No I'd say solid goalie prospects have more value than either of our goalies with their current salaries and how they have been playing the last year or more. I'm not sure either could be traded for much more than a 5th round pick at the moment.

Uhh, no. Not even close.

Late round goalie prospects who haven't played a game at the NHL level or even showed success at the AHL level has considerably less value around the league than even backup NHL goaltenders.

Ovate has it right. Unless the goaltender is a young blue chip prospect, they won't hold much value at all.

Reimer for example can probably return a 3rd round pick, like Dubnyk did last year. Bibeau or Sparks could never get that - they are the type you add to a package.

yep that's exactly what I was thinking when reading this argument.

It would be funny if the Leafs and Briuns have a blockbuster trade, Dion, Marincin and Bozak for Boston 1st rounder in 2016, Chara and Marchand.

Bruins aren't going to trade that pick away, they suck.

Also the value there is horrible. Take the 1st rounder out and it's more even, but doesn't make sense for our rebuild then.

Chara and Marchand got shorter contracts than Dion and Bozak. Maybe not a 1st rounder, but a 2nd rounder is still good.

The Bruins also hold LA's 1st round pick I think. Right now LA sucks too. I'd be looking at that pick. I think at some point Neely/Sweeny will make dumb trades. We should be helping them do that.

Dion has sneakily propelled himself to the top of Leafs scoring with 3 assists. This is a good start. If he can get some momentum on it and keep it up, his stock will rise. Someone will panic and throw us a first and a prospect or two for him by November.

Or, the Leafs and Babcock can surround all these young D with a veteran presence.

Pretty sure its SJs first.

The Leafs luck:
The 1st year we actually dedicate ourselves to a rebuild (and look to build the right way with high picks/high talent), 8 teams are going to suck worse than us moving us to the middle of the pack while the others collect Matthews/Chychrun after a year or two removed from playoff success.

It's been three or four games. SJ, Boston, Carolina and Columbus will finish way better than the Leafs.
The Leafs are a bottom 3 teams barring a miracle.

Do you actually think the Penguins will end up with less points than us this year?

With the leafs luck, they'll finish last and pick 4th.

Pretty hard to buy into the anti-Canadian conspiracy after how many times the Oilers have gotten the first overall pick. Meanwhile, an American team in a small market, Buffalo, couldn't buy a first overall pick.

The conspiracy is against Toronto not Canadian Teams. To me, Edmonton is a struggling Franchise before McDavid.

Yes, they are definitely crucifying us. We have done everything right, but its the league and their bloody conspiracy against us that is holding us down.

Did I do that right?

:amazed:

When Kessel got traded on Canada Day I thought there actually might be a God.
If Dion gets traded by November, I'll be born again.

TBF, a lot of Detroit's bad Corsi was probably in that Carolina game they got outshot 45-15 or something like that.

Fair enough, though if you're getting outshot that bad by this years Carolina Hurricanes, you're not playing very well

At the beginning of the year I would have said 0% chance. But watching them...wow is their defense horrible.

You can have the best forwards in the world, but if your defense can't move the puck up to them, there isn't much they can do.

So what we want is Pittsburgh to miss the playoffs this year ... and then be really bad the following year (2016-2017) right? That might give us a top 10 pick in 2017 ... vs. a 16-24 pick in 2016.

Or do we want the 16-24 pick in 2016?

I am assuming Pittsburgh does not get far in the playoffs and our pick is 16-24.
