Disagree. I think they resign him between now and the start of next season and name him captain.

The one caveat to that would be if they get blown away with an offer that just about everyone on here is happy with. That being said, something like that is extremely unlikely.

Pretty much the same if not slightly less then Zuc. Its just how the market is for people still complaining about Zuc

No, the people "complaining about Zuc" aren't talking about "market". The narrative that opinions like the above, and you're not alone, assume that the Rangers had to trade him and that that is what he's worth.

The people "complaining about Zuc" are saying that that wasn't enough to replace what he brings to the team and the team would've been better off signing him for another 4-5 years then have a late 2nd and 3rd round pick in subsequent drafts which contributes very little to a rebuild. Zooks leads by example and busts it every shift throughout his career save for a small drop this year early on when he was clearly having difficulty facing the writing on the wall. Rebuilds also build a winning culture and character in the room. See Sabres, Buffalo for a team perpetually rebuilding the wrong way.

As you know, I am one who is not happy with the return. However, to play devil's advocate, here, perhaps Zucc wasn't going to re-sign with a rebuilding team.

He would've signed here. He wanted to be a career Ranger.

I understand the whole thing but I don't think it was the Ranger's best move - but I don't have access to Gorton's Master Plan ® so who the heck knows. I guess we'll see this summer when we have a ton of cap space...

I mean, I feel like we have more of a plan than the Knicks at least.

It seems like to me the plan is to get a lot of darts to throw and maybe one or two will hit the bullseye. It’s just a shame that 4 guys the Rangers said were done and or not good are currently on the Lightning on a team that is so far better than anyone else right now. Imagine if the Rangers did not make a rediculus call to begin a rebuild. If Mica and Kreider both played as well as they are this year and the Rangers still had a complementary group like Miller, McD and the like— I’d say they’d be headed on another deep playoff run.

This rebuild is horrible, will continue to be horrible for a long time and the outcome will likely be unknown for years to come!

Really?
At least the Knicks actually have multiple kids and are playing them. That's a legit rebuild. Also getting a top pick. With a strong possibility of adding the second best player in the sport, along with another top player, to the current young team.

I wish the Rangers were in the same position.
