If most goes well, I've kind of eyed 2022/2023 as about the time things should begin to crest.
I was convinced this year would be the bottom, but it looks more like next year will be the bottoming out. I don’t think Panarin is coming here, and I think we’ll see an off-season similar to this past one.

I think it also depends on what considers reasonable.

Even if you agree on the dollars and years, there's a possibility that the NMC is a sticking point.

Hayes really has no reason to short-change himself with this contract. He knows someone is going to give him the dollars, the years and the movement clause.

In the Rangers case, even if they give him the dollars and the years, there's no reason for Hayes to walk away from a NMC.

He and his representatives aren't stupid, they know he'd still be a trade candidate even with a new contract. They also know the Rangers have some younger centers that could be pushing things in a few years.

So there's no reason for Hayes to leave his future up in the air, when NMCs are going to be on the table. That's just bad business.

The kid is 26 years old and set to become an UFA for the second time in five years. As I've said before, that's not by accident. He's been in control of his destiny and he's not going to trade that element just because he really likes being a Ranger.
Yes, I agree. I thought 5.7-6 was reasonable, mid season, but with a NTC in the later years. That apparently wasn't the case.

I think a Brady Skjei type deal could have been had in the prior off-season but once again, Gorton was hesitant.

Gorton gets a lot of crap but I trust his thinking and player evaluation.

About a year earlier than that. They'll load up some for Hanks last year on his contract, then REALLY load up the year after.

I think it'll take a lot to fall into place to jumpstart things, but it really does depend on the talent we're talking about.

In 2021, Miller and Kravtsov will barely be old enough to buy beers, and whoever we take this year will just be out of their teen years.

I feel like the concept of a "contender" is thrown around a little too easily. Calgary is a contender. Tampa is a contender. Toronto is a contender. Winnipeg is a contender. Nashville as well.

St. Louis? Dallas? Carolina? Eh, not so much.

Everyone's gone silent now. Watch as 15 GMs try to pull a Stevie Yzerman "Mic drop" at the last minute so nobody gets a comeback.

Trade a defenseman for a player like Guiranov... a risk but a player that might be on the cusp of breaking out

I for one am thrilled about the possibility of a 2020 extra 1st for Zuccha. Call it "plan C".

If we ending up sucking wind......next year (looking like that)
The more 1sts that year, the better. No brainer.
Kreider will probably be last chance to get, yet another.
