Word was pretty clear Seegar was told to come back for Tuesday, apparently he did not return. He wasn't cut according to the paper when he left, and the scoop was he was returning to iron out details with high school. Buzz around rink was he should have been signed, does anyone know what happened?

He went home to write an exam to maintain his US eligibility. He wants to play in Moncton this season and will come back if the Wildcats decide to sign him.

Olivier, Bower and Seeger

I like the Olivier move. Three years from now, we could build a team that can challenge for it all. Olivier was rough around the edges (only in youth) but his potential is unquestionable. And he can bury. Seegar buried too, at least in both sets of scrimmages. They gave others a pass on working their way through rookie and vet camp for that matter, and signed them. IMO they should have signed Seegar early, and took a longer look at Bower. I think both Bower and Seegar showed they were worth a spot even though they couldn't play exhibition games due to their eligibility concerns. And why would they want to give that up if they are positioned for that type of opportunity. The fact they were here, for as longs as they were, IMO, should have been a sign to get em while they're hot. Why would they tell Seegar to return, if they had no intention of signing him. Something up with that, and its nothing to do with NCAA eligibility IMO.

All three of these guys have futures and hopefully one of our rosters will soon have them all listed on it. Jacob? Come on, he's not even physically able to play without risking further injury ! Hopefully the next few months will give Cats management ability to see if their predictions pan out. Haas for Captain !!! Keep Tremaine

There have been rumblings that Mark Tremaine has been placed on waivers. I don't know if there's any truth to it but it would come as a shock. He had a decent year and really picked it up after the Christmas break. I think it would be a mistake and I'm sure another team would pounce on it.

Management hasn't made up their minds on Seeger. To me he looked good enough but you never know what their plan is. Rumble certainly appears to be making a lot of the calls on players. They probably had a meeting with him and let him know they havn't yet decided wether to sign him or not. As a precautionary he went home and made sure to complete his exams to be eligible in case things don't work out here. All indications are that he'll come back if guaranteed a spot. He wants to play in Moncton.

Matt Bower is a 97' born that's really made a case for himself. It's a really tough call on him wether it would be better for his development to spend the year in Moncton being rotated in and out of the line up or play another year of AAA. I think he'd benefit by having a good season in AAA. Good thing about this is he's a local kid that's only an hour and a half away in Saint John. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign an affiliate card and get a few games in , maybe even get called up permanently in the second half. Playing AAA at 16 is nothing to be ashamed of , he'll be in their plans next season.

I don't know what the deal is with Alex Jacob. Mikael Lalancette , who many including myself, consider reliable seems to think he sticking. This comes to surprise to most since he's extremely small and hasn't been able to stay healthy the past couple of seasons in AAA. I don't believe for a second his father , a Wildcats' scout, has anything to do with it. Being a Moncton kid , the scouting staff , Danny Flynn and Roger Shannon have definitely watched him a lot and know what they have. He may be small but he has a great set of wheels. Look at Conor Garland last season, he proved to be a very small BUT effective player.

Last but now least , Olivier Mathieu stole someone's spot. He's exceeded everyone's expectations and made this team. Kudos to him , he was a later round steal and a very bright spot in Moncton's future. He's a potential five year player and is leading the team in pre season scoring. This kids is solid.

I guess you're right about Bower, they could access him easily enough. Great young player. They may take some games into the season to see who is performing and who is not, especially with this type of youth. Seeger is Canadian by the way; his family may have familiarity with the Canadian University System and after Q opportunities and have decided that this route is just as good as the NCAA. Seeger stayed on his own for a long time, and from all accounts was set to return Tuesday. Should have signed him early too, no reason not to, he could contribute and I would love to have seen him in an exhibition game sure (would have probably sewed it up of himself)--but after the Friendship Tournament where he played a very physical game, demonstrating grit, power, poise and vision, and having gone through rookie camp (nursing injury) and vet camp, his not playing an exhibition game shouldn't be a factor in not signing him, but I understand that Rumble would want to give those who DID play in an exhibition game, the courtesy of a contract on good performance over somebody who couldn't' play. Hopefully, they sign him, or if they wait, hopefully he comes back. Bower might be a great player to drop in an out as much as possible, with real consideration for a late roster addition. That option exists with him. He's got a taste now, he can develop for a while in Woodstock, and might be ready to jump in sooner than we think.

