Yeah but Andersson was supposed to be Pettersson, and Miller got hurt, and we're last in ROW picking 11th.

We just dealt our 3rd and 4th best forwards so I think we'll slide a bit.

There are a ton of good forwards available in the 1-10 slots, and Im sure D starving teams will reach and leave guys like Cozens or Dach available at the 9-10 spot.

I'm tentatively feeling optimistic about Kravtsov and Miller. Certainly moreso than Andersson right now.
All 3 of them seem like they will be very good but will any of them develop into the guy on a final's winning team? I have my doubts about that

This has been so frustrating so far.

I'm not saying #FireGorton or that we did anything wrong, but this rebuild just can't get a break so far.

2014 SCF of rebuilds.
This has been a nearly perfect execution of the rebuild if you're even sorta realistic about it.

Speaks out of both sides of his mouth to just fill the article with words

I don't really agree. When I saw the headline I reacted like hmm what is this now? But I think Brooks makes a very good point. Hayes is still young and we could have resigned him at a fairly OK rate multiple times. We didn't and traded him away instead.

Right or wrong -- but nobody can claim that Gorton showed great confidence in Kevin Hayes. It has definitely been the complete opposite. Right?

If we're picking like 8th or 9th and Cozens or Dach are still available, I'll pop champagne.

Then I'll drink that champagne until I die when we take somebody I've never heard of with that pick.

Hayes would have been signed to a reasonable deal in the past off-season. Gorton didn't want to commit. Then Hayes had a much better than expected season and the price got astronomical

I think it also depends on what considers reasonable.

Even if you agree on the dollars and years, there's a possibility that the NMC is a sticking point.

Hayes really has no reason to short-change himself with this contract. He knows someone is going to give him the dollars, the years and the movement clause.

In the Rangers case, even if they give him the dollars and the years, there's no reason for Hayes to walk away from a NMC.

He and his representatives aren't stupid, they know he'd still be a trade candidate even with a new contract. They also know the Rangers have some younger centers that could be pushing things in a few years.

So there's no reason for Hayes to leave his future up in the air, when NMCs are going to be on the table. That's just bad business.

The kid is 26 years old and set to become an UFA for the second time in five years. As I've said before, that's not by accident. He's been in control of his destiny and he's not going to trade that element just because he really likes being a Ranger.

As of right now, I'd be shocked if either of them didn't go top 5.

Johansen averages around 60 points. Mika already has 60 points.

Similar shot share and impact on possession over their careers. RyJo has been the better producer every year except this year, only a year older. Is Zibanejad now this 70-80 point player every year? I hope so, but have to wait and see, definitely not pegging him as that yet.

True, but think this was the plan all along. Gorton easily could have given Kevin a 5 or 6 year deal, at a lower AAV. Prob said to Kevin, you prove you're worth, will be more money for you with US (next year), or somewhere else. Either way, you win. We just want to win in regard to rental fees. Can't pass this up Kevin, please understand......it's just good business.

To be fair, Brooks realized he'd actually have to stay up to watch the games and learn how to spell their names to report on the prospects. May even have to check in with the AHL team once in a while.

Only to get less clicks than he did before.

If I were him, my new strategy to stir the pot, start a narrative that if the Rangers trade away too many planks, tectonic plates will shift and Manhattan will end up next to Buffalo.

Well, if he reverts back to old Zibanejad, you wouldn't be winning anything with him either.
