Yet another example of where Torts is generally a huge hypocrite. Demands "professionalism" and all these other ridiculous things from his players, sets arbitrary standards...but can't be bothered to suck it up and dress properly behind the bench, himself. Has all sorts of inconsistencies in what he demands of his players and the way he treats them, and the standard he holds himself to.

The epitome of it was with Vancouver where they had to put a cot in his office so he could take his naps and not have to drive hours home and back every day, because it was costing him coaching time.

Torts is a boomer for things he likes, and a trendy zoomer for things he doesn't.

This is exactly it. Torts is just a hypocrite. Whenever he sees things he doesn't like, he cries about "respect for the game" and "being old school". But if there's some tradition or practice he doesn't like, he just won't do it.

The hilarious part about Torts in Vancouver is that he refused to live in Vancouver...or Canada altogether.

This is what I thought before the hoodie thing. Can you name a head coach who likes the spotlight more than Torts?

So, what does that mean to you though?
What does "craving the spotlight mean"?

Talking to the media?
Not caring about certain norms?

How would you rather want him to be?

If people would just stop being cowards and openly admit that they don't like his face or that they don't like him because he's is or used to be the coach of a rival team, or because he said something about your favorite team that was anything but praise I'd at least have more respect for that person.

But every single time I see a Torts threat pop up I see the same baseless bullshit about him.
The guy is actually pretty down to earth and f***ing normal compared to the majority of weirdos we have in the NHL.

He may have worn out his welcome in New York but I'll never not heap praise on this absolute gem of a human being.
The work he has done for dogs and the work he has done with people who suffer from disabilities tells me everything I need to know about him.

And in a circus full of clowns, this man actually is a lion tamer and the clowns don't know how to handle it and start crying about him "seeking the spotlight".

Who cares what the coaches wear? NBA coaches have ditched the suits for years now.

Yea, so professional wearing a suit but yelling profanities at the refs all game. All of that shit is hypocritical.

Is there a dress code? If a coach wanted to go behind the bench in a stained wifebeater, boxer shorts and flip flops, could they?

So...you'd rather have a coach cut practice short and spend less time at the rink and working with his staff so he can spend a few extra hours a day traveling to and from work? If anything, having a cot in the office shows more commitment, not less.

Not crying about anything, nor did I comment on him as a human or a coach. Torts has never coached one of my team's rivals nor has he said anything negative about my team to my knowledge. I didn't say I dislike him because I don't dislike him. The way Linda Cohn talks about me has me convinced he's a good dude as a person. Just simply pointing out that he's got a reputation for being especially tough on players who do anything to the detriment to the team, yet he seems to lead the league by far in these little "look at me" moments for coaches, even before the hoodie thing. He doesn't seem like he'd tolerate a player doing the same this consistently.

Maybe he's just frugal, and at the same time doesn't like cheap Moore's suits.

Not everyone can splurge on a Giorgio Armani Privé plus a matching Patek (like Mike Sullivan flaunts in suffering fans' faces).

Yet the vast majority of the players love the guy.

Don't put too much weight on what a few bitter morons have to say.

I'd rather have a coach who doesn't prioritize driving home for a nap over...doing his job. Or living closer to (or in the same country as) his rink. :dunno:

Again, this was something pretty well documented. Where management had concerns about how much time he was spending just driving across the border for a nap every day. The cot was an attempt to address that. Personnel wanting to get in touch with him and he was just...AWOL napping in a different country. More committed to his naptime than actually coaching the team.

He holds players to a strict code of "professionalism" and "respect for the game" but routinely blows off his own responsibilities and makes an unprofessional spectacle of things, and disrespects the "old school code of the game" he likes to yammer on about.