Your expecting them to take 16 forwards? I would say Tibbo and possibly Drover could be cut as well.

Sounds like Barbashev is going to be late and I'm starting to doubt Tkachev is reporting at all. If he does , I'd cut Drover too. Flynn has started the season with a 25 man roster before. Instead of 2013-14 Wildcats , I should have said "opening night Wildcats"

I thought you wrote that Jacob was with them for the whole year but you didn't put him in your list???

Alex Bradley assigned to Jr.A

Maxim Pitre claimed off waivers by BLB.

Pitre didn't need to be waived but the Wildcats wanted to give him a chance to play elsewhere since he wasn't in the team's plans.

I'm not going to disagree he hasn't been great but it's not like he was a 1st round pick. He was Moncton first pick which happened to be in the 3rd round. He's a raw 16 year old but has progressed during training camp. His last exhibition game was much better than his first. I wouldn't have been opposed to see him get sent down but with other cuts already made , it looks like he's here to stay. He'll be fine.

Wildcats beat Charlottetown 5-2 , here are my game notes.

Alex Dubeau had a decent game. Makes some great saves down the stretch. Hopefully he can get in a groove early this season and be consistent. Glad to see him play well tonight , this game gained him some confidence.

Adam Holwell looked much better tonight. Nerves got the better of him at the beginning of camp. He looked calm and steady. He didn't try anything fancy but got the job done which is all one can ask of a 16 year old rookie defenseman.

Garrett Johnston also had a decent game. He wasn't as noticeable as the first couple of exhibition games but will be a solid addition this season. Very poise with the puck and likes too jump into the play. He's a good skater and will definitely get some power play time. I expect he'll have a permanent fixture on the second pairing.

Jacob Sweeney looked like him old self. Plays a strong positional game and has a good hockey IQ. He's probably our #2 defenseman this season and will be relied on heavily against opponent's top lines. One thing I did notice , and really liked, is he seemed to be taking the body a lot more. I hope he'll keep it up as size his one of his strengths.

Michael Poirier didn't impress whatsoever. I noticed him several times being caught out of position. He made numerous bad decisions which led to a couple of two-on-ones. He looks fairly small and timid. Got pushed around in front of the net and always a step behind. He looked out of place tonight. If they opt to go with 7 defensemen , he'd be the obvious choice. Could be used as an affiliate.

Liam Hynes is very exciting to watch. Small shifty winger with great hands. He's a speedster that blows by defenders and uses his incredible wrist shot. He likes sniping corners. I could see him playing a top6 role with power play time.

Conor Garland was all over the place. A real treat to watch. He added a couple of inches and 20+ which really shows when fighting off defenders. His skating is much improved too. Very fast , nifty and plays with an edge that gets under his opponent's skin. I think he's going to have a real big season and be a star in this league as early as next season. Can't believe he could be here for another four seasons.

Cody Drover didn't seem to get much ice time tonight. I still question his skating and work ethic. He definitely has an offensive touch but looks a step behind. He also needs to improve his play without the puck and help out in his own zone. Looks like he's here to stay but I don't think he'll be effective at this level.

Will Smith is another guy that can fly. He showed some good stickhandling skills tonight and doesn't mind going in the dirty areas. He plays in all three zones which is a good indicator. I think he'll do well after he adjusts.

Stephen Johnson didn't see much ice time tonight. Thought he played a sound two-way game. Good skater and very smart. I think he'll be used in a shutdown role this season but wouldn't be surprised to see him put up 25 points.

Reid Halabi was okay. He did very well in his fight against Malik Johnson dropping him to the ice. He's an agitator that can grind and chip in offensively. He had okay hands and a decent set of wheels. Tonight's game alone didn't warrant him a spot. Have to get a better look Friday.

Tanner McCabe came as advertised. A nasty stay at home defenseman. Again tonight he showed to be a very capable fighter. I'd give him a decision in a very spirited fight against Beaton. He takes the body and clears the front of the net. He moved the puck okay tonight and played an overall simple game. Needs to work on footspeed but he's taken strides in that department since last season. Exciting player that will likely be rotated in and out of the lineup but glad to have him aboard.

Mark Simpson has impressive once again in the faceoff circle. That's definitely one of his fortes. He has the size but doesn't use it enough. Good hockey sense and decent hands. Likes to shoot the puck and will score some goals. He's a little hard to place, could be our #2 center or have a limited role.

Josh Pugsley is a good little player. Fast , smart and hard working. He'll need to bulk up a bit as he gets pushed around a lot. Although he picked up the game's first goal tonight on a good shot , he's a great passer and is definitely pegged as a playmaker. Future is bright.

Kyle Haas will be very handy to have this year with a young and small team. He's already established himself as one of the league's top fighters. I was a little worried about his health issues over the summer but not anymore. He seems to be a lot faster too which will help an increased role this season. Had a clear win over Howe and dropped him with a solid right. He'll probably be the guy to beat this season.

Chris Caissy had a great game. He's not the flashiest guy but plays a very solid two-way game. He's sounds defensively and chipped in with three helpers tonight. He's a good skater and a very hard worker. I wasn't a fan when Flynn signed him but he's proving to deserved a spot. Also looks like a leader on the bench. He'll be a top 6 guy they can play in all situations.

Lucas Batt looked okay. He's very solid on his skates and can be an effective role player. Needs to work on foot speed. He'll have a spot though even if it's a bottom6 grinder.

Tucker White has great size. He's another guy that's strong on his skates and likes to take the body. He plays a stay at home style. Clears the front of the net well and plays with an edge. Needs to work on skating and adjust to the speed of major junior.

Mathieu Olivier wasn't very noticeable tonight. Plays a strong two-way game and is usually the first forward back to help out the defence. He looks hard to defend against and cycles the puck well. Likes to drive to the net and is smart with and without the puck. Happily surprised with this kid , he reminds me of Olivier Dubuc.

PEI Players:

Anthony Cortese had a solid game. Moved the puck well and was sound positionally. He was used in all situations and one of the better defenders.

Travis Howe must hate playing Moncton. He's been a punching bag at the fourplex going 0-3 in lopsided losses. Haas dropped him with a right that bulked his knees. Looks identical to his brother except for being able to defend himself. Same awkward , stiff skating almost like a robot. Have to give him credit though for his willingness to fight. He has a lot of hart which are the reasons Gordie is keeping him around. Maybe he'll teach him to duck.

Bradley Kennedy played a good game. Solid game in all three zones , good skater , decent hands and hockey sense. Looked timid at times and could bulk up but overall think he'll be a good player.

Julien Leduc was solid as well. Nothing fancy but got the job done. Battled hard in the corners , cleared the puck and jumped into the rush a couple times. Good bargain for PEI.

Kameron Kielly had a great game. Very fast and strong on the puck. Lots of chances and good chemistry with Pepin. He came at a steep price but will be well worth it in the long run.

Daniel Sprong's going to be a star. Amazing speed and hands. Great vision and playmaking ability. 100 point player at 18/19.

Malik Johnson wasn't as noticeable as early in camp. He's hard working and physical. Didn't fair so well in his fight against Halabi.

Guillaume Rioux Legeault didn't look good. He was caught out of position a lot and looked lost at times. Slow to react and pushed around. He was beat to the outside numerous times.

Alexandre Goulet looked good. Strong skater , stickhandling and hockey sense. He's also good in the circle. He's going to be good.

Edit: My comments toward Kennedy were actually towards Ottereyes. I followed him all game thinking it was Kennedy.

Seems like you guys have lots of young high end players this year, how many of these guys could and will be drafted this year?

And how long untill this team is back to being a contender?
